"Lets see if it wants to play a second game."
Imagine the computer just refusing to play after crushing you 😅
In both games , especially the second game , Hikaru's king was the most active piece . "the immortal King walk"
That’s the Nigel short king
😂😂😂😂😂
Gothamchess made immortal king walk tho
Those sacks to get a draw position was actually very clever and impressive to see, esp vs Torch...
Torch, the only "1600" hikaru tries to draw with white
It havent played ranked games and is registered as master?
@Earl3710With the opening they had to play, yes. Remember they would have to play pair games with the same opening to see who is better.
@Earl3710Stockfish is still the best chess engine in the world
Yes.
Update: Torch is not even a clear #2 and still struggles against Leela rn.
@Earl3710torch and stockfish and Leela all beat each other in games, they use highly imbalanced openings where white is at least+1
Hikaru’s understanding of chess is just alien
We need a longer DAYYYYYY
wdym?
todaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy
😂😂😂
Dayyyyyyyyyy here longer day
NO
Would have loved to see the engine evaluation in that final position
Stockfish evaluates it as losing for white (-2.7) at high depth. Pretty crazy hikaru can defend this well. Most of the time he wasn't even playing the top 3 suggested moves yet still managed a draw against a top level engine.
@@Will-og9gvStockfish is known for misunderstanding blockades like this though, it might’ve been drawable.
@@Will-og9gv Of course Stockfish is going to say -7 as black is up a whole rook. The question is if the position is winnable. Whats the result if two engines play the final position?
Levi showed a few games that Torch won against Stockfish, that showed signs of nasty long-term ideas of restrictive play.
@@tobyonatabe2601 Well considering stockfish is the strongest engine I don't know what else I'm supposed to look at to determine if it is drawable lol
Funny how he says "if it wants to play" as if the bot has a choice 😂
This is why he is considered as the best defender in the world
Isnt that magnus?
@@r00kiet80no even Magnus said Hikaru is a better defender
@@player6769 Taliban is the best defender. Just ask America.
@@MuhammadAbdulKareemEl-Jaffarso edgy

I like how even if we can't win against engines, Hikaru can still draw any game against one pretty comfortably. Also, this engine is definitely not 1600!
Yes, if that is his intention from the start :D I don't think he can draw against a strong bot by playing normally, and switching to a draw-strategy once things start going pear-shaped.
@@MorningNapalm Of course, of course. I agree.
Torch is probably comfortably over 3500
I think he has a friend using Torch’s moves and putting them into the account. On the website the default elo for new accounts is 1600 if you say you’re an advanced player
@@lukaswolek7294 Torch is currently ranked #3, after Stockfish and Leela.
The new format is much better, since he explains all his moves.
It is fascinating that a human can draw against a competitive engine.
What human?
I dont think torch could really compete against stockfish or leela in the TCEC, its probably just some random bot
@@Pascal-md9osit isnt
@@Pascal-md9osits either the 3rd or and strongest engine at the moment
@@armaanmehanger4154Stockfish>>>>
That's honestly crazy to draw 4 points of material down against an engine.
It's insane how Hikaru knows most of the moves Torch will make, but still has a difficult time to stop them.
- New 3k+ elo engine drops
- Hikaru always be like: yeah i can draw it in first try as white
lets see if he wants to play rematch😂😂😂😂😂 bro he doesnt have choice
Hikaru casually challenging Torch and playing on par with it.
apart from the first game lol, hes like 1000 elo below the bot.
@@lret2070in first game he played the king indian, which is ver bad at gm level and horrible at engine level
@@wooshifgay462 regardless the bot is like 3600, way better than hikaru.
@@wooshifgay462it's not bad at gm level, just dubious
@@lret2070 oh yeah, totally
Chess at high level is another realm.
There's Equal Piece on the board.
Grandmaster: im going to lose.
Fascinating, more of those please - Hikaru v Engine, any engine....
