We're Eric & Allison and we're on a journey to find the most interesting places and unique foods this planet has to offer! We've traded in our steady paychecks and permanent home for a life of travel and adventure. Come along and see the world with us!
It's a brilliant business model - buy the animal feed, sell it to the tourists and they'll feed it to the animals for you.
Most people have no idea that NYC is only like 1% of the state. The state is covered with forest mountains lakes farms etc .
I live on a farm not far from the Finger Lakes and it's so nice to finally see someone who doesn't think the world is all glass and concrete.
I grew up in Arizona, born and raised. Never was east of the Mississippi, except for bootcamo in Great Lakes and visiting inlaws in IA. Then, in my 40's I became a truck driver, drove across NY state on i-90... and I have NEVER seen as many trees as I did on that drive... rolling ridge after rolling ridge, crammed with more trees than the can count. Changed my outsider view of NY for sure!
This one literally brought tears to my eyes. My adult daughter and I chased the leaves from upstate NY through New England two years ago and had the time of our lives. You retraced a day in the Finger Lakes, much like ours. Thanks for sharing your memories and reigniting some lovely ones of my own. Safe travels leaf peepers!
Aww! So glad we could bring back some great memories for you 🥰 Hopefully we'll get the chance to do a longer trip like that next fall. We really weren't expecting to see so many colors - it was magical 😍
I grew up in Ithaca. I lived there for over 20 years! I’ve never heard of grape pie!
The "finnnnger lakes" (as you wiggle your fingers) made me LOL!
I grew up going to Walkin’s Glen and hiking the falls trails yearly. We liked about 3 hrs away, we would wake up early pack a lunch and make a day trip of it. Beautiful in the fall.
Yes, I remember seeing the Amphicar in the ‘60s when it was new! And Watkins Glen is my most favorite State Park in the USA! We went there on our honeymoon in 1978, and we went back there again a couple of years ago.
This is what’s so hard to explain when I tell people I’m from NY. The Finger Lakes are beautiful and as a bonus I get to spend time daily driving through the area for work. That Grape Pie looked quite different from most I have had, it’s normally more like the consistency of Cherry Pie
It's so beautiful in that area! And we had a hunch our pie wasn't all that authentic...we'll have to keep our eyes peeled to see if we can find a more homemade version 🍇
I thought the same. This is my hometown and I have had grape pie at least 3 ways, this is the most "gelled" that I have seen. Typically more like Cherry pie, sometimes with skins but most without.
As the 2007 King and Queen of the Finger Lakes Wine Festival, we welcome you to our realm.
Don't forget to VOTE!!! The world depends on it. Hi from up north, eh!
Me, watching on phone, thinking it’s fine. Then beauty shots make me switch to the big tv! 😂
Thanks for showing that NY is much more than just NYC.
Sweet video! Sent to me by a friend... and then I realized you were at the market the day I was playing music with. my band! I remember y'all hanging out and filming us. Small world.
My favorite RUclipsrs strike again. Perfect fall video. Now I want grape pie.🍇🧀
it's great that you didn't take us to Manhattan or stg. but to the NY countryside which is less known and definitely more beautiful..thank you for the amazing content, Eric&Allison the best ⭐️💯👏👏👏
I grew up in this area and yes the grape pie I make is much more juicy its delicious with vanilla icecream!!
I have never been to New York State but it is beautiful and would like to go some day. Farmers market looks like it would be fun to visit. Stay safe in your travels. Walk in Peace.
FALL COLORS!
I've lived in the Finger Lakes region for about 32 of my 35 years on this planet, and it always blows my mind how many people seem to think New York is just one big city or something lol. The total area of actual farmland in NY (~7,000,000 acres) is more than 35 times the total size of New York City (193,700 acres.) The total area of forested land in NY (30,200,000 acres) is more than 155 times the size of NYC. NYC houses nearly half (43%) of NY State residents despite being only 305 square miles (the state is 54,556 square miles total area.) New York is WAY more than a city. In fact, I would go as far as to say that the Finger Lakes are a far better representation of what New York is overall, than anything you'd find in New York City.
Anyway, I'm glad you guys came to the Finger Lakes. Everyone knows what New York City is, and what it's like, but the Finger Lakes is an absolutely gorgeous region that I doubt the majority of people even know exists. I hope you enjoyed your stay!
Wow beautiful! I’ve never seen this side of NY
I'm from Ithaca, and Grape pie is more like a cherry pie, also you should have checked out Taughannock Falls State Park (pronounced Ti-gan-ick) Beautiful in the fall. Virgil is another good spot, right in the mountains to see in the fall. Glad you had fun in my part of the world :) !
