No, I believe they played in a grand hotel room where Morphy was bedridden and the moves were relayed on boards outside for people to follow. I forget the name of the hotel though. That's what I read a long time back. But you'll have to check the details though,and correct me if I'm wrong.

Basically it's positions that haven't been repeated by Grandmasters. They may have been repeated in lower tier chess games online.
