As someone who lives in the Hudson Valley, you definitely hit up some amazing spots and loved the video. You also came at the right time to explore the northeast in the Fall. There is a ton of history in the Hudson Valley of course, and its impossible to see it all in 2-3 days, but if you ever make it back and you're history buffs, I would totally suggest hitting up some of the famous houses like Kykuit (Rockefeller Estate), Sunnyside (Washington Irving's Estate), both of which are right near where you were (Sleepy Hollow). There's also FDR's Home and Presidential Library in Hyde Park. Of course, most of thee homes have tours and require reservations to get the whole experience, but totally worth it.
Thanks for the recommendation. Next time I'm in the area these will be on the list. I'm pretty lukewarm about all US presidents but my friend is a pretty big FDR fan lol. But you don't really need to like someone to learn something valuable from visiting their historic estate IMO.
@@DaimyoD0 FDR guided the USA through the Great Depression and WWII. His home is largish. The museum is good. It is a nice place to walk around. Most presidential homes, are not worth the effort, but a few are. Mr. Vernon, Monticello, and FDR estate are. We started our journey in Albany on the Hudson River the last week of November almost 3 years ago. A family of 5 on a 38 ft boat we've since sailed thousands of miles and visited multiple countries. Watching your video helped us reflect how far we've come as we sit here in Guatemala. The Hudson is on of the prettiest rivers we've had the privilege of sailing.
As a lifelong Mid Hodson Valley resident, I truly appreciate this video. I honestly believe there's no other place on earth that is as beautiful as it is here in the fall. Thank you so much for showcasing our beautiful part of the world
I lived at Mohonk as a child in the 1950s - no driving on Sundays, electricity was 120 volts DC- lights and heaters worked, but not TVs. Limo to the school in New Paltz. Final year, we got AC current and had a television.
There is another castle in New York, called Boldt castle, near Alexandria Bay , NY. in the 1000 Islands. It is now closed for the season but you could look it up. Quite the love story behind its build. I was able to take a ferry ride from the Canadian side to visit it. Even needed a passport! Can't wait to see where you go next.
Yes quite a love story, it was interesting reading about it. My stone-built house here in the UK, is actually older than that castle. It's great that it has been fully restored, because it would have been a shame, for an interesting part of history, to be left in ruins.
There is also Singer Castle down river! Singer Castle was actually lived in and you can stay in it now. Summer is great, but fall is beautiful in the 1000 Islands!
I beg to differ with you Eric, we are all useful and both of you share your trips with us which gives us knowledge, joy, and hope of places to go. We love you guys!!! ❤
Thank you so much for showing the world that New York has so much than just the city. I’m from up by Saratoga Springs. Love your videos. You all are awesome!
So excited you got to see so much fall gloriousness! I about lost it when the train whistle came out. I guarantee we would be doing the same. Can't wait to see where else you guys visit next!
10:25 Technically, poi usually refers to balls on the end of ropes, which can also be used in fire dancing like this. Poi is originally from Maori of NZ and wasn't a form of fire dancing originally, AFAIK, but has since been adapted into a contemporary flow art, which includes fire spinning. I think the term is now sometimes used more widely to refer to fire dancing in any capacity, particularly when it is seen at tourist resorts in the Pacific islands. Inside the flow arts and fire performance community, the flow seen here on the video would be called staff / fire staff, and depending on the style, contact staff (in addition to fire breathing). Fire performance can include a variety of other props, like dragon staff, S-staff/baton, rope dart/meteor/puppy hammer, fans, hula hoop, leviwand, sword, nunchuks, orbital, juggling, fire breathing, and countless others. At any rate, the distinction is a bit pedantic and I don't think anyone in the community would call your statement outright wrong, they'd get what you mean, and the use of the term here is actually pretty neat IMO. I was excited just to hear that you've heard of us lol Source: I spin poi, sometimes including fire poi, and a little bit of rope dart and staff. P.S. If y'all ever see this, huge thanks for the Harvest Host tip, I am super excited.
I'm adding the Hudson Valley to my places to visit, thanks for sharing! And Alison, IMHO your life is very useful! You are just a ray of sunshine and this channel always makes me smile. :)
I live in the Hudson Valley and fall is truly one of the most magical times of the year here! You guys did some of our favorite local fall activities! The Pumpkin Blaze is always so much fun for us. Glad you enjoyed our beautiful area of NY State!❤
My mom took me to Mohonk Mountain for my 10th birthday and it was absolutely amazing. It was such a gorgeous place. I did a horseback tour & the fish in that lake are GIANT.
Wow you guys timed your trip to the Hudson Valley perfectly! The fall colors look so majestic! The little island on the lake with the castle reminds me of Lake Bled in Slovenia. But without the yummy custard cake! Loved your vlog there with Travel Beans years ago!
The Jamaican food looked delicious and the quality of your content is superb. I had no idea the Hudson Valley was so gorgeous with it’s resplendent fall hues.
I’m from North Jersey & Love the Hudson Valley. Mohonk is great, it is pretty steep $$ to stay there, but the grounds are world class. I’d say only things y’all missed on were seeing West Point. As pretty as the finger lakes, Catskills, and the Hudson valley are, the Adirondacks are the most stunning scenery in NY state. Recommend a stay in the Lake Placid area sometime.