Look at the time hikaru is blitzing like a bot and bot is calculating like human
Maybe torch made the threefold because it was otherwise gonna lose on time lol
yeah why tf dint hikaru try to flag him
I watched both of these games live as they were playing. Now I get to hear his thought process.
Won't ever forget the 250+ move Rybka game that Hikaru won.
270 moves with hikaru mating it with 6 bishops
Hikaru is data mining the computer and it’s so fun to watch! He has the computers personal info after these matches lol
Really cool to see an "overmatched" forced draw attempt. Interesting to see the logic and so much earlier than it normally crops up.
Engines don't just miss that there's a 3 fold repetition. It evaluated that sacrificing or making the pawn push would put it at a disadvantage, even if it was only like -0.2. Modern computers will only avoid a draw, if the other moves don't decrease the evaluation, that's why it chose to make the draw
of course engines can miss it if they are not programmed to watch out for it
@@williardwonken9040 i doubt that a modern competitive engine like torch isn't programmed with a threefold rule
@@williardwonken9040 yeah, and today's computers are all programmed to watch out for it. This isn't the 60s
In Universal Chess Interface, engine need to be fed the game’s move history in order to detect 3fold repetition for each move. It’s likely that Torch only received Fen strings, making it impossible to detect 3fold repetitions.
@@intermitttence2022 I don't know where you got that information. I've tested engines in a GUI with UCI protocol, and the engine detects a 3 fold repetition as I make it play the moves
i was hoping hikaru would analyze the game with stockfish afterward :P
One issue with neural network engines is that they are statistically trained so accidental threefold or as all engines would do preferring draw over taking a losing position are possible. But traditional engines can guarantee avoid threefold and fifty move draws at least to some depth of movss unless no legal moves are available.
omg im in love with the thumbnail of all hikarus videos!!! legendary artwork
Now I just want a match between levy's lamp vs this torch
That bot basically plays perfect chess, so it's really impressive to be able to draw against it. Best defender in the world hands down.
Watching Hikaru play engines is the best
I enjoy the proper sociopathic change of facial emotion at 0:00 😂😂 I mean Hikaru don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan, but don't smile if you don't feel like it while greeting 😅
Its been so long since we saw a top experimental chess engine play against a human
Its amazing to see machines doing this. Awesome and terrifying
Dude the covers on these videos are sublime
WELCOME BACK EVERYONE! FOR TODAAAAAAYYS VIDEO
New Hikaru videos get me bricked up
NAHHH 💀
AYO
u keep sh!tting and rising?
Me too
Although influenced by previous chess engine designs, Torch is entirely newly written.
ive never seen any game where the king ran away like that first game XD
Hikaru is probably the most prophylactic player out there
Objectively he may not be the strongest but psychologically this style is infuriating to face even for the best players
can you play stockfish 16 with rook or knight odds and see how long you can last please?
If I know correctly komodo is currently about a knight odds better than an avarage gm, while stockifsh is slightly better than Komodo hikaru is much, MUCH better than an avarage gm so I would say that he could beat it
I would love to see that match. hikaru vs top engine with knight odds
Bro actually said "let's see if he want a rematch" 💀
hikaru, your thumbnails are insane. i don't always watch your videos but more often i enjoy the thumbnails more than the videos 😂
Thnx for playing it out till the end. Otherwise I would'nt understand why you would resign
I'm very curious about the computer evaluation. Whether stockfish says a great advantage for black or 0.0 for all
Hikaru: so he goes e5 which i'm happy to see...
Torch: haha bro, i have calculated 30 move mate
Great job for a tester to fix bugs!
It’s simple. I hear the intro, i hit the like.
Even Bots cant break the Hikarus defend
I really don't know why torch make that draw move. Maybe it can't see a complicated draw. Stockfish gives 6 points advantage for black in that position.
That doesn't necessarily mean there's a way to break through. That's essentially just the material advantage.
Stockfish evaluates such positions as better for the player with more space... it doesn't necessarily mean that it is winning when played out even by SF Vs SF
It wasn't real torch. He just made an account and naned it torch
torch was gonna lose on time, it was hikaru who blundered the draw here
Funny thing, the computer draw the game because he was afarid that hikaru will flag him.
