Well, that was fun!! Thank you for sharing with us, Izzy. As you noted, sewing can be a lonely endeavour - I don’t have anyone in my circle of friends who sews. RUclips vloggers like you give me a sense of community. 😊
This was such a fun and relaxing video. I felt like a was sitting down with coffee and having a conversation with a new friend and that is exactly what it was. So interesting to hear your sewing journey. Funny how we start out sewing and go back to it years later, in our DNA for sure. I think the friendships you have formed through this channel are amazing. I wish there was a way for me to do the same without starting a channel. Most of the women I have met in my neighborhood and area do not sew. There is a very large quilting group and I attended a few meetings but everyone was pared up with their friends and made no effort to include the newbie. That is why I enjoy all my RUclips friends. Thank you for sharing and congratulations on your success !
Thank you so much for watching Kathleen. I used to belong to the Montreal Modern Quilt Guild and I loved it. But it was a small group (I joined very early on) and the members were so sweet. I did learn a lot from them. But I did hear about how difficult it can be to join a well-established quilt group. I feel as though there aren't very many garment sewing groups in North America and fewer opportunities to get together with other sewists which is sad.
What a great video! It was fun getting to more about you on personal level. You are so right that sewing can be a lonely hobby. I am so lucky to have found great sewing friends like you on RUclips. Thank you for taking the time to film and to correspond back. Have a great weekend!
Hi Izzy. What a nice and fun video. I enjoyed hearing your answers, congratulations on reaching another year. We certainly do have a great sewing community. 😊
Izzy, thank you for sharing. I am inspired when watching your videos to get my sewing journey on track. I love to sew (clothing, bags, etc) and knit. I have found that I am slack on the finishing of my clothing though so I will try your method of creating a list so that I can get moving on the physical sewing rather than the dreaming. Take care.
Thank you for watching! The planning part if how I dream. But once the list is done, I get sewing. I hear ya though - there's so much I want to do and not a whole lot of time in which to sew!
I woke up early and saw your video, so I quickly did my chores and made a cuppa to sit and visit with you. This was so much fun 💗 and happy anniversary 🎉
Izzy, for a bodice block the Palmer/Pletch book on fitting recommends the Butterick 6849 pattern. It has a fitted bodice and skirt and walks you through fitting adjustments to get a close body map/block. I’ve just completed my bodice block and enjoyed the process of learning what I needed to adjust and how to do it. Hope this helps your viewer who asked the question
Thank you so much for that! Also, Cashmerette just just came out with a dress sloper pattern for club members which I'm definitely going to have a look at.
I didn't ask you a question because I thought someone else would come up with the same one but they didn't! How did you decide your channel name, are you referred to as Dizzy Izzy?! 😂. Loved this video so much ❤ xx
LOL I really was surprised no one had asked me that! I came up with the name many years ago when I had a blog on quilting. In French, my blog name would have been Les courtepointes d'Izzy so I thought it would be fun to just go with Dizzy Quilts. Also, the Microsoft auto-correct keeps correcting Izzy to dizzy which I find hilarious! I'm so glad you enjoyed this! xx
@@dizzyquiltsandsews of course !! That's so clever. I just thought it could be your family nickname but I didn't ever imagine you as a 'dizzy' person, you are far more structured and organised to be one 🤣🤣. Thanks for answering that ❤️ xx
Your Concord tee just looks great Izzy! I need to find my pattern and try again. It was one of my first makes and I struggled with the v neck which is my favorite neckline. I will probably like a fairly deep scoop neckline too and maybe my skills are good enough to do the V neckline successfully. I finished a Carlyle top and that was pretty hard for me but came out great and fits. Just love the dress you made for Marianne. I wouldn't attempt it at this stage but yours looks very professional and will look gorgeous on her. I have been trying to set myself up with mindless chain piece quilting to relax more after a stressful workday. I save the garments for weekend days earlier so that I can concentrate. xx Karen
Hi Karen! I haven’t tried the V neck on the Concord yet. I really should though because I absolutely love a v neck on me. I’ve been wanting to try the Carlyle neckline on the Concord too which should be an interesting one. The dress for Marianne is beyond beautiful on her. It just fits her perfectly. I can’t wait to share the whole making of it with you all. That video is coming very soon! I think if the Think Pink brings you joy every month - keep it! I find it’s a nice challenge for me to try and make something I will love with fabric that might not be my style or my taste. There are plenty other things you can plan. Xx 💞
@@dizzyquiltsandsews I look forward to seeing more of your Cashmerette club makes. I do receive different fabric than I would pick from Andrea’s box. I’m hoping for some more knits. 🤗
Oh cool! Thank you for that. Cashmerette did just come out with a sloper pattern for Club members and I'm definitely going to give that a try, but I'll check out Sure-Fit Designs too.
Thanks for sharing this Izzy, so many questions I've had were answered. Have you ever looked at Alexandra Morgan's Inhouse Patterns Studio website? She's based in British Columbia, has online courses on drafting woven and knit bodice blocks, among lots of other things. I have done most of her courses and have just started her latest one on the fundamentals of fitting pants. I'm a bit of a Alexandra Morgan fangirl! The Cashmerette dress block would be fun, but I'm the opposite of curvy and have found some other pattern companies work better for me. In my area in Australia it seems easier to find quilting groups rather than garment makers too. A local fabric shop owner told me her quilters say they would like to make garments but fitting is just too hard.
Hi Fiona! I've never heard of Alexandra Morgan but I'm going to check her out because Marianne (who I sew for a lot) isn't curvy at all and I can't use the Cashmerette patterns for her. Would be fun to come up with a block for her as well. It's so unfortunate that people don't sew garments because they're afraid of fitting. Fitting pants is definitely more of a challenge, but fitting tops, skirts and dresses isn't super complicated when you think about it.
Mérci, Izzy! You're the only French Canadian I've ever "met" outside of the fiction I've read! Thanks for answering all those questions. I believe I'm going to make up the new Cashmerette Club dress sloper pattern from a sheet. There's just slight ease (.5 in.) in bust and hips and extra through hips and arms for potential wearability. I've already watched Jenny's "hacking" video, which is mostly about the neckline mod's and adding fullness to a skirt. At the very least, I'll end up with a torso I can stuff to make a fitting model! - Kelly
You're welcome! That's such a good idea - to turn the sloper into a dress form. I really want to try to use the sloper to add some of my favourite details and make lots and lots of tops that will fit me perfectly.
Will add to your list of "I must visit these shops". Many, many shops of various fabrics on Rue St. Hubert in East end Montreal. You need to block out a considerable amount of time to check them out. Also, you will need a wheelie cart to carry all your purchases! It is best to have a shopping "buddy" because it can become a day out and so addictive but in a GOOD way. I sent you an email. Cheers. Joan
Hello Izzy, thank you so much for this very lovely video. I truly enjoyed it. It feels like I know you on a more personnel level now :-) I just recently discovered you and I love your vlogs. Having met Marianne, I would not pick hockey as her sport as she is so sweet. No penalty box for her. Ok that is the total of all my hockey knowledge. 😂
LOL She definitely did not love hockey. But she did start figure skating the following year and stuck with that for a few years. She was really good too!
This was a lot of fun. After hearing this, I am wondering how many of your subscribers are from the Montreal area? I grew up in Montreal, and currently live in St Lazare, just off the island. I will look to see if others answer this as well :) And although I do not watch hockey, my sister married a player (not to be named here) that was quite infamous in his day, so I have been living on the edge of the hockey world vicariously through her .
