Glazed Lemon & Poppy Seed Cake🍋
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup butter, softened
4 egg yolks
juice and zest of half a lemon
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups all purpose flour, sifted
1/4 cup poppy seeds
4 tsp vanilla extract, divided
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar
2 tbsp milk
1 1/2 tbsp butter, melted
STEP 1
Preheat the oven to 350℉. Grease and flour a 9 1/2 '' tube pan.
STEP2
Place granulated sugar and softened butter in a large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer set at high speed until creamy. Beat in egg yolks, lemon juice and zest.
STEP 3
Mix sour cream and baking soda in a small bowl. Add mixture alternately with flour to creamed mixture, beating well after each addition. Stir in poppy seeds and 3 tsp vanilla. Fold in beaten egg whites. I gently fold in half with a mixing spoon, and the other half with a table knife.
STEP 4
Spoon into prepared tube pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 45 minutes. Cool in pan for 15 minutes.
Step 5
For glaze, combine confectioners' sugar, milk, melted butter, and 1 tsp vanilla in a small bowl; mix well. Drizzle over warm cake.
Noodles & Fried Cabbage🍲
1 small head cabbage, shredded
2 tsp salt
1(8oz) package wide egg noodles
3 slices bacon
1 tsp caraway seeds
1/2 tsp black pepper
STEP 1
Combine cabbage and salt in a bowl and mix well. Let stand for 1 hour.
STEP 2
Cook pasta; drain well; keep warm.
STEP 3
Fry the bacon in a large skillet. Transfer to a paper towel to drain. Add the cabbage to the bacon fat in skillet. Sprinkle with caraway seeds and pepper.
STEP 4
Cook cabbage over low heat, stirring frequently, until tender, 15 to 20 minutes.
STEP 5
Combine cabbage and pasta in a large serving dish and toss to mix well. Crumble bacon over cabbage mixture.
