It’s actually better to be an undrafted rookie free agent than Mr. irrelevant because you might have multiple options for mini camps and can choose a team that fits you best
also because there are hundreds of times more udfas than mr irrelevants so the chance of having at least one good player out of a udfa class is virtually guaranteed
Mike Green by Bears missed the cut by being 2000 mr. Irrelevant. Also in 90s there would've been better ones. Succop would still be no. 1, but after that.
So far watching this video I find most of these men dropped out of the league but what I admire is that some are still involved in football as a coach or player. I like how they don't lose their love when they don't make it.
Boy you called it! Purdy is looking incredible right now. The game tonight in Seattle was great. Kid balled out even though he had a rib injury. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he leads the 9ers to the Superbowl and wins the whole thing! Kid is a Cinderella story unfolding before our eyes.
Idk how Crowder fell to the final pick. If Devin White has taught us something it’s that former RB’s turned LB’s are Incredibles athletic and transition so well into the nfl. Almost 60 tackles in 6 starts and had a key fumble recovery for a td.
If any of you want some background on who the heck the old man reading the pick is- basically the Mr. Irrelevant thing was created by Paul Salata, a former wide receiver who played in the 50s , in 1976. Each Mr. Irrelevant spends a week in Newport Beach, California during the summer after the draft, where they do events such as awarding them the Lowsman Trophy, mimicking the Heisman but with a player fumbling the football, along with other things like going to Disneyland and a golf tournament. Tradition was then for Salata himself to read the pick every draft, however starting in 2014, his daughter began doing it instead (I think him mixing up the names Cunningham and Hamilton says a lot about why lol). The NFL even had to make a rule where teams couldn’t trade down in order to get to pick Mr. Irrelevant for publicity.
Anybody remember Don Nottingham? He was called "the human bowling ball." He actually played a lot. He started out with Don Shula and the Colts and then followed Shula to Miami. He even played on the Dolphins Superbowl team and actually started a few games the next year. I thought he was the last player chosen when he was drafted and perhaps the best of the lasts since TV seem to portray him that way in those days, but I rechecked an he was NEXT to the last player chosen. My bad. He was chosen in the 1977 draft in Round 17 # 441.
It's the CEO of a company called "Irrelevant Week" which is basically an organization that throws a massive party for the Mr. Irrelevant of every year. They do it cuz there's not much of a chance that a Mr. Irrelevant is gonna live the NFL dream, so this is their one big hurrah.
Yeah, but were any of them a QB who won their first career start-against Tom Brady? Yeah, didn't think so. Unless someone else comes along, this now belongs to Brock Purdy.
Not so much karma as it is just sadly the business. He got injured and they had to work with Cairo Santos on the fly before we started up with Harrison Butker. Trust me, I can't name a Chiefs fan that didn't love Succop when he kicked for us!
The story around Kelly is so sad because he was really good in Denver and outplayed Paxton who was the first rounder. He played good in the preseason and looked good to go as a safe backup. But after a party at that time he walked in a strangers house and was clearly on drugs. So cut out of denver and then fai,ed in Indy. Sad how this night destroyed his future
Tim Toone was a hell of a guy. Too bad he never got a shot but he wasn't very big so that's probably why. Incredibly nice and a very talented FCS (at the time 1-AA) receiver. Also 'weber' is pronounced like 'wee-ber'.
Your Succop information is slightly off. He's the first Mr. Irrelevant to play in and win a Super Bowl. However, Marty Moore (1994) of the New England Patriots was the first Mr. I to play in a Super Bowl (XXXI), which the Pats lost. He won Super Bowl XXXVI with the Pats, but was on the IR for the game, which still makes him the 1st Mr. Irrelevant to win a Super Bowl. These are technicalities I know, but still accurate.
Funny that you only went back to 2001. One more year and you would have had the Bears Mike Brown, who had a year with over 100 tackles. Would have been interesting as to whom would have been number one him or Succop.
@@creanycrustofcarmichaelscr9272 He had 57 tackles in 6 starts bruh that’s like 160 tackles in a full 17 game season, he also just started playing Linebacker 2 years ago so he’s still learning the position and has great traits He also got robbed of several ints that the refs said weren’t picks but they were so he has great zone instincts
