- I'm an amateur and an enthusiast, I don't make a living from this job.
This short clip is my first entry into animation (I think you can tell from movement of astartes.) I started learning 3D myself about two years ago and this is the result. The clip itself is basically a training and rehearsal for graphics and animation ... I am a little handier now than you can see in this clip :) and I will continue to improve until the final fan movie - Divine Crusader.
If you want to know more, follow my projects on IG page.

I would like to thank you all for such positive responses and, most importantly, for your sincere criticism. It gives me not only a great motivation for further work, but also a very necessary feedback. I really didn't expect such a big response in such a short time, especially when there are amazing projects on the air like Astartes or Death of Hope. Speaking of this, I do not want to (and with my experience I can not) face these greats :)
But I want to work on the Emperor's great work and tell stories about his immortal Imperium. I know my animation is very robotic for the time being, but I'm learning to handle it better. But I have to admit that it is not my goal to achieve 100% realistic movements, models or textures. That's too much for an one enthusiastic amateur. I want to focus more on the image's atmosphere, storytelling, image composition, and so on. Let's just remember for example the cut-scenes from Diablo 2 ... From today's perspective, very unreliable animation and 3D work. But you still chill on your back when you look under the hood of a Dark Wanderer. That's my goal!
Now I'm working on another training video that should be ready around Christmas this year. Meanwhile, I am finishing the screenplay for the final film - Divine Crusader. From the new year on, I want to start working on the project. In the course of this, I will give more small or large information and stuff for feedback. Thanks again.
The Emperor protects.
You're the Chosen One sir
Years ago I saw artwork that was a mix of a comic, with beautifully rendered 3D models, scenery and landscapes and some cutscenes for part of the story.
That might be nice if animation, especially walking are hard to pull off. Instead of still renders like comic you could use tricks with minimal animation in many scenes. Just zooming out or in can work wonders to get a sense of scale, and a first person view switched to panning around (so you then see the no longer walking model) can avoid some animation and still work for the story.
Hope that helps!
*Looked it up*
The artwork was Sinkha Hyleun or the Sinkha project by Marco Patriti:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinkha
Old but maybe very nice to get ideas from!
Bloody awesome work mate
I like it and i love this video😍 i hope this work continue...you have doing a great job❤👍
Прекрасная работа, статические ракурсы интересны, содержательны, красивы.
Но вот динамика...
Дружище, с этим нужно что-то делать. И не забывай что в этом будущем есть место только войне. А война как известно...
While movement is choppy the lighting effects on the armor from the eyes is wonderful
Thx. :) Its mean lot for me...
Luckily, movement can be worked on. this was amazing
yeah everything is amazing once you get the movement smoothed you won't know the difference between this and a high end video the detail is just amazing maxes me want to see more
I love the glow from the eyes off the armour. This is so promising!
the glow is great but there is so many details in it as well like the waving flag to the voice recording running in the background really setting that warhammer 40k vibe
I like the vibe. Tho the space marines movment are well choppy.
Thx. Yeah movement is still "work in progress" for me... But I gonna do better ;)
@Daniel Drew On the one hand, yes. Primaris made a "nice" hole in the story. On the other hand, you can't take it back. I'd like to use that and tried to create a new story that will move our favorite world a little further... But I understand your point of view :))
@@GabrielChristtiane I got kind of a Dead Space 1 vibe from the scenes showing of the hallways. That alone has peaked my interest, but your clean and high quality animation has my attention. I look forward to seeing what comes of the series.
BTW, what chapter is the Marine from? Is it a custom chapter or maybe I just don't recognize it.
I want to say it's an Fire Angels marine (ultramarines successor), but I can't be sure. I don't recognize the heraldry.
@Daniel Drew grow up
Atmosphere: Great.
Lighting: Great.
Colours: Great.
Detail: Great.
Voice Acting: Decent.
Animation: Not great; not terrible.
Keep it up! Hope to see more of this.
Thx. :)
Gabriel Christtiane I give the animation a 3.6 roentgen out of 5 haha.
(Everything looks really great. Animation is a bit choppy as others have pointed out but that’s just a matter of refinements)
Don’t forget sound design and effects! I thought the bolter was appropriately boomy. Footsteps were great too. Although I might add, some variation in footsteps would be even better to account for changing environmental acoustics from a moving source.
You speak the words of the Emperor, brother.
@@GabrielChristtiane nice. не Astartres, но работу уважаю.
I see great potentia in this. Carry on, for the emperor!
For the Emperor!!
My thoughts exactly, brother!
Great video, loved the atmosphere, mate!