Can not wait for you to visit Alaska and Hawaii '😁😊
I love the Finger Lakes. One BIG thing you missed was Taughannock Falls, on Cayuga Lake, tallest natural waterfall east of the Mississippi. You can hike through the gorge or check out the overlook.
Also, the gorge-ous pun is an actual thing and made me giggle
Popular bumper sticker: Ithaca is gorges
Right on yall! I'm the guy playing the guitar at the farmers market. Glad you enjoyed the veggie jams 🥬🥕🍅
Found this about the Amphicar that you found at the alpaca farm.
"The vehicles were produced in Germany by Quandt Group and were available to buy from 1961 to 1968. Production stopped in 1965 with 3,878 produced, of which 3,046 were imported into the U.S." They are currently worth just over $73,000 for a good condition vehicle.
We have an alpaca farm near us here in the UK, where you can pay to go on an alpaca walk. You get to take the reins and walk next to the alpaca and go for a walk in the countryside for an hour. They are lovely animals.
My home city.. Watkins Glen..
Just saw on TV news that Aspen Colorado is the number one place in the world for fall colors. The wife and I one year chased the fall colors all the way from Maine to Georgia, it was a lot of fun staying in some really nice Mom & Pop RV Campgrounds. It might have been our timing but we thought the best fall colors were in the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina.
I have to say after having recently coming back from a road trip all over Colorado, that fall colors there are stupendous. I live in Georgia and get up to GSMNP a lot, but the trees out in Colorado are so different, and the leaf shapes and colors are so diverse.
We are Australian and we timed a 7 week USA visit to visit the smokey Mountains in NC, we were not disappointed, it was amazing, and the icing on the cake was to see a baby black bear high in a tree. We don't have bears in Australia so it was a massive moment for her and she got photos.
Well that's a great little fact to know! We might just have to head out west next fall 🍁
@@steveth1000 The wife and I were lucky and got to go to Australia back in 2006. We rented a motor home drove around the outback and the great ocean road. We really loved Australia and the people we met.
Aspen is OK, but not nearly the best. The best fall foliage is in the Northeast. There's more a variety of trees which produce a variety of colors. Aspen only has one variety, the Aspen.
This part of New York is just stunningly beautiful! We too also visited in autumn. Letchworth Gorge and the drive through the park. Drove through the lakes, visited the Glass Museum in Corning, visited the Cornell campus. The best part was finding a small road that ran east-west. Drove it to the west, up and down the ridges. It looks like Ireland.
Amazing! Getting lost on the back roads is definitely the way to go in that area. The scenery is stunning 😍
This is one of the best videos you have ever posted. It has been on my bucket list to visit the Finger Lakes area. Thank you!
Thank you so much, Emily!! So glad you enjoyed chasing the fall leaves with us 🥰
Happy that you were in my neck of the woods and got to enjoy some of our fall foliage.
Glad you made it up here!! Watkins is cool and there are a lot of places to check out up and down the lakes, definitely a different vibe from downstate......Now I have to go back out and rake all those leaves!!!! Beauty has it's price! Happy, Safe and Healthy RV to you!
The only part of New York I've been to is Niagara Falls. I grew up in Michigan so I know how amazing Fall colors can be. I currently live in Texas. (not good for Fall colors. Our trees are still green and will turn brown eventually.) I hope I get to visit other (not NY city) parts of the state.
I never realised before how much countryside New York had, I just thought it was all buildings! It's stunning.
There's beautiful countryside just out of the city. Check out Sleepy Hollow.
Whaaaat! Cambodian food was highly unexpected! For Riel 🤣
It came up on the map at the beginning. I live in Baldwinsville that small town just above Syracuse. I don’t watch you guys as often as I would like. If y’all are still in ny you should come to some of our small towns. Bville is a super cute place with the Erie Canal system running right in the center and we are lock #24. Our matching band actually played in the macys thanksgiving day parade years ago and the rose bowl in California. We have a cute little candy shop and some really nice restaurants all family run. The cottage is the place to go for some breakfast foods! And we have a small place called beaver lake which is about 10 minutes going to the outside of our town. It’s a little lake in the trees and a lot of walking trails!
I lived in B-Ville for about 5 years. Great place to live!
I love a good Seinfeld reference 😁😁
What a beautiful video of the Finger Lakes. I live in the Hudson Valley my entire life and have never been up there. Next Fall I must duplicate your itinerary, it looks magnificent. You guys look so happy ! Looking forward to more fun adventures.
The Watkins Glen Gorge is really beautiful. We also went to the Corning Museum about 15 minutes from Watkins Glen. Very nice museum with glass blowing exhibits - worth the trip if you are in the area.
Loved this video! I have got to visit Finger Lakes!
