    what a great in depth video. I've found with my C200 that in RAW the noise is huge. Even at 800 iso and ABB after every time I white balance and change iso etc. It's been a bit of a challenge for sure. Perhaps the c300 is the answer to that. I don't know.

And compare it aswell with the C500 mii. It would be great aswell to see it in action with an Atlas Orion. Another cool idea for a next vid: it would be great a comparassion with a Red Camera on the dynamic range aspect and overall cinematic feeling (cause I think Canon right now has improved a lot). A quite note, with RED, R3D Code Raw, you can change the compression, 6:1, 8:1, 10:1, etc, but not the data rate, as it is variable.

    Great review. The c300 Mark 3 seems like it's a nice middle ground but it's such a weird market? It competes with the FX9 in a way but after you get it rigged up, you're looking at almost 15K-20K.

    • @TallstoryfilmsAus
      @TallstoryfilmsAus  4 года назад

      Daymian Mejia Yeah the costs can add up a bit more with the canon cams. However they do have a few more higher end features than the FX9 which feels a bit more firmly aimed at a TV market. The internal raw and PL options for the C300III mean it could very easily be a feature doco camera or used in commercials in the same space as the Alexa, where the FX9 probably isn’t going to cut it

    Looks like they added support of XF-AVC Long GOP and XF-AVC Proxy format to the C500MKii. Now time to figure out if FF is that important or if we'd rather have a better picture which might be negligible to the untrained eye. I feel that most will go for the C300MKiii because its not a huge change in workflow to those already working with super 35. Did going back to a smaller sensor make you feel any at all limited?

    • @TallstoryfilmsAus
      @TallstoryfilmsAus  4 года назад +1

      I've had a lot of time using the C200 and C300MKII so it was pretty straightforward going back to Super 35. Full frame is amazing, but the features they've put in to the C300MKIII are useful enough to make it a proper contest between the two cameras. I actually think deciding on what lenses you want to be using/can afford is probably a good way to help make the decision.

I've been working my C300 MKII ridiculously hard for the past 5 years and while it'll still keep producing client content, I'm torn between the C500 Mark II and C300 Mark III for an upcoming short film. After your video review and seeing the footage you were able to get I'm pretty certain I'm going with the C300 Mark III. Although I love the full-frame look of the C500II and the possibility of native anamorphic, I think the C300 Mark III is going to be more flexible for the day to day bread and butter shoots. In your video you mentioned the C300III having anamorphic desqueeze as well, have you had a chance to play with that at all? Best, Dare

      Thanks for the comment and the email Dare, will respond properly via email but generally Id say it really is down to personal preference. The cameras perform really similarly so the question is mostly do you need 120fps 4K/180 fps HD and have Super 35 lenses? Or do you want Full Frame and the option of 5.9k. Its not an easy choice but reckon you'll be happy whichever way you go

    Great video! Is it true you can't use the viewfinder at the same time as the monitor? Also don't you wish they would switch the audio level controls and the media slots around? Seems redundant having easy access to memory cards vs levels.

    • @TallstoryfilmsAus
      @TallstoryfilmsAus  4 года назад

      Monitor and viewfinder work simultaneously, no problems there. At first I was really annoyed that the C500MKII's audio controls were on that side, but then I got used to it. When Im shooting handheld theyre actually in a better spot for me around that side because I dont have to move the camera away from my body to adjust, and if it's a sit-down interview it doesnt matter too much. Less than ideal but not the end of the world.

    Which one to consider for Feature film, I don't need more than 60fps as it's drama. I would love the presence of full frame, my two questions would be considering the noise floor and lowlight performance
    Suppose C500 MK2 with full frame would have better lowlight but that's where we have noise in shadows, right (according to many users) would this be fixed in firmware by Canon?

    • @TallstoryfilmsAus
      @TallstoryfilmsAus  4 года назад +1

      Ragunaath Rathnam Id say anything in that department is unlikely to be changed in a firmware update. With 6K full frame the C500 is probably marketed more towards the feature film side as a competitor to the Alexa, but the C300 could definitely handle whatever you could throw at it.

Could be a handy thing to have, but then again I've really hated using speed boosters in the past as have had some issues with them bugging out. Also it's not ideal to be shooting through another layer of glass if you can avoid it.

    • @TallstoryfilmsAus
      @TallstoryfilmsAus  4 года назад +1

      George Guille Photography No worries. At the higher frame rates the bitrate does drop down so you don’t chew through card space when shooting 120. But lower bitrate can also mean a drop in quality so just got to be ready for that. However we found the quality of the footage to be really good even at high frame rates even with the lower bitrate. Not sure about the line skipping.