Great Chapter Master, would you please lend aid to our valiant battle brother by throwing up a video on your channel telling people about this? (He doesn't even have 500 subs yet)
Ohh :) What a honor Chapter Master. I'm glad people like the atmosphere ... It's the main thing I want to work with. Because I will never have animation or modeling on the same level as other projects like Astartes or Death of Hope.
Keep it up and refine your art then maybe this could be the next Astartes several years down the line
@@GabrielChristtiane Great, if you can come to my discord and send me a PM :)
Glorious!
The emperor protects.
And having a loaded bolter never hurt eighter.
Yes, yes :)
Now that's a throwback
I'd rather have a heavy bolter by my side
Keep at it, you're doing great. I can't wait to see the evolution of the vids
Thx :) Well I looking foward for more work. Now I working on script for final story.
thats what i wanted to write. Keep going on, emperor protects!
Love it.
Others have pointed to the movement and missing Magazine.
My critique is on the PA announcement in the beginning- we know the Imperium is highly censured. Therefore any bad news is unlikely to be broadcast, if it does make it, the information is likely to be either vague or sanitized. There is also scope for attributing any issues to failings of Faith.
The first part about a new shaft and exceeding their Quota is spot on.
I get that you are setting the scene, but consider the following instead:
"The accident in Shaft 4 has been stabilized and mining will continue. Look to the Emperor and he shall protect. Idleness leads to Heresy."
Followed by "All workers injured in Shaft 4 are expected to make full recoveries so long as their Faith holds."
Then you can add something like "Anyone heard spreading rumors of self-mutilation or hallucinations from the shaft 4 will be judged as committing Heresy and will be executed on the spot"
That way - all bad news is downplayed and given a positive spin, and the Audience (understanding the dystopian 40K setting knows that all is never right) gets the picture that something happened (probably heresy....)
Finally the last transmission "they are here" could be said with a little more franticness
@Lord Admiral Spire fair points, but I disagree - this isn't one of the more 'liberal' planets in the imperium, it's a mining planet, where the workers are barely one step above Slavery.
Could the administration be fully open and transparent? Sure, they could, but it's highly unlikely, not only due to the risk of rebellion, but more so that too much knowledge might lead to heresy and the attention of an Inquisitor.
On top of that, a planetary Govenor is unlikely to be wanting to cause panic in the workers - so a message of 'everything is fine' or more likely.
@Lord Admiral Spire wow i have not seen such a civil discussion on the internet for a long time. No insults, just kind disagreements. But i shouldnt be suprised. Warhammer 40k's average fandom is older and therefore more mature than other franchises. Carry on brothers and remember: the emperor protects.
Astartes, the death of hope and hellsreach: Finally, a worthy opponent!
Well... I can only wish that. :D
Astartes is head and shoulders above death of hope and hellsreach
@@brightestlight9462 That helsreach finale tho was great!
A worthy aspirant to join our chapter!
@@brightestlight9462 unfortunetaly astartes account was hacked and stolen
Very impressive so far looks really good though the marine needs to fit a magazine into his bolter.
:D And you are winner!! :) Believe me or not, I recognised this thing in the middle of work, when part of animation already rendered :D So yeah... Next time its gonna be with magazine :)
@@GabrielChristtiane i hate pointing things out like this as i could never do anything like this. Still looks awesome through.
@@ODST576 No no :)
I'm a slacker and I didn't want to remodel it anymore. So I left it there as an Easter egg. You are the first to point it out :) I'm glad because it means somebody really is watching it.
@@GabrielChristtiane I saw it too but the assumption I made until i saw this comment was that he just had some sort of weird short mag in it, lol. BTW really love how this is looking so far, can't wait to see the end result.
The lack of attention on this is heresy of the highest order. Make more please!
:D well to be honest I really didn't expect so much views in this short time, and I love that people are interested... Its fuel for my work
Lack of attention?
Boi if can create that l don't think you have a lack of attention. Even if it's not funded by some big outside source it's still good.

Thx. Glad I caught your attention. :)
By the Emperor...
This is gold, *as golden as the Custodian Auramite Power Armor itself.*
This is the golden age of 40k (and 30k) animation, and its all fan made. Good job man. Keep it up!
Yeah... To be honest works like lord inquisitor, helsreach, Astartes, Death of hope are such a gigant inspiration for me, that I started working with 3D and animation bymeself.
Thx for your post. :)
@@GabrielChristtiane thank you for your work!
Wow I'm surprised how positive everyone is. I was expecting people in the comments nit picking it to death. Glad to see a great community and can't wait to see more videos
I like the atmosphere you created and there's nothing better than watching a space marine shoot unclean scum. The emperor protects
Alongside the badass SCP inspired content, this is a great surge in cool warhammer content too. Great job!
