Becht started 132 career games. Pennington finished with 17000 career passing yards. Shaun Ellis made 2 pro bowls and started over 160 games in his career. And best of all, Abraham was a 5-time pro bowler, 2-time All Pro selection, started 175 career games and is rated as the 29th-best defensive end ever by sports reference.
Great draft.
Pennington retired as the most accurate QB in NFL History and won Two Comeback Players of the Year after Injuries that normally would end a QBs career.
@@justinlast2lastharder749I was going to say Pennington seemed like he was decent when he wasn't injured
Abraham played most of his career in Atlanta didn't he?
That te didn't do shit in those 132 starts
@@noble6882 6 years in NY, 7 in ATL and 2 in ARI
The guy shouting “WHO?” When they selected John Abraham! 🤣
Well he never watched a college game in his life but he heard some sports talk radio guy making suggestions and thinks he knows something
@@SDSOne lmao 🤣 yeah, Mel kiper must not have had him rated thst high that year! 😂
John Abraham was a beast, that guy was clueless.
@@dee-taylor this is a video from the draft. How would anyone there know how the players end up. What a dumbass comment
Who?
weren't all 4 of these guys long term starters in the NFL?
Yupp
That question is answered at the end of the video, my dude.
You know the world is sad when they cant complete a shorts video before commenting
I apologize for not watching the whole video through, its only 30 seconds right? Funnily enough this video is 30 seconds longer than the amount of time they’ve played in the playoffs in the last 13 years
Yep
What's wild is those were all really good picks. Becht was taken a little high, but even he had a solid career.
John Abraham was so dominant. Atlanta is still searching for an elite pass rusher til this day.
real if we dont get one this draft im moving
As a Falcon fan, this is true and sad just to read this comment 🤦🏾♂️ hopefully they draft Dallas Turner this year.
@@nuttrbuttr5why wait?? Don't wait for it. Just move on
@@handsomehebrewI want Verse. I think he’s a better pure pass rusher
@Dixon_Cider407 Yeah, he's nice also. I'll take either one of them. I'm kind of biased towards Turner because I'm a Bama alum. But Verse would be a great pickup for the Falcons.
John Abraham was a beast in ATL. Never knew he was drafted by the jets. Great pick.
Wish we had someone like him again.
Bro he was my favorite player at the time! Hopefully Falcons dont have to switch 1st rounders because of this Cousins BS with Minnesota
He played there for like 8 seasons. Probably had the best jets career of the 4 guys
@@scottb3034 Pennington was almost their, just couldn't quite do it.
@@angrytater2456injuries man, and that weak ass arm
Been a Patriots fan since early 90s...have always said, two huge things that went our way in that division was Pennington's shoulder and Brees not going to Miami.
The Big "what if ?"
And the Bills being mediocre at best during that time.
@@Mr.SalmaHayek What if Brees goes to Miami; Nick Saban stays, possibly dethrone the Patriots a couple of times and maybe win a Lombardi or two. So then Alabama isn't the juggernaut it was for many years under Saban.
@@tygrkhat4087 The Patriots made those teams look mediocre. They weren't. The AFC was still better than most divisions.
@@SigandGibbs Truat me, the Bills didn't need the Patriots help in making them look mediocre.
John Abraham was an extremely underrated player in his era. Jets also got two All Pro years out of him then traded him to Atlanta and got Nick Mangold with the pick who was also a two time All Pro. 16 seasons combined for the Jets.
He really is. I remember living in Atlanta when he played for the Falcons and he was a consistently high rated player in that era. Durable and tough.
They were a consistent playoff team in the 2000s with those guys.
No tf they weren't 😂
@@ShawnReed-ny1hd 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006. They literally made the playoffs as many times with that core than they had in the 15 years prior that I had been watching the NFL (85, 86, 91, 98). STFU if you don’t know what you’re talking about.
@@manuginobilisbaldspot2he's been real quiet 😂 dude doesn't know shit about football he's just talking out of his ass .
@@ShawnReed-ny1hd someone doesn't know football
@@manuginobilisbaldspot2 I mean if you take the 2000s as a whole they made it 4 out of 10 times. Which is pretty average. If you just take the snapshot of 4/6 years than that is quite good.
Pennington looked like he was going to be a perennial pro bowl quarterback before blowing out his shoulder in 2003.
He had a cannon before he hurt it at Marshall. He transitioned to a really good precision passer, and that playfake was deceptive af. My favorite QB, as a Jets fan.