I understand your wanting to put down some kind of roots. My mom & dad were super active RV'rs for many years and their home base was a 32 x 42 post and beam metal sided building to park their motorhome and car and boat inside. They built a 2-bedroom apartment in the second story at the back of the building to stay in while NOT traveling. But when they left on a trip their car and boat and "apartment" were all safe and sound inside this big building at the farm. They installed a trailer waste water dump/drain outside with a water supply for any of their RV friends (Beans?) that might drop in for a stay. What a life!
I've watched some of your earlier vids of redoing the RV, Clementine. I can see why you miss her, but I LOVE that camper you are in now. You can set it up and use your truck to travel to the store and etc. I think I'd like it better than an RV, but that's just me. :) Happy trails. See you in the next one.
What a great adventure and enjoying all those autumnal colours.Slickly put together with humour and well crafted all the way.The pumpkin light displays were dazzlingly good.Bravo.!
The fall is a wonderful time to visit the Hudson Valley. But there is a lot more to see north of Kingston. Opus 40, between Woodstock and Saugerties is amazing. The City of Hudson, in Columbia County became a major whaling port in the early 1800s. The Village of Coxsackie in Greene County has a charming downtown right on the riverfront. Historic districts in Albany and Troy have been used as sets for filming The Gilded Age because there is so much intact historic architecture. Lots more to see!
I really enjoyed watching your video just now (Sunday, June 25, 2023. You both have a great attitude towards what you are doing and that is very important in life. I'm originally from Brooklyn, York. As a teenager took some trips to the Catskills with family or friends but I never took the time, as an adult, to truly appreciate the beauty and charm of "upstate" new york, especially the Hudson Valley. Going to try to convince my life partner to take a trip with me from South Florida, this summer. She has grandchildren near New York City so it shouldn't be too hard to convince her! All the best to you both!
This is our first fall not being in Canada and missing out on those colours is something I'm missing way more than I thought I would. Another great video you two!
I loved that you guys shared my neck of the woods. Hudson Valley is beautiful year round. It my home and there are more hidden gems. I’m glad you guys you enjoy it
I can't believe he went to Mohonk Mountain House trails and didn't even mention about the mountain climbing in the Shawangunk mountains. Where Mohonk Mountain. And you didn't even stop in New Paltz to eat at some of the great restaurants we have.
Hey it's my home!! I miss living in the Hudson Valley(Wappingers Falls to be exact). This video makes me miss it even more. It's been 2 years since I've parted ways and moved to Florida. I miss it so much, especially during the Fall season!
Great tour of my old stomping grounds! Traveling up RT 209, did you guys stop at the Hasbrouck House in Stoneridge? And if you stopped in Woodstock NY, just a few miles out side town up the mountain is an authentic Tibetan Monastery and Temple. Across the street are some pretty great hiking trails that take you all the way up to an awesome view of the entire area. With the Mohonk Mountain House, not sure if they still offer along with a trail pass, you can purchase a meal ticket and take advantage of their dining hall. And yes, great eats at Top Taste!
This was a beautiful trip down memory lane. I was born in Poughkeepsie (the Walkway is an old train trestle), grew up in Ulster County and eventually built a house about a mile up the hill from the Westwind Orchard. We had a view of Mohonk from across the valley. We had our senior prom there. You guys are really cute and this video was well done! I enjoyed ALL of it and learned a few new things. Thx!
Too bad you weren't still here in Michigan. Our colors were amazing this Fall! But that pumpkin extravaganza you saw made it worth the trip to the Hudson Valley! Beautiful area, I've only been there in summer.
Mohonk has a great brunch. If you go during the week it is cheaper and it includes access to the grounds and 4:00 tea. Hyde Park is amazing! Culinary Institute of America has multiple restaurants. Apple Pie Bakery is a great option for lunch and of course dessert. All the mansions along the Hudson are must sees. If you don’t want to tour the houses, most of the grounds are free. Olana is our favorite! Rossi Rossi Italian Deli is a must in Poughkeepsie.
I grew up just across the Hudson from your last stop, living in both Hyde Park and Staatsburg. I miss that whole area. Used to go to Mohonk for hiking and rock climbing all through my high school years. Fall is the perfect time of year there too. I'm glad you're enjoying it so much!
Glad you made it to Storm King and Mohonk. It looks just like it does on Upload. Me, I'm further north in Albany, but you're definitely hitting the highlights.

Anthony Bourdain featured a place on No Reservations in that area, and I can concur their food is top notch! The black dirt is a crazy looking region too, the most amount of reclaimed swamp land outside of the Everglades!
I live in the Hudson Valley area (Castleton-on-Hudson). I my area we have a strawberry farm, apple orchard, and buffalo farm that you can visit. There's also a winery at the apple orchard. Plus there's the Schodack Island State park with a boat launch on the Hudson and camping. Spring in the Hudson Valley can be just as beautiful as the fall when a lot of the trees are in bloom.
Living in New Paltz, I kinda forget that people see our area as a touristy one, lol. You get used to how beautiful everything is and forget that it's not like this everywhere.
So excited to see more New York adventures, and in my new neck of the woods! Did you guys check out the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery? Thanks for giving me more places to add to my NY bucket list! ❤
We did visit the cemetery, but almost immediately got kicked out. 😅 Apparently it closes super early and a grounds keeper had accidentally left a gate open. What little we saw was awesome though! It's HUGE!