Thx :)
"Sounds promising..."
- Sgt. Sidonius // Ultramarines
This has the feel of an opening cinematic from a late 90s video game. Great stuff.
Pepperidge Farm Remembers... And me too :) Love to heard, that you remember this videos.
God the static and the beeps are harrowing, it really sets the mood... It sounds like the fire brigade phonecalls from the Chernobyl meltdown, fantastic start
I like the atmosphere of this video. Keep it up, brother!
One Space Marine vs a horde of Tyranids? Unfair odds... For them. Or as the Space Marine would say
"Me against a horde of Xenos? Then it is a fair fight."
I dont think those are nids
@@Yingyanglord1 looked like a little nurgling or some zombie. The head shape does remind me of a genestealer tho
@@kidmanwalters4236 Genestealer cult mayby?
Nurgling for sure
Genestealers probably
Because look closely on the head and its face also the hands.
The red eyes reminded me of genestealers bit has molds on its forehead, so maybe a nurgle infestation
Pretty good start, work on the "choppiness" of the animation and you're well on your way to making a movie better than the Ultramarines one.
:D
3:25 holy shit that gave me goose bumps it was soo awesome, the glowing eyes in the distance as you hear the mighty steps of an astartes, I only imagine that terminators walking by are actually shaking the ground 😍😍
Amazing! So glad to see the fans stepping up and making incredible shorts like this. Can't wait to see more of your work. Thank you!
Our war is endless, our crusade eternal!
Don't forget about the sound....the sound of foot steps and breathing and pipes dripping all create a very important atmosphere....keep it up
You're right! I didn't really think about the breathing at all ... Thank you very much for this comment :) I must definitely work on the sounds as well as on animation and other things.
@@GabrielChristtiane hey man your welcome....I'm glad to get a reply and hear that my comment is useful and helpful....he could be breathing quite heavily when he is kneeling and then he can hold his breath as he notices the Xenos behind him...kind of anticipating the upcoming fight....I wish you all the look with the whole project another Idea is to seriously try a crowd fund...or reach out to some RUclipsrs like Arch, Kirioth or Valarak and see if they will review the video and also ask for any sound engineers or FX guys or coding guys or anything like that
@@blacktemplar5970 In fact, I did not expect such a response. I'm a little taken aback. Anyway, it is still fan-made. Out of enthusiasm. We will see how the work goes on and I will work with what is :)
PS: great idea with the breathing...again :)
Absolutely excellent start! I echo the other comments here regarding the Marine's movement, but otherwise on the money. Excellent atmospherics, totally walks all over the GW film. In the name of the Emperor, the Inquisition demands MORE.....!!!!
Holy crap wow, his eyes coming out of darkness and the thud of his mass along with the music soundtrack gave me the chills. Can’t wait to see more!
First time that I know that we have animated Primaris Space Marines, awesome.
Great Job, I want to know where this goes.
I think that's just a mark V head, not primaris
@@RustyARMPIT12 it isn't just the helmet, though that is the most distinctive feature.
The Marine is clearly using a bolt rifle, those are only used by Intercessor Primaris Marines
@@RustyARMPIT12 it isn't just the helmet, though that is the most distinctive feature.
The Marine is clearly using a bolt rifle, those are only used by Intercessor Primaris Marines
ruclips.net/video/qyGDo1ARpjI/видео.html
give this one a look! this one is clearly a primaris.
@@RustyARMPIT12 Mark IV if anything. The Mark V's are the Heresy set, which was just cobbled together Power Armour. Mark IV was the design best suited for close combat while having both pressure seals and helmet movement. It was for this that the Primaris Armour was based off of the Mark IV Maximus. Black Templars are the only chapter that makes such heavy use of the Mark IV... though that could be due to their numbering over 6000.
Well done! The animation will smooth out with time and practice. A very good start, this. Keep at it!
Thx a lot :)
When the marine appeared from the shadows and that epic music sounded really nice
this is still better than Ultramarines, you manage to doing far better than a bunch of professional guy. Great atmosphere, attention for the detail and a freat love for this animation
Can’t wait to see where this goes looks great
Pros: Excellent tension building. Good use of Imperial sayings to put us in the mindset of the people in story, even the ones we only hear about over the vox. Epic music uplifted my spirit. Marine's armor looks very good. Lovely chapter symbol on pauldron. Perfectly shows "and they shall know no fear" without having to say it. Holy shit wtf is that thing?!
