Another one of my generations' Icons has passed. I and my whole family were proud and enamored of not just his athletic prowess but also his courage, his efforts on behalf of equality and peace throughout the world and his dedication to his family. I believe that now unfettered by his physical body that he is dancing and shadow boxing and has bowed to the only one Greater than us all. I shall always love and miss you Mr. Ali. Have a wonderful journey as you embark on this new life. Thank goodness you can "float like a bee" because you most
certainly will continue to be as busy as one. If I am extremely blessed I'll see you when I get there.

Ali was racist against whites because they were racist against him. Let's be real. When he got rocked by two white dudes and knocked down by one of them, he got real heated and had a very hateful look on his face...., but when he got cracked by Frazier, he never came close to showing such hatred. By the way, I am not white.

He most certainly was. His skills were Supreme. He beat every great fighter from 1963 to 1978 in the hardest heavyweight division in history. Names like Patterson twice, Liston twice, joe Frazier twice, Ken Norton twice, Earnie shavers, Ron Lyle, Ernie Terrell, Jimmy Ellis, George foreman, Jerry Quarry twice, Leon spinks, just truly was a miraculous boxer. Truly the greatest of all times, and anyone who says different doesn’t know s thing about boxing. That’s how much better Ali was than other greats. 💥🥊

Yes, it says he's trying to get some t.v. time. It says he's doing this in the hope of successfully securing the black vote for his wife in the up coming election. It says, once again he's bamboozled this segment of the population. It says that he care about one famous black man, while denying the black masses. It says that Bill really didn't have anything better on his calendar that day.

Mr. Ali.. A great man.. Ali is still the best. A true champion of humanity & spirit in so many ways. I loved him as a child as I watched in wonder his skills as an athlete, his beliefs & his voice on civil rights. I was a very young then, but I will never 4get how he fought the good fight all of his life. He never gave up or gave in. I admired him deeply and I will until the day I am no more. Maybe I'll even get to meet him someday :). I know he's in the best place ever created now but he is missed by this entire planet of so many cultures and religions. We cry in the losing of him, his life here but he's joyful at his new arrival.. Mr Ali, we still hear your voice.. it will never die.

What's not great about a man; who used the huge platform he built to speak for those whose voices were lost, to speak against injustice in society, show the “powerful” that he didn’t fear them as he spoke for what he believed. When he refused the Vietnam draft, he put a lot at risk - most people would have found a way to slip out of it or would have gone - but he in essence said “what have they done to me? You’re the ones who have persecuted me and oppose me, why should I kill some poor people in the mud for big powerful America?” His big mouth was just banter in the boxing/entertainment world, you think any of his opponents take it to heart? You must be crazy. Joe Fraizer and George Foreman for example all talk about the greatness of Ali, even though he insulted them to the tee. He negotiated the release of several hostages from Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi govt whilst Bush was president for which he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom (the highest honor a civilian can receive). He mingled with everyone, especially regular people and kids. He wouldn’t rock around with bodyguards, he’d just walk into crowds of people because he wasn’t scared - he truly was the peoples champ. He would spend huge chunks of his time serving the underprivileged who weren’t supported by the powers. How many famous people do this kind of stuff? At the most they might mention a couple things, but are just pandering. Muhammad Ali actually dedicated his life to fighting injustice by not being afraid to put himself in the firing line because he knew with the influence he had, it was his duty. To not call him one of the greatest human beings of the 20/21st century is an injustice to the man. I can’t think of many people at all who used their influence to create positive changes like he did. He WAS great.

I know its useless to think such a speech in tribute to an incredibly animated, richly principled man like Muhammad Ali would be appreciated by everyone, but reading the vitriolic comments directed at Bill Clinton himself is just sick. The layers and intensity of hatred people have for their Presidents past and present has gotten so bad in America, they ended up choosing a man (Trump) most world leaders are coming to realise is as uneducated and ill informed as a sizeable portion of the American population that elected him.
In any event, Clintons' speech was a touching tribute to a great man, a true warrior of the heart and a moral compass for all mankind.

Whether he was Cassius Clay or Muhammad Ali this man would still have had such an impact over his people and afar,it was when he was in his 40s he distanced himself from that side of the nation of islam under Elijah Muhammed's successor so there is no way his character was formed by them in anyway as im sure he would still have stood up for what his beliefs were and once he became HW champ would've acted accordingly as the prejudices he witnessed as a child and young man had such an effect on him shaping that strength and defiance within him against ignorant racism. There is a reason why no past or present members of the movement he was involved in werent invited he had such love in him and grew to realise that the seperation Elijah preached was not for him anymore if only the majority of folks could be like this then racism would be moving to be a shameful thing of the past, well lets hope oneday soon. RIP Muhammad ALI.The Greatest of all.

Yes i do agree with you that Elijah educated and cleaned up many men and women thats true but i do believe with Ali he wouldve still became a huge figure in the civil rights movement even if he never met Elijah, okay he may not of had an education that wouldve enabled him to qualify automatically for harvard but he was a very smart and articulate man who would learn and educate himself 'so to speak' from whomever he was involved with,so i mean he couldve learned from any number of the great ppl of that time i envisage him always being up there whatever group he was part of you cant keep a smart/intelligence seeking man down

If the Ali family did not want him there he would not have been there. Are you Ali's brother? Who gives you the right to decide who should be or shouldn't be at his funeral you jackass.

I really liked this, but I don't much like the comments about politics, religion, motives. I won't judge. But if you want to know more about what Ali meant to people and why Clinton had the respect he did for him, look at Billy Crystal's speech at his funeral and then search youtube for his 15 rounds segment. A black Muslim and a young white Jewish man became lifelong brothers.

Why is this man here? He could care less about Ali or black people in general. But, of course, he never misses an opportunity to promote his own or his scrag of wife's agenda. Disgusting isn't the word.

Get your facts right. Do a little reading to get educated. ALI PLANNED HIS OWN FUNERAL. HE WANTED CLINTON TO SPEAK. As much as you dont like the idea - they must have been friends.

allymayful No they weren't 'friends'. Try to find a picture of them together. I'd be very interested to see one. As Clinton even said, Ali wanted a President to speak at his funeral. Who else could he get? Bush? Carter would have been a much better choice. Look at Clinton's record. He was nothing but a disgusting and slavish supporter of Israel which Ali certainly wasn't . Somehow, some way, Ali was bamboozled into accepting this man as a speaker. I find it hard to believe this was HIS choice.
