How those Knight Guards put up with all those tourists is beyond me. Their patience is to be commended. And when they got upset that their horses are being manhandled like they are on a regular basis shame on those tourists. Those horses say when they dont want to be touched, its obvious.
This horse is great, he knows how to move people on he is hot and cranky and is not fond of tourists at all I love him when he bites, it is amazing to me how they don't feel how cross and hot he is he had already pushed them away, and he had beautifully lined up his bite area. I think this is Arnie

The sign says the horses “may” kick or bite and, given the necessary permission, some obviously think it would be rude not to. Taking a nibble out of some tourists who think that sign is there just to decorate the wall is one way to pass the time. I always amazes me how many parents shove their kids nearest to the horses mouth for that spectacular holiday snap while they stay further away. Or the ones who let their very squishy kids get within stomping distance of those iron shod hooves attached to a huge, very heavy horse. I also think some of the guards use their helmet’s chin strap to cover their mouths to hide a sneaky grin at what their horse can get away with which they can’t. Although I feel that their unsheathed swords could, at times, be put to a more practical use than just resting on their shoulder. They’re given electrolytes in some food, every time they go back to the stable. There’s a video on Ytube of how the horses get that meal and are also cooled down and sweat washed off, every time they go off the hour’s duty outside. In the video you can also see them ‘ bobbing for apples’ ie getting apples from a water trough. Dipping their heads in water a bit, also cools them down.
I REALLY wish people would stop jumping to conclusions about the care of these horses. The Guards take VERY good care of their mounts. They have their own veterinary corps, they are fed the best food, each with a diet catering to its needs. They are exercised EVERY day, and they have several troopers at their beck and call, to groom, muck out and fetch and carry for them.
They are not deprived of water , they are on duty in the box for 1 hour then changed over . In stables they will have had water and food before and on return to stables a cool rub down water and electrolyte feed .