@@VianoMusicAcademyraiders fan here, watched some great games against those Jets. Respect
@@rldn1 those were some battles. Those Raider teams were really tough, and you guys really played well
@@VianoMusicAcademy my favorite Raiders era, take me back! Those Jets were good man even with Vinny then Chad made them even better. Vinny, Pennington, WR Coles Chrebet, Curtis Martin, on defense I remember John Abraham and Shaun Ellis. Classic games I still watch on RUclips and reminisce lol
@@VianoMusicAcademy the center too! He was great he was like Hawaiian if I remember
Jets cashed in that year, excellent picks.
People forgetting how good Shaun Ellis was
It was actually a terrible draft too. Urlacher and Brady (when he goes in) will be the only HOF players from that draft class.
Jets also took Laverneus Coles in the same draft
Chad was the best qb they've had in 25 years lol
He wasn't better than Vinny
@@christiansoldier77 I'm better than Vinny lol
@@Dagoat5.0 Vinny got the jets to the afc championship game so Pennington was not better than Vinny
Zach Wilson would like a word
@christiansoldier77 with that logic you're saying Mark Sanchez was better than Pennington? 🤔
All of them turned out pretty good👍🏾
I done won money on madden wit that 2000-2001 jets squad😅👏🏾
Abraham was great and is borderline HOF material
That iconic jets fan that said "who" with his hands in the air 😂
Fans still doing that bullshit. How the hell these idiots don't know at least the names of the top 50 players is baffling. These idiots spends thousands on tickets, goofy ass costumes and these events only to have no fuking clue about the league. Cringe
Jets DC Jeff Ulbrich was also in this draft, selected by the Niners in the 3rd round
John Abraham was a super underrated Player. Definitely the best player of the 4.
Man what a draft. I remember this core taking the jets deep into the playoffs for so many years. What a time to be alive
If a certain someone wasn’t picked at #199, you’d classify this as an absolute haul. Abraham is a possible Hall of Famer, Ellis was pretty good, Pennington was an above average starter for awhile and even Becht was decent.
Truth be told, Becht is a prime example of a "before his time" player. He was a reception Tight End back when the NFL was still a run-heavy league, & was past his prime as the change to pass-friendly was just beginning. If he came along a decade later, he probably would've been a star.
Whoever the GM was actually got it fairly right. All 4 of those guys had long careers with great stats
Parcells
They did the best they could with that class.
This was a great haul for the Jets. Ellis and Abraham were monsters on D, Pennington was elite before getting injured , and Becht was a solid starter for a few seasons in the NFL.
Abraham should be a hall of famer
I remember him with the Falcons instead of the jets
@@tjwilbourn019 The last dominant pass rusher the falcons ever had. And boy was he.
He has the same issue London Fletcher did. Just was in the NFL at the wrong time. Peppers, J Taylor, J Allen, Ware, Freeney, Strahan got all the headlines.
yet the jet idiot is all "WHO??? WHO"
@@WCUPUNK1i agree 100%....I imagine London and Abraham will both make it eventually thru the veterans committee.
John Abraham was fantastic 133 career sacks in 15 seasons almost a average of 9 per year
They were good together too
An amazing draft class by the Jets. They hit on all four picks.
4 good picks
The first draft I ever watched as an 11 year old, this is the golden age of sports.
Chad Pennington was the man. Never threw a red zone INT in New York.
All four players were awesome
I remember always looking forward to the Jets picks 😂
That’s a solid draft!!!
Four picks in the first round shouldn't be a "solid" draft, it should be a franchise changing draft.
Some of Those Jets Fans made fools of themselves lmao All solid picks honestly!
Those were solid picks. Ellis and Abraham were good!
Good class in my eyes
Better than I expected
This was actually a pretty damn good set of first rounders. Well done Jets.
Abraham went on to play for the Atlanta Falcons and they haven't had a pass rusher as great as him since. He was a beast.
Pennington is an AFC legend
Arguably the best Jets quarterback of the last 30-35 years at minimum
Though Tom Brady was on the board, and picked 181 picks later
That’s sad 😂😂😂 bro couldn’t stay healthy
@@TheJustinReid But who knew Brady would become Brady then? The draft is a crap shoot. A lot of first round QBs became legends; Kelly, Marino, Aikman, Bradshaw, just to name a few. But then you've also got from the first round Johnny Manziel, JaMarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf. Montana was a third round pick, Brady sixth, Bart Starr was picked in the 17th round. Johnny Unitas, Warren Moon and Kurt Warner were all undrafted free agents.
@@tygrkhat4087didn’t know there’s a 17th round
Chad Pennington was a good QB. It’s just he had below average arm strength. But he read defenses well, made good reads and was an accurate passer. But the arm strength really held him back.
He got hurt hello
His arm strength was great until he got hurt.
He had a cannon before his shoulder was basically removed from his body and stitched back on...😂 fr though, that injury ended his time as a star (or potential star)
I don’t k ow if you guys are just parroting each other, but his arm was average at best even before the rotator cuff tear in 04. Even at Marshall, throwing to Randy Moss, he never had impressive velocity. A cannon? Come on guys.
