    Izzy, so glad you decided to use this fabric and pattern. Sometimes we’re used to a certain style or colour way and when it’s not what we normally wear, we think it’s a fail. Just making that simple tuck and wearing the slacks made all the difference. You absolutely knocked this one out of the park - this is a beautiful top.❤

    when you first pulled that fabric out of the box I thought....no. When you held it up to your face I thought that is really pretty. I think that top is beautiful on you. The carmel matches your hair. The way you tucked it in is how I wear most of my tops. I don't tuck, I just cut them to that length. Our measurements are close to the same, I'm a bit bigger except in hips. I do think that is a very pretty top.

    Hi Izzie, thank you for your review of the Itch to Stitch pattern - you have encouraged me to try out the Seychelles pattern. I was a bit unsure about the fabric at first - however the blouse looks so elegant on you. The larger print looks fabulous and adds to the elegant look. I think the colour of the blouse brings out the gold toning in your hair. The blouse looks best with the half tuck which is not surprising as you look so lovely in a jumpsuit. Happy sewing.🌸

    Izzy, you really suit the colourway of the fabric. I think maybe it's the time of year that's making you unsure about it, to me it would be a lovely top to wear in the spring/summer time. I think the black trousers are too strong for it, wearing it with a pair of light brown/caramel colour linen pants would look stunning !! Great vlog as always, thank you. ❤

  • @socarole66
    @socarole66 4 дня назад +2

    Hi Izzy. Like you I am a Winter so when you held that fabric up I did get a little nervous for you but you did the best thing by choosing a pattern where the fabric is a little way from your face. I really like it on you and I'm being honest as I really didn't think I would 😂. I think it's the 'caramel' swirls that pick up the colours in your hair. Tucked in looks so good if you aren't happy about the length but I'm almost wondering if you did square it off and shorter what that would look like?
    I have a similar New Look pattern with that neckline and that also can be blousy and oversized so maybe the pleats do add the extra volume. I alway end up making shoe string ties and just tying them to the back loosely to create a 'waist'.
    Fab job, perfect pattern and send me that Tea Bag 😂❤. Xx

    • @dizzyquiltsandsews
      @dizzyquiltsandsews  3 дня назад +1

      Thank you - I was so surprised that it didn’t look hidious on me 😂 I think you might be right. The caramel saved it for me. When I make this again, I’m going to shorten it by at least 2 or 3 inches and go down a bust cup to a D. I think that might remove some of the extra volume everywhere. Also, the tea bag is gone… 😂 xx 💞

  • @RhondaLorch
    @RhondaLorch 4 дня назад

    Hi Izzy. The top is adorable (note to self-add Nittany to never ending list to make lol!) My first thought wen I saw it on you was - grab a scrap and wrap it around you and see how it looks). That would serve to shorten and create the shape you desire. As for the colour, there’s enough winter white to be suitable and beside - wear what you want. A little highlight on your cheeks and under your eyes will more than compensate if the colour is a wee bit off. Thanks for sharing!!💕🇨🇦

    When you first pull the fabric out I thought oh my it’s gorgeous, and brings out the gold tones in your hair. I like the style and the front tuck makes all the difference. I would change out your jewelry to gold when you wear it. In your normal filming light you appear more of an Autumn, but when you changed lighting I could see more pink undertones.

      @dizzyquiltsandsews  3 дня назад

      Thank you for the tip on the jewelry, I'll give it a go! Most of my jewelry is silver or white gold, but I think I have a couple of yellow gold pieces. I wonder if there’s such a thing as a hybrid colouring 😂

    @leannsews 4 дня назад +2

    I think it looks really nice. I think a necklace with a coloured drop might make a difference for you. The silver seems to make it lighter. It was interesting for me to see because I shy away from pleats at the neck in case they accentuate the bust, but you're not finding that. It's definitely a good look on you (tucked, 👍)

    • @dizzyquiltsandsews
      @dizzyquiltsandsews  3 дня назад +1

      Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it! The pleats do accentuate the bust, but I don’t mind that. 😊 My focus is more on minimizing the tummy which can easily be achieved by making everything else the focus.

  • @kaydallas2569
    @kaydallas2569 3 дня назад

    Looks great! I think a shirt tail hem is more flattering on larger shapes because there is no strong visual horizontal line across your hips. The curve carries your eyes across the whole top and the person wearing it!

  • @letitiathomson914
    @letitiathomson914 3 дня назад

    Hi Izzy, I love your top. Ive made it three times all in viscose. The first one I cut a little too short so added a frill around the hem. The others I’ve lengthened the sleeves to three quarter length, one with a frill at the cuffs. Whenever I wear them I get compliments. I might just make it again. Happy sewing 🧵🪡🇦🇺

  • @nancyhilborn885
    @nancyhilborn885 4 дня назад +1

    Very pretty! You could add shaping through the side seams and shorten it a bit at the hem so that you feel confident in it whether tucked or not. I don't have that pattern but I have another with pleats at the neck. I am inspired to make it up after seeing this on you.