In the first game, its just insane how hikaru sees he lost even tho its nothing concrete like losing tactic. I checked with the engine and hes up a point for long time in that line but still losing and hikaru knew it
He knows he's lost because it's a bot and he hasn't managed to lock the position. He doesn't have to analyze anything more advanced than that.
@@Hedning1390 Yeah, but he was talking about running the king to the other side, and after the bot played horse back to was it... e4 maybe? That move made him say hes not in time. And that is crazy
@@rikus6201 @rikus6201 It's not that crazy. That move added 2 pieces to the attack. Directly with the knight attacking his blocking pawn and also opened up the rook. All the moves following are forcing with little room for variation. No positioning moves.
@@Hedning1390 did u see the rook sac what happened in the game and is the reason hikaru said what he said. Yeah u didnt, and hikaru did in seconds
@@rikus6201 There's no telling what I would or would not see because I wasn't playing that game. But the attack was coming and since it is a bot you know you are lost when they attack you.
What you do - I walk my king up and forth
That thumbnail is literal fire
Torch: What am I doing?
Thanks for putting your opponents cam in the vid too
Very impressive to sac a rook to make a fortress.
Well played Hikaru!
Engine pro (Hikaru) vs Engine😍
16:03 even engine doesn't understand that position
I rate Today's "tudeeeeyz" as a 78/100 ...a 13 points drop from yesterdaaay's
Love when he plays engines. Play engines everyday and humans will seem easy
Lets walk the king all the way across the board. Yeah lets walk the king. 😅😂😂😂
This torch guy is good
10:35 S%it! He remembers even every computer game he played!
Man!! You are starting to freak me out!
Casually drawing a 3750
lol i actually got a firefighter ad in here xD
Torch offered itself a draw 😂😂
Stockfish does 3-folds, too
Ohh torch is komodo dragon? That makes total sense now
Its not?
@@wooshifgay462 it is....?
It's written from scratch.
Torch beat hikaru
Stockfish would never.
"Let's see if I can win or draw" a loss isn't even in Hikarus mind :D
Scared Cat! He must have played with an engine of greater ELO
Hikura is finding bugs in 4000 elo engines. Wow! These bastions are kind of long term tactics that humans see but not all computers. I guess Leela can see it.
Hikaru bot vs Torch would make a good content!
Torch is stronger then stock fish
Maybe Torch acknowledged that the position is drawn, and chose to draw the game. There is no comtempt factor in NNUE based engines at all, so Torch is not doing any comtempt related things.
Greatvto be back, thanks Hikaru
Is this a game versus Torch or Hans??? I can’t tell the difference…..
Hikaru is too powerful
Why Hikaru never played against the REAL 3600 Stockfish?? not the lichess one of course
Hikaru intro every vid: 😒.... 😁Welcome back everyone😁
Hikaru is assuming his king as his queen😂
Torch is actually the second best engine only behind Stockfish. Yes it’s better than Leela
You are legend sir .
in the second game, stockfish thinks its winning for black with around -3 advantage but somehow it couldn't won against me make repeating moves with the rook LOL
Sometimes I wonder if I should play one of the more powerful engines.
No. No I shouldn't.
Thank you great videos
Hey Hikaru, what would happen if you play normally, like you would against another strong GM instead of playing this way? Are you going for a draw from the start knowing there's no chance and that's the best strategy?
Strongest 1600 of all time
First game: plays normal, gets crushed.
Second game: plays like a turtle and builds a friggin wall and then says "uh yeah, good luck winning, I'm not interested in winning anyways".
Moral of the story: if you want to not lose versus an opponent more powerful than you, play truly to not lose, even if it means giving up on the notion of victory.
Hikaru you wizard!
Try SF vs Hikaru+Torch

How do I play again these engines.
I only see the personalities and the Engine that ends at 3200.