@@joedill4311 it’s funny that all you guys are saying this, because his arm was always a weakness. In fact the player profile report from the year he signed with dolphins literally says “he never had a cannon for an arm” before it goes on to discuss the injury. His draft day profile lists arm strength as a weakness as well. I don’t know why you all remember it differently. Can you give some insight as to whats makes you believe this? Or maybe It’s like the Sinbad genie movie…
The guy in the B role after John Abraham’s name was called, quite possibly made the best “WTF” face I’ve ever seen in my life lol
Damn i 30 years old and i remeber at 10 watching something on tv from the 80s it looked just like this. Damn im old.
They missed the opportunity to draft Shaun Alexander huge fumble😂
Huge fumble? They had a future HOFer in Curtis Martin in his prime. Going RB in Round 1 would’ve been insanely dumb.
Yeah, Shaun Alexander ended up being the biggest steal of the draft
@@chesscomsupport8689are you joking? Can't be serious
And yet the Jets plan going into draft day was to package some of those picks togther to move up higher. But they couldn't find any good offers to take.
At the time, 2000 was considered an unremarkable draft pool.
If Chad didn't have those shoulder injury's he would have been the best QB Jets have ever had.
The Jets did it again in the 2022 Draft!!!! Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson and Jermaine Johnson in the 1st, not to mention Breece Hall in the 2nd
*TOM BRADY* lol
All those guys were decent to really good. The problem was Tom Brady was in his prime at that point.
He wasn't. That was in 2000, I believe the same draft as Brady, before Brady was a starter at any rate. And they were the last team to win the division for a decade besides the Patriots in 2002.
@@scottb3034patriots were in the super bowl like 2 years before brady took over, maybe only 1 year... everybody still jerks off to Tom brady not realizing he walked Into a superbowl ready team that many decent quarterbacks could of won atleast a couple rings with patriots. Tom brady was not the goat still isn't and never was. He also had to play 5+ years longer than Peyton manning to beat his records. Peyton 5 mvp awards Tom only got 2.... not to mention how many of them years the patriots cheated got caught twice but how many times did they not get caught? Fck tb12 his team was stacked for 20 years plus his buccaneers sb ring... that team was super stacked for 1 year to win the sb. It's all a big joke, kinda like nfl 2024 will be illegal to tackle this year. Boycott this wwe show
@@brucehansen7949 Went to the SB in ‘96 and lost by 14, in ‘97 lost to Pittsburgh 6-7 in the divisional, and then lost to the Jags by 15 in the wild card in ‘98. Bill by himself probably gets them at least one of those rings but they needed Tom for the 3 in 4 years. And nobody wants to hear about regular season records or MVPs when your guy constantly choked in the playoffs. Let’s not forget that the only reason Peyton is 2-2 in the Super Bowl is because his Denver defense was stacked af. At least when the Pats beat the Rams the second time 13-3, Tom had a fantastic performance in the AFC championship game. Peyton was just along for the ride for that second ring.
@@brucehansen7949need a tissue? You sound ridiculous
This was actually a really solid draft. All four of those guys were good.. with Abraham being the best of the bunch. Those crowd reactions just show that Jets fans rarely know what the hell they're talking about... a fact that still stands to this day.
You can’t be a Jets fan unless you’re clueless. It’s a prerequisite.
Abraham was a beast
Really not bad at all. John Abraham was a savage. The other dudes were all serviceable
And they all missed Brady😂
If he was a jet, who's to say he wouldn't of been Injured early in his career like Pennington was? They literally changed the rules just for Tom brady, fck that pos nfl poster child, just like mahomes now... gotta pull in the swifties to regain nfl fans cuz the real nfl fans quit watching cuz its 100% rigged. And what do ya know... the swifties won the superbowl with a sh!t @ss team. Chiefs were holding on every single play in the superbowl 4th quarter and overtime vs the 49ers. Clearly 100% rigged but who cares, it's show business. Just don't call it sports anymore. Nfl is 100% entertainment now same as wwe.
Everyone missed Brady. There were 198 opportunities to draft him.
I love the Jets fan that got all WTF? regarding John Abraham. That dude was a consistent beast at his position. I can understand sometimes why owners have zero respect for hardcore fans.
Jets were playing Madden Franchise mode
Pretty damn good choices, all except for Becht
A late first round pick starting 132 career games is not bad whatsoever.
Becht was a very good TE for his time. You have to remember that back then, only Tony Gonzalez was any type of Pass Catching TE. Antonio Gates didn't come along til later.
@@justinlast2lastharder749Was Becht used as a blocker more?
