So a few of things. First J.D. I appreciate the video.
Ive got an uncle who’s been driving city bus for over 50 years & he uses the wooden beads cushion. I on the other hand I take multi-state motorcycle trips each year where I sometimes put on 500+ mile days & use an air bag seat cushion.
The key I’ve found is say after about halfway through the ride or when I start feeling it I switch to the air bag cushion. By changing up it gives me new life which allows me to ride further in more comfort.
✌🏽
When I was 40 years old I owned a beaded seat cover. I am now 70 years old and looking now at your channel I am missing it. I'm going to make it a point to go out and get one, again!
I used the seat beads back in early 1990’s when i drive can in New York City. It was actually very comfortable. I sat in my cab for 12 hours a day 5 to 6 days a week and it made a major difference.
Used a wooden bead seat cover on my motorcycle for years. About 10 years ago, moved over to an AirHawk inflatable pad. It’s softer but hotter also. Would go back to the beads for a trip where there might be rain. Great for keeping your backside out of the puddle.
I was here trying to find how those beads will feel.. I was gonna buy them to help with my butt hurting all the time when I sat for too long... My thinking was the spaces between the beads will help blood to flow in between when seating much the same way those anti bed sore egg matresses do when you sleep where the bed matress surface is shaped like egg containers..
I think a pillowcase full of jagged rocks would be more comfortable than the seats in my 2016 Chevy 2500HD. They're literally the worst seats I've ever had in a truck.
😂
😂. So weird, my 2004 Tahoe leather seats are very comfortable to this day.
@@chrisdemas8246Those 99-07 seats are extremely comfortable. Love them in my 06 lbz.
Had a pt cruiser once that had seats like a pillowcase full of jagged rocks!!
@@chrisdemas8246 you would be correct and that is because the 1999 to 2006 were the most comfortable seats GM ever made. I have a 2024 denali ultimate 2500 and they may as well be bleacher seats with a little bit of having on top. Very uncomfortable, especially after 1-2 hours of driving. Don’t get me started on my six hour trip each way. I had Pain.
Damn, GM seats must be bad if we are trying wood beads. 😂😂
One suggestion, when you use the wooden bead seat cover, make sure it covers the whole seat (where you sit) and you'll get the most benefit out of it. You will not slip if you are sitting totally on the beads.
i drove 124 miles per day commuting the beads are the best because they provide the best cooling . they ALLOW HEAT to escape right away as soon as your body releases it . they are the best for long or short trips . especially the long ones because its the body 's inability to release heat that causes you to become tired , sleepy and perhaps crash your car . a good bead seat " cooler " for your seat ( since its not a cushion ) should be one made with real wood beads and held together by a metal cable instead of plastic or fishing line .
Driving many kids on road trips I can say the beads were real good…..
the beads are the best for cooling , the heavier you are the more you will like the beads because no matter how much you weigh , your weight cannot eliminate the COOLING AIR GAP between the beads and the seat that the wood provides . because the beads are so so close together they eliminate those pressure points we all hate . " old school , in this case is better than new school "
Go look in any over the road big rig and see what they using. You will find them wooded beads if anything. Unless they got them new fancy seats.
I've done many thousands of miles with the beads and love them! My key issue is lumbar support.
lumbar support really depends on the seat itself . the cooling beads with cool you regardless of what seat you have
Looking forward to seeing how this test comes out. I’m definitely looking for something to help the back on longer drives.
I had the beads and loved them.
Have car companies just forgotten how to make comfortable seats? At the start of the video I can see the wood beads being good for increasing breathability on cheap vinyl seats. I've tried one of the lumbar cushions before and didn't like it because it pushed me to far forward in the seats and I lost the support of the seat bottom under my thighs. The lumbar cushion works good for people with short legs though.
Lastly, the leather Denali seats look like they are just fancy vinyl. I learned from Car & Driver magazine years ago that Alcantara "suede leather" is actually a synthetic fabric that car makers charge more for despite the material costing 10% or less than actual leather.
My theory is that it has to do with crash testing, A hard straight seat makes for a more consistent test bed? Maybe I don't know because I'm with you I can't figure out how technology keeps progressing and yet seats feel like you're riding on a buckboard wagon
I think you need to go upmarket and get some good seat covers that have some additional padding. I don't have high hopes for $50 Amazon products.