There is a T-shirt you can get that says “Ithaca is Gorgeous!” We are from Geneva, NY and will never leave.💕🍁
We just left New York didn’t spend a lot of time there because We wanted to catch Arcadia National Park before it closed for the season. The foliage there was AMAZING. New York foliage was nice too but you know. Same same but different 😉🤣🤣
Hi folks thanks for the video keep up the good work
You guys would love the Thousand Islands area, Boldt Castle. Check out Association Island Campground on Lake Ontario, sunrise & sunset is amazing on the lake. And oh, seek out Cheeky Monkey Sauce, it's a local tomato dipping oil to die for.
Omg wife and I were there yesterday. We live on seneca lake. Amazing area especially for wine lovers. There are many awesome brewery and distillerys in the region. Tons of history. Woman's rights, it's a wonderful life, many forts. Fun state to live in.
This is awesome! I live 45 minutes from Ithaca. I'm so glad you saw it in the fall. More beautiful waterfalls there and some great restaurants. 👍
One of my fav areas of America. I went to Cornell. So many beautiful areas to see and waterfalls in every direction. That Cambodian place is my fav place to eat. I lived off that stall in college, don't think I would have made it to graduation without Khmer food nearby when I was homesick. There also a great diner at the top of Seneca Lake called Connie's amazing pies and smothered gravy burgers. Also a wildflower trail in Ithaca that's amazing in the Spring. An Amish/regular outdoor market called the Windmill. So much! Thank you for taking me back in time to my younger years.
Visiting NY was one of our all time favorite travel memories.
Next time do a full wine tour in the finger lakes. They have a bunch of very unique wines and some great distilleries.
This is so peaceful and beautiful- just a perfect little trip! Very crisp autumn morning with waterfalls!
One day I'm going to visit the USA in the autumn/fall to see the colours. In the meantime I'll just have to make do with what the UK can offer
So glad you made it to Ithaca's farmer's market!! I spent so many weekends there in college, it's great :) I definitely recommend checking out the Ithaca Commons next time, they have a lot of great restaurants and host a few festivals throughout the year.
Last year, we went from So Cal to Maine. We traveled through the northern part of NY and I was shocked. I have never been to NY before this visit and I always only heard and saw pictures about NY City. New York is quite beautiful and I would love to visit it again.
Whoa, that's quite the drive!! 😮 But we definitely agree - New York is so much more than just NYC. The countryside and mountains are amazing 😍
We are at Ft Drum, NY. I wish we could run into y'all sometime. So cool seeing you go to places we have been. Enjoy your trip!
Upstate NY is an amazing place, you have to stop at the Lake George area
Yup. I live about 25 miles north of Lake George. That being said I'd suggest Keane Valley to Lake Placid for an excursion.
Great episode, Great part of New York State.
11:53 When Eric said they had some bad news, did everyone else think they’d had a phone call from a repair shop saying Clementine has blown up?
If you’re heading back east don’t forget to see the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. It’s in a very nice small town Main Street. Next to Lake Oswego.
Ithica farmers market is where “Just a few acres” sells at. It’s an awesome RUclips channel also. 🥰
Oh we had no idea! Bummer!
Nothing beats fall camping
Never seen this channel..that girl is absolute adorable ❤️❤️
Love that your focusing on what’s outside of New York City. 👍🏾 The state of New York is more then just New York City!
This is where I grew up. Interlaken about 30 miles north of Watkins Glen
Wow! The 8th wonder of the world! The back-side of water!!! 😁
I swear, you guys get better and better at this with each video. It's so much fun being immersed in your adventures!
The grape pies I've seen up here are usually more like blueberry, a bit more gooey that that. But that still looks tasty.
Scenery was gorgeous! Eric buy that hat it is awesome!🦙🐫🐑🍂🍁🍂🍂🍂🍁
Ah, I was at Watkins Glen in my campervan at the end of September, right before the leaves changed. Would have been cool to cross paths! I'm surprised you didn't go to any of the cideries there for a cider tasting paddle (like beer tasting). You've gotta try cider donuts, which are also in Vermont if you've gone that way. Also recommend apple picking and non-alcoholic apple cider, if you see an orchard offering it.
We just missed you! Don't worry, we have some NY cider tastings coming up ;) And I don't remember if we filmed it, but we ate our weight in cider donuts at one of the cideries lol
You need to check out the Adirondacks. My cousin lives up near Lake Placid. It’s so beautiful there.
I lived in Geneva (north end of Seneca Lake) as a kid. The best eight years of my life. Great video. Subscribed.
This was a really good video.
I've never seen grape pie... and I grew up in NY and went to college near Watkins. Y'all should have continued the office theme and gone to check out Andy's alma mater... I think the name was Cornell? Ever heard of it? HAHA! Corning glass museum in Corning Ny is pretty cool.
