He does the exact same thing xD. in the other option Shepard just moves away and Kai Leng stabs the holographic keyboard with his katana. Shepard then stabs him with his omnitool in any way.
Kai Leng never came across as the badass antithesis to Shepard that they were trying to portray. He always hid behind a gunship whenever his shields went down.
Imo, I feel that might have been intentional, cause kai isn't the "last man standing against the odds" kind of character that shepard was, he was just another cerberus thug, doing their dirty work from the shadows, and always had a way out in case things didn't go his way.

I think it is intended to be a karmic act. Adept or Vanguard Shepards can do their usual schtick, but after what happened to the Citadel coup and most especially at Thessia, they can't help but to feel pissed at Leng. As what Zaeed said, rage is hell of an anesthetic.
Even as a Full Paragon I always do this because, once I reach this part of the story, I am so Paragon that I could ask the Reapers politely to go back to Dark Space.

I swear it’s deliberately so to bait Leng in; Shepard really wanted to deal a satisfying killing blow...his eyes when the renegade symbol appears is like a Shark’s eyes rolling back.
While most people absolutely crush this interrupt regardless of their morality, I've always tended to let it pass. The reason? My Shepard is a soldier. No biotics, no tech, just a man with his wits, his strength, and his rifle. He clawed his way through the dregs as an orphan on Earth, clawed his way out of hell on Akuze, and pretty much hasn't caught a break since the start of the first game. Kai Leng, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. He's loaded with tech, a powerful biotic, and given tons of specific training to make him a lethal assassin from day one. And in this, his final chance to defeat Commander Shepard, the unthinkable happens: Shepard, the "dumb grunt" who has survived this long on a wing and a prayer, smells the failure leaking off him and just dips him like a tater chip. I get its awesome to break his sword with your fist, but I just love the image of a literal space ninja getting beaten at his own game by a ground-pounder.

Honestly that sounds way more badass than taking the interrupt
Renegade for life
I have always and will always hit that renegade interrupt with the collected wrath of an entire fandom behind me but I do appreciate that no matter what happens Kia Leng gets an omniblade to the gut (had to watch a RUclips vid to see what happens)
No matter how Paragon you are... This is obligatory.
The funny thing about this to me is that I screamed that right before shepherd said it when I played. I was like oh man gotta stop playing so much mass effect.
It's been a long time since I last played it but what happens if you don't take the Renegade interrupt?
Shepard evades the blade without breaking it, and kills Kai Leng all the same.
Never understood how breaking a sword that was aimed at your back would be considered a renegade option.
The ME2 Loading screens sometimes said renegade options were meant to be badass while Paragon is smooth talking
It's just that alot of the time Bioware confused Badassness for Asshole
@@217adaptiveperspective well, Renegade can Also be asshole
In ME 1 you can wipe out a human colony even if they give you a device to avoid that
Hands. Down. Best action sequence in all of ME. They need to do more like this im surprised they haven’t.
This option is not a paragon or renegade. This option is prove your friendship. Thane was my second favorite character after grunt. F this ahole for taking thane away.. if thane wasn’t ill, he would have smacked this fool with one hand behind..
Never wanna know or ever found out what would happen if I didn’t hit that renegade option. Water is wet, and also, we slam on that renegade option! Shepard should have shipped Kai’s head and broken sword to Illusive Man. Just a little F U🤣
Nothing. Shepard just leans out of the way of the sword and stabs him anyway. After all, you can fight like a Krogan, run like a leopard - but you'll never be better than Commander Shepard.