I had a set in the 70’s lol tgey were weird on the as but I might like it now lol ✌️👍🇨🇦
We have a 2020 Denali and the seats are slightly harder but very comfortable on long (12000 mile) trip
yes , very true , but beads can even improve that .
Wood Beads for life. The ventilate and massage.
Foam no answer but beads yes - perfect if you are in a hot car especially with older vinal seat covers. They allow much better air circulation to keep your body cooler.
I would think 200,000 cab drivers would know what’s comfortable all day.
Hi….. your truck seat has air heater or air cooler if you have both. Do you think will block the air? Thanks 🙏 keep it up 👍
I mean thousands of taxi drivers cant wrong..
The GM seats have the issue of being too firm and the bolsters are too narrow. In our traverse my legs start having issues after a couple hours and the seat is identical to the seats in the trucks.
Thank goodness I have air/heated seats with lumbar control. Only downside is I cant put on a seat cover.
I bet the cushion is the same part number as the base trucks.
My dad's 91 F-550 had factory air lumbar support.
Does anyone know what type of wood beads people are using for these bead seat covers?
The beaded seat cover wasn't properly fitted. It was too small. The beaded seat cover should cover the entire low part of the seat and extend up to the head rest. You also want to make sure that the vertical part of the seat is fully covered with the beads also. If necessary measure the seat so you can get a cover that is the proper length and width. Yours way too small for the seat. I could also tell that the cover very cheap and not worth what you paid for it. Beaded seat covers that are put together with nylon cord are the best value. They cost more but are worth it.
Beads are comfortable, I can't comment on anything else.
It looks like your passenger seat headrest is tilted forward. That said it's surprising they wouldn't let you tilt the drivers headrest forward.
That's what I noticed when he was talking about it. I was like but the passenger side was tilted.
The whole seat is more upright so it looks like it's tilted.
I used a wood bead cover back in the '80's (possible tech changes?). But I found it comfortable, only complaint was it moved a lot when entering and exiting the vehicle. Good luck! 🤪😁
Interesting; before the sit test. I was sure the air filled cushion was going to the worst...
I am very leggy and in most vehicles my seat is all the way back or close, so extra distance moving the seat back may be an issue.
My dad's seats In high country Hd imo are terrible. I think if I find the right Hd truck Gm or Chevy, I'm going to take them to an upholster and get them done how I want them. For comparison my seats in my loaded P4x Nissan are awesome for short drives or long. I'd want to match those or put them in my next truck lol.
I've seen bus drivers use wood beaded seat cushions for some reason
These beads are for people who sweat a lot and are designed to protect the seat.
The beads must allow air to get to your skin
I prefer AirHawk over the beads, but if you have seat coolers, the beads are better for airflow.
You haven’t put the bead cover right you’ve managed to put it in wayyy too high.. the bum part is mean to nearly all the way to the front of the seat ..
the purpose is to allow air between your bottom and the seat to stop those areas from getting sweaty or clammy 👍
Ok, so why did you buy a truck with seats that are uncomfortable ?
I am betting on the beads. Leg support is lacking in most vehicles, especially trucks. I was doing a lot of traveling and was looking for a good semi luxury car that got good gas mileage and was comfortable. Ended up with a Volvo. Also flew a lot and was give a Hyundai Azeri from Avis. Best seats ever in a midsize car and wish higher end trim sizes in trucks would address it.
I had a beaded seat cover and my hair would get caught in the beads. I threw it out. Something to think about if you have long hair.
As a truck driver, I’d recommend a contoured seat cushion with a cutout for the tail bone. They look like a regular seat cushion but have a small cutout in the back. It relieves the pressure on the tail bone and spine. We buy ours on Amazon and they’re about 1-2 inches thick. We love them!
Thank you. I would protect your seat from any of them.
We have a RAM 3500 that gives me a lot of pain. I have spine issues, but more in my sitter. I want to get a fifth wheel, but i might have to give it up because the truck wears me out with such a rough ride!
I'd say the foam is an automatic fail for me. They get way too hot. ETA: as you point out it limits your leg room.
Beads, not so much for comfort, but cooling for me, everybodys butt, back, comfort level is different, But 10,000'sfor a new truck could ma,e a better seat.
Need to swap in some cloth GMT400 seats 🤣
Or GMT800, both are extremely comfortable 😂
Gel pads
Lol it was tested 30yrs ago