Cons: Our marine's movements are very clunky. He moves too stiffly to be a living person. The shot of the hand disappearing into the dark doesn't really add much. You were really building the tension of an unseen threat, then that prolonged shot broke the momentum. A brief, smooth pan from the alter down to an arm lying still at the base of the alter with the body off camera would do the same without breaking the flow.
This deserves more views.
Thx a lot for the thought with the hand... Now I must admit that you have a point!
This is a great first start - I will be glad to see how your art progresses in the future. FOR THE EMPEROR!!!
I got the chills when the Space Marine was shown up close with all his heraldic stuff. :) Very well done, looking forward for more
Excellent work. While there's room for technical improvement, the atmosphere of this short was exceptional for how brief it was. The camera angles chosen were exceptional, especially the shot upwards from the shrine looking into the statues faces (that was eerie AF). The color palette and textures on the environment were very well chosen as well. Some critiques: space marine movement is choppy (others have noted this in the comments as well). The model for the marine could use some work (the gorget at the front of the neck is super thick, the lenses glow too brightly, and the vents in the helmet faceplate should be a bit more delicate). Point of Lore: when he kneels down in front of the shrine is he praying to the emperor? Space Marines as a rule don't follow the ecclesiarchy / imperial cult, with a very few exceptions / edge cases like the Black Templars. Of course, I don't know which chapter it is so it could be one of the exceptions
Overall I was impressed and I hope to see more. Is this going to be a series like Astartes or Helsreach?
Thx for you comment. This kind of stuff is what i need to know to get better.
Animation of movement is little tricky, but now I little bit farer than before and still working on it. I planing make whole new model of armor, so I definetly remember your points.
About lore... Yeah its Divine Crusaders chapter, and even if they are from Gene-seed of UM (smurfs power) they in the past work very closely with Black Templars and they were affected with the believe that Emperor is Divine being (more lore about them will come later, and I thnik that its gonna be with some - errors - so I planing to share it little bit before its gonna be finish. And because the lore is huge I definetly gonna look for advise.)
Iam very happy that you like the "camera work", lights etd. This kind of stuff is very important for me and in the final work I gonna keep lot of atention to this.
And well... Yes I planning something like series, but more like 3-4 little movies, each like 15-20 min with own story that loosely linked together. (We will see, how its go)
Gabriel Christtiane Great work, the points made by this guy and another commentator about the radio broadcast is the only things I see wrong.
It’s awesome how you did this.
I like the armor, can't wait to see the final product.
That's one weird cat
Joking... I love the animation and the detail, it feels so real and present!
Well, since The Lord Inquisitor flaked out on us (press F), your work will be a replacement along with dedicated others. Don't rush this, Brother.
The Emperor protects!
Only in death does duty end!!
Regarding the helmet, the respirator should probably have some insets instead of dark textures, if not, make a high poly with an AO bake. The light looks really odd going smoothly across what is normally an uneven surface. It looks like you only covered those slits black.
Otherwise well done and fantastic atmosphere.
Thx. that makes sense... I gonna do whole new armor so this comes handy.
I sometimes wonder where the right ratio mesh/textures...
@@GabrielChristtiane you should try to get a heavier more metallic footsteps to replace the current footsteps. It looks great though

For a first time offer. This is great. You captured the grittiness of the setting well

This is pretty great! Although I think the mighty Space Marine forgot to put a magazine in his bolter. :P
I am glad you will notice my mistake :) I only figured it out when I had half of the things drawn. I was lazy to remodel it so I left it there as a little Easter egg ... you found it :)
For a first attempt, you show good potential. The story so far has the most appeal so this will keep me and hopefully others satisfied. Well done, the emporer protects.

Looks great, but the movements are very abrupt. Try to have some subtle acceleration and deceleration. Also have small movements to give it more life.
Good advice ... I'll remember it.
Now I can animate the movement a little better :) But still a lot of work si before me.

I love this. The atmosphere is on point.
Honestly great work, love the atmosphere. Can't say I have any love for primaris what so ever bit good non the less.
It was very good. you have stiff competition. Astartes web series and Death of Hope.
The detail was excellent. The Astartes shoulder guard had nice gold border etching. The flags waving and the weaving in the cloth showed a lot of attention to detail.
Conversely, very choppy movement of the space marine. Antiquated. Like from the Ultramarines movie. The scale of the space marine is off. He looked short from the waist down. Although you got the head to body ratio correct. There is debate about how big an Astartes head should be with and without his helm. I think you got the proportion right.
Regardless, I was hooked and wanted to see more. That is the main goal of every fan film and you accomplished that task.
Always good to see new content and your film was exceptional.
