I don't quite do the binder method (yet), but I've always sorted my collection similarly. By set, by collectors number, more than 4 copies of a card gets set aside for bulk to give to younger siblings, friends, or sold for store credit.
I've only been playing for about a year and my cards are in one of those bulk boxes sorted by colour. This definitely looks like a better way to organize them! I would imagine this took some time.
i never keep them in boxes for too long. the moment the cards start rubbing up against each other; and the cardboard side of the box. it will start to warp your edges; etc. putting them in and out of the box ; all the time ; will have an effect on the card as well. sleeve them up first before anything.
I have struggled bad lately to organize. My issue is organizing for someone who regularly loves brainstorming deck ideas. Browsing cards, laying my cards out until i find the ~36 cards i want to use. So binders and alphabetical would just be too hard to keep in structure and easily browse. I tried binders for special sub collections. Great to cherish, struggle to deck build. Ive grouped by color identity but now those stacks are all large. Ive tried reducing out thr "bad" cards but the more you play magic the more corner cases you imagine about how every card might be good 😂
“What about binder dings?” Me, internally: “What about I don’t turn the pages like a psycho, and we are golden?” Seriously more chance of nicking sides with the side loader nonsense they have these days
no actually. binder dings occur when you place a binder upright in a shelf and the front and back pages start to sag and then the rings put pressure on the cards
I have begun organising my collection in the same way and I will attest to the fact it is a massive undertaking. It will be so worth it in the end, knowing exactly where any given card is!
i have mine organized by rarity. for example. binders of nothing but commons. binders with uncommons. binders with rares/mythics. binders for land; and binders for foils. every single card i have painstakingly inputed into tcg player to track my collection value. currently its about 7300 cards. i think i still have about another 1000 cards to catalogue into tcg player. mind you ; this has taken me at least 2 years to catalogue my collection on tcgplayer. got back to collecting magic in 2020.
I started to do this as well, I started with TSP block because its what I had the most cards for back in the day. I already had to upgrade from a 1" binder to 1.5" and may have to do 2" to fit all 3 sets in the block. Hopefully future sets will be able to fit in 1" binders like he has here. That said, I really like how it looks! It's easy to find things, and nice to just browse some, and all my cards are protected. I have a lot of empty spaces, but i don't mind, and it also gives me a visual of how much of the set I truly have. I also really like that I will never have to move stuff around if I get cards or take stuff out, everything has a home even if I don't currently own it... One thing is, I'm trying not to keep more than 4 of each card in there. Hopefully they will fit if I have 4 facing one way and 4 the other in one slot, i'm a little worried about that but it hasn't come up yet...
Informative and hilarious! I'm in the process of rethinking how to organize my collection. I'm hoping to do something similar, especially with all these copies of Seance I have lying around.
I use the same dice for my Dice Factory deck thats in your Hashep draftbox, also l sort my cards by color, card type, then name until l got to the point where its a pain and abandoned sorting them
I was looking for organizational ideas but I gotta say, though completely unrelated, Love the Score Z boxes just chilling off to the side. Also good to know I'm not the only one who keeps sleeves lol
Do you do 4 of each card in your binders for set collection or is it one of each? I hear you mention if you have more than 4 of something you think might be good later you keep it in a bulk box. From the peek into your binder it looks like just 1, unless you're doing 4 to a slot which it doesn't look like.
I'll put 4 of anything that seems like it could be good or worth holding on to, and also for most rares. Otherwise it's just 1 per slot, so the binder isn't too bulky
Interesting to see other people's collections. I guess the defining factor is how you buy cards to how you sort them. As I predominantly buy singles binders per set isn't a good fit for me right now but maybe if I start collecting blocks I will do that. 👌
Am I missing something? Because the way I see it, if you're looking for a card that's been reprinted multiple times, and you don't have copies of every set, it takes a while to find it. Or is that manageable because you sort by collector number?
@@8thPlaceDave are they any good? I see lots of reviews saying they can't hold 100 double sleeved unlike it says on the product and it's damaging cards
@@computerwaste5950 I like them. They are very durable. You can fit 100 double sleeved cards, but it is a very tight fit. You need to take extra care when putting the deck into it, which is annoying, but it's something I'm okay with given the rest of the qualities of the box.
It's a checklist token. That's what used to be in packs to use for double-sided cards, before they started including the newer version that just has the blank name and art.
These cards are organized so poorly that this might as well be a comedy video. This is 100% a joke I don't actually mean this and totally love 8thplaces content, but I don't actually play magic so I wouldn't know if this is good organization or not.
Really cool to see how others manage their addiction. I’m in the process of moving sets into binders and bulk boxes and it’s quite the undertaking!
The beat up black lotus jumpscare at the end was funny.

Great ending! Also impressive collection
Thanks for sharing, its really nice to see collections like this!
Really liked seeing your 'interesting' stuff binder, with all the godzilla foils.
Page compressor bars prevent binder dings

veiling oddity’s is from the one you put it in the water bowl to test if it worked in the short
You got it! You're the first one ;)

eh. not really. plus the card is sleeved before it goes into binder. i still have a few cards that are unsleeved in the binder. looks perfect.
The sag is a risk if you’re putting more than 9 cards in. Keep it singles and it’s light enough to not sag
😂split black lotus was awesome😂😂😂,fantastic collection!

Yeah dbz ccg was great :)
In my head cannon that new magic collector still has them in piles on the basement floor
Your godzilla segment is my dream, almost done with getting all foils! Just missing those lands.

I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Ah you too have the organization method of SIB/SWICG - Stuff in binders/stuff where it can go
God damn, thanks man i didn't know the number was pre-alphabatized.
I was gonna break it down color by color, i might still do that i don't know yet.
I have boxes of bulk rares and binders for high value cards and then all my bulk in long boxes organized by set, wubrg and rarity

do you double sleeve? and if you do what sleeves do you use?
I double sleeved my decks that have valuable cards in them, and I usually use Dragon Shield sleeves :)
Gotta stand up the binders like records
Nice collection! Do you use perfect fit sleeves on every card in your binder?
Nope, just for ones that are particularly valuable
@@8thPlaceDave Oh wow! You really do go out of your way to answer here after 6 Months. Thats dedication. Thank you and greetings from Germany :)

impressive
So are there 4 of each card in the binders? Or just 1 each?
4 if it is a card I might see myself playing or would want a playset of, or for any rares/mythics. Otherwise just 1.
Dave, you have an addiction!
In the godzilla collection, you missed the buy a box (zilortha), so it's not complete
It's on the page before, because there are 1 too many to fit one a 1 page spread :)
I just skipped that page in the video
Was that a Frank Zappa spirit token? Nice.

I thought i was organized..,...Hey Dave, what would you do if someone came in and dumped everything 😮 on the floor and mixed it all up?
What was that at the end?
your life flashing before your eyes
What’s the card on the bottom left at 1:25?

Я даже представить боюсь, сколько денег на это ушло. Но коллекция достойная.
Organize magic cards? Is that some kind of foreign food?
Like for the Zappa token ;)
Do you have any cubes?
Nope :o
cool
What the freak have you done to that lotus 😱
Printed it out from with my printer and paper clipped it onto a card ;)
Better 8th place Dave than 9th place Dave

Weird flex, but ok, not all of us can afford 57 binders🤪😂 but its actually a really really nice organization👍
Did you actually count each one? Tbh I don't know how many binders I have. $1.77 each at Walmart.
Oh no I didnt count😂 was an educated guess, and yeah I figured they werent some fancy overpriced ones