I went to college in Elmira NY so I spent a bunch of time in Ithaca. There is a cool science center there... and always something at the colleges. Elmira isn't far away either. On the Elmira College campus is Mark Twain's octagonal study where he wrote several books. Also Elmira is the Soaring Capital of the US. The national soaring museum at Harris Hill. You can be towed up by a towplane and go soaring on gliders. There are few places in the world that have proper thermals to be able to do that.
Oh hey you’re finally in my area! Omg you were at the farmers market two blocks from my house 😀 I hope the guy at Silent city coffee was nicer to you than he is typically. The Cambodian is amazing we have a huge refugee population here. The guy who cooks the food came here during the Khmer Rouge.
Aurora, NY on Cayuga Lake is one of my favorite places. Seneca Falls, NY was the model for Bedford Falls in the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The town was recreated back in Hollywood. It was also the birthplace of the women’s suffrage movement.
Did you already visit Niagara Falls? If not, then that should definitely be on your list.
Love how you and Travel Beans match up your video releases.
I am so excited to see the grape pie. Everyone I mention it to thinks it's weird but my mom made it every year in the fall for the family. As a kid, I was in charge of skinning the grapes. Concorde grapes are only available for about three weeks so these pies are special indeed!
Oh what a great memory! We've snapped beans and shucked corn, but skinning grapes sounds much harder 😅
You were about 90 minutes away from our house! We LOVE Watkins Glen, Seneca Lake and Canandaigua.
Love the sunset colors in this video
So glad you guys enjoyed our neck of the woods. Yes, the grape pie is supposed to look like that. Being a transplant here, I found the whole grape pie phenomenon a little astounding. Glad y'all enjoyed Seneca Lake, great choice!
Somebody missed national haircut day on October 1st. There’s always next year. Hair washing day, however, can be celebrated 365 days a year, or more! There’s no limit!!!
Welcome to Upstate New York! We had a most beautiful fall this year especially 💜
My brother bicycle in the finger lakes area of New York with the church group. It was beautiful during the summer also.
In my old stomping grounds. First Air Force duty station there. Total of 15 years in that beautiful area. Miss it but not the lake-effect snow. Ha! Thanks for the memories.
The best grape pies are in Naples, NY -- at the base of Canandaigua Lake. Glad you got to enjoy the Finger Lakes!
the best time of the year here in ct is the fall time love how new england looks enjoy your travels stay safe and enjoy
Love the Ithaca farmers market!! Have been there many times while visiting relatives that live nearby. You picked a beautiful area to visit.
Clicked so fast, my Home state New York. Last visited in May I was in Manhattan and Poughkeepsie the city I was born!!! It's so beautiful with a perfect balance of city and country living!!! I clicked so fast!!! Hope y'all enjoyed!!!!
You two find the best places! Here in Japan, we're having a beautiful autumn also!
Nice to see you in my neck of the woods. Finger lakes are gorgeous year round.
Thanks for visiting our neck of the woods. Most people don’t realize we even exist outside the city. If you ever come back in the Fall or Winter you need to come a little farther west and check out Elicottville. It’s a big ski town with shops downtown, breweries, wineries, and lots of fun stuff to do. Right up your alley!
Watkins Glen was a family camping favorite when I was a child in the early 60s. I remember playing in the freezing cold water with my sneakers on because there were so many rocks. Thanks for bringing back those sweet memories!
My boyfriend and I live right in Montour Falls, NY which is a town over from Watkins Glen, NY. Its fun to see your video cause I never knew how much there still is in Watkins Glen Ny. Haha
At Disney World they have amphibious cars that drive into the Little lake there at Disney springs. One of my kids favorite things to do every time we go!
Hi. Missed you at Ithaca FM. Worth coming back to see more. Cultural center of the universe.
Welcome back! Missed the Vlog from Rochester, It was removed before I got to see it. So sad. John, Webster, NY
Thanks for sharing your visit to our region! I'm glad you had such a good time! Grape pies definitely vary but most are runnier, like cherry or berry pies. Hope you can come try them again some time!
My mother-in-law made grape pie from grapes we grew on our property. It was pretty loose and not very gelatinous. This was about 40 years ago.
Yayy..you were here in my backyard aka near Finger Lakes! We have had one of the most stunning fall seasons ever..so you hit it head on, so happy for you! Watkins Glen is awesome and the pier is such a good quiet place, glad you enjoyed but you gotta come back as the BEST Grape pies are at the "Grape Festival" over in Naples, NY... Cindys pies are amazing and a but different from what you had. Whem you come back someday you have to a foodie place called "Brews and Brawts".. the best lunch around with warm german potato salad. Safe travels, great vid's!!
