Unfortunately some of the newer car seats have the headrest that is farther forward. They do this to keep you from getting Whiplash in an accident but the problem is it forces your head to sit more on your chest instead of lined up with your spine. That's why it's important to put some back supports to help with that problem. Love all your information Bob and Brad!
I've heard some people flip the headrest backwards to help w this issue but then if you get into an accident, that can potentially be something that can mess with insurance claims so it's like a "experiment at your own risk" type of thing but I've heard that helps
What really helped my back pain was to have my knee and butt on the same level. Not the butt lower like in a bucket seat. Pain went right away once the top of my leg was level
I just tried this in my Prius V and it helped right away !! Thank you for the idea 🙌🏼 Just putting the chair higher does seem do the trick 😌 Even though my knees are like constantly hitting the bottom of my dash now sheesh haha
The newer cars often have enhanced safety designs with the seats, but they are so curved that it feels more like extreme bucket seats. They are taller & push the head forward more. The head rest is also expected to be at least at the top of the back of the head to help prevent whiplash. But I need to try something to increase comfort at this point cause it's causing pain.
I would love it if someone would address how to deal with car seats that put your body in a terrible posture, causing pain and discomfort. Many seats I have found promote forward, rounded shoulders and forward head posture. It’s maddening.
My feet get too uncomfortable, I try to adjust my seat the best I can. But the peddle placement in my Impreza sucks cause there is a massive gap between the 2.
Comparted to the older cars like pre 1990 ish cars and car suspension is getting so dam hard. Car seats used to feel so nice and soft. They used to have the same springs as our house chairs and couches.
One problem with attaching stuff to the seat is that some seats have things like airbags in there, or anti-submarine seats. Also it may effect the working of your seatbelt in an accident by letting you slide forwards in the seat. Personally. I'd prefer to get a car that actually fits/suits me if at all possible.
I've noticed that the bottom cushion in newer vehicles has gotten shorter offering less support to the thighs. Although some cars have a thigh extension for the driver's seat, many do not. I think having inadequate support to the thighs contributes to back and leg pain. Is there a cushion out there that solves this problem?
leg pain -> maybe directly connecting to schiatica or piriformis (or both) I don't know the answer to your solution but i move my a$$ around to make it more comfortable(since my new car has hard horizontal foam thingy)
This is exactly what I needed!! I literally was just looking for ways to be more comfortable because I just graduated from college and have a lot more time to drive places!
I've had issues with the neck hump. I can't stand the forward tilting headrests in my truck. thank you so much for the many ideas. I will try sock and other things
Fits perfectly rear-facing in our truck, which has a slightly smaller back seats. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx6_FKRYB2ClSPRyjcd8HptiCS3EiQoNX4 Feels as comfy and plush as our Graco Contender carseat.
Would love to see a similar video for long plane trips. I once tried to bring a lumbar support cushion on a plane and I was not allowed to use it. I could see using a shawl, jacket, or small towel instead. Any other tips for preventing soreness and blood clots?
Thanks for another informative video. As a transport operator I can relate to this having neck and back problems after a long drive. Will be giving your thoughts a go.
Thank you for sharing. Just want to say with the leaning back. Do at your own risk. 1. The seatbelt is not snug to you 2. You are at an angle for a car crash. I personally, in highway driving, lean back as have modified system where dont need feet and hands, also chances of head on collision are extremely low. I can still turn wheel and touch pedals as needed and see everything, technically better. It's your life, feel free to do it, just understand the risks and make sure driver knows to further take in consideration they need to defensively drive like everyone should.
I wish you d do a spot on TERRIBLE HEAD RESTS and WHAT TO DO . We have a volvo 2017 and shoves head SO FAR Fwd it creates nexk soreness in 20 minutes. Some acura's the same . Porsches no problem. Asked the Volvo GM and he ignored us , and the salesman said 'its for safety' first . Ha ha . Try a volvo xc 90 2017 for yourself if you want to make your chiropracter rich.
Hay Bob and Brad, loving your video's. as someone who is dealing with SI Joint pain, right side, i found discomfort driving, especially when accelerating and breaking and not long after levaing the vehicle experiencing the sharpest and worse pain i have every experienced. any suggestions on how i can be more comfortble while and after driving?
"let someone else drive"..LOL...that would be my husband, but he's had double vision twice and the doctors don't know why...say he's safe to drive...but I was with him the first time it happened and it was scary...I had to help him get the car safely off the road..had we not been on a country road with no traffic we might have wrecked...I won't ride with him driving so I have to do it all...I get sciatica in my right leg..it's miserable...not a problem for me riding but driving, after a few hours it's misery. I don't fly so if I want to see our kids in TX it's 16 hours by car. It's a major issue.
All great things. TY for sharing. My issue lies in the T section of my spine with bone spurs. Osteoarthritis. And hard pressure on the back part of my ribs in the T zone makes my back and front of my ribs hurt. A lot. I sometimes end up sitting a bit sideways to avoid it. What cushions would you recommend for that issue?
What is the brand name of the longer lumbar pad that you showed several times? (Brad demonstrated it a couple of times.). This would also work well for cellists who have low back issues (a lot of us) to use on our cello chairs.
First i wanna say my lower back is so wore out some days i wanna just die. i have 2002 silverado 1 ton.I will say this is harder on my back than the 18 wheeler i used to drive.I tried to save my original seat but putting old school springs in it.the no sag S springs. And that did help a lot.So i made myself a custom seat from a house chair with the no sag springs in it to give some up and down spring action over bumps in the road.My back is so bad i get pain going into my legs from pinched nervers in my back. Its not only bumps on the road but just the road vibration that constantly irriteas my back driving.'sometime after a long trip i have to chill in my house for a month to start to feel better agian. The pain can get so bad i just wanna die.
Would some sort of foot rest help (for passenger) for low back issues? I have a 14 hour ride coming up and am very afraid it’s going to mess me up like it did last time.
If you do another car video, could you talk about how to counter a headrest that angles too far forward, which is so common in vehicles, and pushes the head forward? Maybe the sock Bob suggested would help with this......
I was thinking...for vehicles with rougher rides (older cars, sporty cars) couldn't the bolts be removed that hold the seat into the bracket or the bracket into the floor board and have a small o-ring washer cushion to help absorb more impact? like, I know the difference would be negligible at best but still
Great Great stuff guys! Any more tips for sciatica or aka painful butt cheek, I know u briefly touched on it but we didn't really get an exact "do this" and your 2hr drive limit becomes 6hrs before the pain requires a stop.
I also tend to get shoulder troble because my legs are longer than my arms and I don't have the telescopic (reach) adjustment feature on my car. Any suggestions?
I've always for sore hips after more than 2 hours travelling (plane, car etc). I had this problem even as a child. it can get quite uncomfortable. any ideas what the problem might be and possible solutions?
the way to tell if its the seat making your body hurt or if it the pounding of the bumps going down the road. Go out and seat in your car while its parked not moving. Then see if your back still starts hurting when your not moving. Just sit there reading or wathing videos for the same time you drive eah day. If you back dont hurt parked then theres really nothing you can do except dont drive so much....
Any product will bend your spine to an uncomfortable position over time. Best thing is to keep playing around with your seat's controls until you feel your back in neutral non-hurting position.. But seats aren't meant for people who want good posture.. Hence why you can't see people with perfect upright spines anymore
Anyone out there drive a Toyota. I’ve had a scion and now I had a carolla. I was stupid and thought I would like the carolla more than the scion The seat hurts my right butt cheek and it sucks. What do I do
Can you guys do videos on how to prep your body before big games or workouts? Having injuries and always hurting is really affecting my performance and I do rehab stuff but is there any steps to ensure best results on a big day?
My problem during long car rides are my knees. My quad and muscles around my knee start to cramp up and the pain becomes excruciating making long drives really difficult. Any tips?
I absolutely hate my Toyota 2019 Corolla drivers seat! Hurts my back, pulliws & gadgets dont work! I wd love to get another seat that does what i want & so i can put it way back to straighten your body out to sleep at z rest stop! I will keep looking!
WHY do you physical therapist ONLY refer to Mechanical back issues?? There is inflammatory back pain that is way MORE painful than mechanical back pain. And once it Progressis ENTIRE spine FROM tail bone &hips, lumbar mid back, neck & shoulder excruciating as with ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS.. I bet I get no reply from either dr.! Let me answer for you you're not schooled well enough about it.
its exactly what I need as well but cant make myself watch past 2 and a half minutes of this. Guess you are trying to be funny. I will look elsewhere for help.