    • @dizzyquiltsandsews
      @dizzyquiltsandsews  3 дня назад +1

      Thank you so much Nancy. I will definitely shorten it for next time and I might also add some shaping at the waist or simply size down to a D cup. I think that might reduce the amount of volume at the bust and the waist (I’m pretty sure a FBA adds width and length).

      You’re very welcome! I learned the hard way about staystitching. It’s so discouraging and frustrating when your facing or sleeves don’t fit because the armhole or neckline got stretched out during the construction process.

    The top is really nice and looks good on you. You said they were not your colors, but I disagree, they bring out the highlights in yur hair and look great with your lip color. As far as pleats, yes they add volume to a garment and yes you have a little to much fabric on the top, otherwise I think it is wonderful and I will be purchasing this pattern also. It would look wonderful on you in the bold color palate that you just made your dress out of. Take care and stay warm - today in Mankato, MN we are going to get to 43 degrees = heat wave - but still no snow. 😆❤

  • @granjan252

    I have had my eye on this pattern for a long time, but the thing that has held me back from actually purchasing and making it is the pleats at the neck. I am large breasted, and based on a few other tops I have tried that get their shaping from the neck, this style tends to accentuate my bust. For me, I think regular or French darts are what work best for me. You did a great job on your Nittany top, and I think it will serve you well as a work top.

I get the big box because I'm tall and have a similar dress size to you, so it gives me more options. That made me laugh when you said your parcel took a trip around the province, or was it country? Mine did that in October. It was coming in record time, about 3 days, and I was so excited. But then it went on a tour. The tracker even showed where all it went. Lol.

    I do like the fabric and I was happy to get your review of the top. When I've tried on RTW tops with pleats at the top they've always seemed to emphasise my bust so it's not a pattern I would buy. I'm also really interested in your fitting comments. I've made the Itch to Stitch Melrose top a couple of times now in a 16 with a double D bust. There's something funny happening above my bustline, not in the middle but towards my armpits and I think I can see similar in yours. I'm disappointed because initially I thought it was the fabric I used in my first test garment but the lovely softer fabric next time round was the same. Also the bust dart is a bit low on me which never happens. I want to like the top, but.....

      I think my top is a little bit too big for me. I should have gone with a D cup instead of the DD which I will do next time. I think this would minimize the extra volume near the sides at the bust. Also, pleats do emphasize the bust so if that’s not part of your body shape goals, then definitely don’t get this pattern. I don’t mind emphasis on my bust because that minimizes the middle. 😂

      @dizzyquiltsandsews Thank Izzy. I think I will try the D size next time too. I sort of like Nancy Zeiman's method which I know you've demonstrated so it might be interesting to take the Melrose standard size, do an FBA using that and then compare. Just need the time. 🙏🏻

    … I am going to be very honest with you Izzy , I did get my colours done and I am a deep Autumn .. and it’s changed how I sew , what I sew .. it has made buying fabric sooo easy but the most important thing I’ve found is I cannot unsee what I see when I do wear my colours .. it can be so subtle but I see it … you do get washed out with this colour combo , that fabric print is beautiful but it doesn’t give you that wow factor like for example your Nepheline blouse does , even though it still not your best winter , but that deep blue you were wearing or even that prototype scratchy fabric you didn’t like , those tops look amazing on you even if the fit was off or whatever just because the colour was right … I want to challenge you , to make this exact top again but in your winter colour just for fun to see how much of a difference you feel ? I am curious … this top pattern has great details I really like it … 💙💙💙hugs xoxoxo Monica

      Thanks so much Monica! It's definitely tempting to see how it would look in a deep, winter colour. I have a beautiful emerald green rayon that would make a beautiful Nittany.

    I think it looks really pretty next to your skin/face. I think it brightens your face. I should say, your face looks really pretty next to that print.

    If you would wear/like the top more, couldn't you shorten it now? The fabric looks lovely. K

    Love the pattern, love the fabric but on someone else not me. Definitely not a flattering color for me. I was interested that you pre wash your fabrics. I don’t prewash my fabrics because I feel the sizing helps keep pattern pieces in shape before & during sewing. Thanks for sharing!

      I’ve always pre-washed my dressmaking fabrics (I don’t pre-wash my quilting fabrics). The fabrics I love to use for making garments typically shrink a lot when washed and dried and I cannot guarantee that they’ll never end up in a dryer (I don’t live by myself) so I always put them through a hot wash and dry just in case. I would be devasted if one of my garments shrunk in the wash AFTER I make them. That has never happened to you?