Tight ends that were used to block more tend to get overlooked because there’s no number attached to their blocking.
@@justinlast2lastharder749there were actually other good receiving tight ends then. Shannon Sharpe, Wesley Walls, Keith Jackson, Ben Coates.
Betch is actually TE unlike people like Gronk Gronk was glofied WR
30 Years of Service Between 4 Players
*And 0 Rings*
The killer bees of the 80s Dolphins have zero rings. What’s your point.
It's all rigged anyways, has been for decades. Go re watch oj videos and watch all the fake tackles of defenders only knipping at his ankles like that's how pros tackle.... it's all bs fake crap has been for decades. Just wait for this fall of 2024, now it's illegal to tackle with your weight...??? Just bring on the flag football already. This was a pretty good draft for them
One of the best drafts ever
Ellis Abraham and Pennington were all great picks. Becht was fine at TE for a bit. This was a great job by the Jets
John Abraham and Shaun Ellis are both great pickups, Chad was Alex Smith before Alex Smith
All of these guys contributed, I was happy as a Jet fan
The Jets had Parcells retire, Belichick go to the Patriots, and had a new coaching staff with scouting in disarray. These are decent picks considering.
damn, i wish we couldve seen what a non injury prone pennington could do, always loved his fucking toughness, wish his body didnt give up on him
4 outstanding picks
John Abraham was a beast and CP will be one of my favorites forever. Still hate that he played in Miami
Pennington was really good just got hurt all the time
Abraham and Ellis were both great DEs. Becht was a solid blocking TE with good for the time receiving potential. Pennington...is perhaps the biggest "what if" in NFL history; his accuracy was superb, his arm "good enough", but he only ever had two healthy seasons.
I wouldn’t even call his a what if tho, imo it seems like he was just unlucky with joints and tendons that degrade faster than an average persons with that many injuries he had, it wasn’t like Bo Jackson where it was a true freak injury and what if story
@@JamesB-mi9uu His 2002 season showcased he could have been a top-10 QB, and if you remember the teams the Jets had through most of the 2000s, a top-10 QB and they win at least one Super Bowl (2010), and quite possibly a second (2009). And they had strong defenses in other years where the offense let them down (2005/2008 both come to mind).
@@gamerk316 honestly I was more afraid of playing Sanchez than I was Pennington it may have been personnel but I think a big factor alot of people don’t value is confidence where Sanchez was extremely confident at this time believing he was the type of qb he wasn’t, while Pennington gives me a low to no ego type of guy impression and that can be a problem when it comes to competitiveness and fire
John Abraham was a beast
Qb was last on the list of needs 😅 times were different back then.
The one they were upset about was the one that was best. That’s usually how it goes.
They drafted 5 guys that lasted 10+ years in the NFL, that's pretty freaking good.
You gotta love that the jets fans were pissed about the best pick of their draft
Abraham was an underrated monster on the field. Jets fans have to know that…apparently front office didn’t.
That was 4 solid picks. It is a shame Pennington's shoulder fell apart.
Jets also selected Laveranues Coles in the third. Really solid draft.
Raiders selected Sebastian Janikowski in the first round :D
I don’t know if people realize but Pennington came 2nd in mvp voting in 2008 and won 2 comeback potys in his career, last good qb the jets have had
Pennington was a tragic story with how the injuries ruined his chance to become a big time QB in the NFL... same injury that Brees suffered but he never came back the same unlike Brees.. 😢
That was a good draft for real
4 solid picks. The fans just shitting all over it hahahaha. I love the draft
To add to it, the draft venue was Madison Square Garden in New York City!!!
Anyone named, Abraham, Gabrielle, Isaac, or Jacobs are going to be a Beast at football
Imagine picking four times in the first round, just for some guy picked in 6th round of that draft to make you his punching bag for two decades.
Wow that was a great 4 picks. All of them are some of the greats.
Becht was the only REACH from the 1st Round for them. The Jets are screwed, even when they stack their own deck 😂😂😂
That was a great draft for them
Great Picks
I expected to see 4 draft busts but all 4 of them were actually good in the NFL especially Pennington and Abraham
That was a solid draft.
Never should have let Abraham go, great draft though
early 2000s footbal was lit af
People don’t quite understand how awesome a great defense is?
they also drafted lavernous coles in the 3rd round of this draft if im not mistaken
Folks also forget that the Jets picked Laveranues Coles in that draft as well, in the 3rd round. The Irony here is that the Jets had 4 1st round picks, hit nicely on their 3rd rounder yet Tom Brady was picked by the Pats that year as well, essentially nullifying everything done by the Jets in this draft.
the best player came out of the 6th round. Well, the goat to be exact.
By far the best draft for the Jets, all 4 were solid players at minimum.
Damn those are some good picks