I always wondered why it was so far forward!! Wow.

@@connorbrennan2920you could use a pillow to raise your butt up

Yes! That!
Don't buy the vehicle would be rule 1...
I hate it
They all do. I hate traveling bc its so uncomfortable
My feet get too uncomfortable, I try to adjust my seat the best I can. But the peddle placement in my Impreza sucks cause there is a massive gap between the 2.
I keep a tennis ball in my car for the “sock” trick. It works very well for trigger points that bother me while driving.
Comparted to the older cars like pre 1990 ish cars and car suspension is getting so dam hard. Car seats used to feel so nice and soft. They used to have the same springs as our house chairs and couches.

Brad was hyped up in that intro! Love the driving tips. You guys really enjoy what you do.
Probably because he is going on vacation

Another vote for that! I can't get comfortable.
You guys are great! Just a brief suggestion: improve the sound of the recording - for me it was muffled. Thanks for posting gentlemen!!
Need one for sciatica leg pain, right leg, seat is too short and need leg support under.
I like you guys a lot! THANKS for all you’re doing! GOOD INFO!
I hope you have a great vacation Brad! Be safe and enjoy your time! Sooo.... What will you be doing Brad? Going solo?
Thanks Jody, it was a great family reunion camping trip with many outdoor activities enjoyed by all.
Have a great trip!

These are good ideas… I was thinking about ripping the seats out
Thanks, you guys are great!

The kebado pillow looks nice, but could you get them to make it with heat?

I miss the flat car seats for the bottom, as well as the shoulders. Now the newer ones have curves...it doesn't make sense as to why.
Any tips for travelling long haul on cramped airline seats?

You really need to do these videos with a modern car seat. That is not. The head rests are completely different.

Microbead-filled pillows feel great for necks.
