Games workshop act like fucking idiots, but let's not put this down to simply better because those clowns produce high cost 'high production value' commercials/clips that somehow lack any soul or fucking compelling storytelling unless it's in a fucking DOW game or what not. This is better because it fucking nails it, the Krieg marines are perfectly rendered here, except the guardsmen would have flicked dirt up when he parried that chain blade. Extra weight is better than meeting it with a fine edge and kriegs lads while aren't afraid to die are very, very committed to killing their enemies.
I love that the swordfighting is relatively realistic; by that I mean the stances, the lack of overswing, the opponents are trying to control the other's weapon instead of just flailing wildly like a whiffle bat.
I stopped to watch just because of it. Absolutely gross fighting. They using only wrists instead of arms and whole body, this is just pathetic. I fenced better when I was 5. Now I'm 41 and still doing it, so I know what I saying)

This was beautiful. Other animators show the power of the Astartes, and yet you managed to show the humanity from a champion of one of the most zealot and unforgiving chapters there are. Bravo.

Aside from the lack of minor details in the department of animation such as momentum and few clunky looking movement. The amount of details in the art department is just astronomically astounding. I almost felt like I was watching the astartes series at the beginning. Truly a masterpiece worthy to stand with Helsreach, Death of hope, and Astartes among the WH40k fan animations. Keep up the good work!

So, I thought that at first, but these aren't ninjas. The more I saw, the more accurate it became. Both of the weapons were two handed, and they were both being wielded with one hand. Go grab a 30lb metal rod that is 5ft long and hold it at the center, then swing it around a bit to strike something. It actually looks EXACTLY like it does in this. Short movements, jabs, minor twists, parry is easy, though, since that requires the least strength to accomplish. I've used both two handed greatswords and two handed war hammers that are historically accurate. The khorne guy has something ahistorical, but only in the dimensions of the hammer part, which is usually more like a real hammer in size. The spike is correct. Obviously the greatsword requires less strength to use, but the chaos marine makes up for his heavier weapon with more strength and a center grip. Yes, its fictional, but two medieval knights would fight with the exact same moves if they had appropriately scaled weapons. It just looks fake because it isn't cinematic, so we never actually see it. Check out Scholargladitoria, Shadiversity, Metatron, or anyone they recommend if you want the real shit. HEMA, Historic European Martial Arts.
@@GabrielChristtiane Hey just FYI to add to his coment, if you have a 30 series RTX card it is capable of motion capture for animation (if it is available on day 1); that will remove some of the "stiffness" in the animating and make it more realistic.

@@maxhodge7149 it's even darken when you remember that the SPARTAN-II'S were all kidnapped 6 year olds. The SPARTAN-III program had even more moral problems, but at the very least when the UNSC made them (and NOT ONI) they gave those who they deemed suitable for the project the element of choice. Many were expendable and were available because they were War Orphans, but at least the UNSC gave them the choice to walk away or seek vengeance and defend humanity, highlighting that once you say yes, you can't exit the program.

I love this fan base, for some reason 40k just has the most talented animators for these shorts. One day someone at games workshop will have to invest in these people to put out a good animated tv show or movie.
I know everyone always says stuff like this, but the weight of the items is so accurate. A bolter firing a coke can sized round, a grenade being tossed like a wiffle ball by an 8ft superhuman soldier.

Damn dude that was legendary AF, is it just me or are these fan made shorts getting as good if not better in a lot of ways than animations made by some of the biggest names in the industry, Gabriel Christtiane (anyone and everyone else involved) keep up the amazing work. You never know who'll be inspired amongst all the thousands and thousands of people that see this, maybe the next great storyteller even, maybe the one that finally makes us a kick ass live action WH40K full length movie, a boy can dream can't I.

Now imagine this with professional dubbing. It would jump from a solid 9 to a hard 10. Amazing work, incredible art and honestly great animation for the most part. The effect on the Word Bearer's Mouthpiece was perfectly creepy. Loved it when the Emperor's Voice came from the statue.

I actually like the dub as it is, these are soldiers, breed to kill and die killing, not for fancy speeches, so its quite realistic that their voice and speech is just a little clumsy and it doesn´t lose one bit of emotivity.

I like how the Word Bearer's grill is moving at 5:19 and again at 6:03 as it matches how chaos space marine's armor can warp with one's body and.... well pretty much become apart of it

Fantastic animation, solid script. The scenes were immersive with the beautiful Gothic imagery and the sparse lighting. The armor festooned with religious iconography was a great touch. The action was paced well, the dialogue was performed well, and the script was true to the spirit of the characters. I loved this video. It was bittersweet and redolent with energy that comes from self-sacrifice, as should be about a story of the sons of Dorn.

Makes perfect sense to me , i mean their duty is to die in the end , so once his duty is done , well you get a little shoulder tap for a last battle as your reward let's say :) It's 40k after all.
Dude this was so cool to watch. The boom of the bolters in the confined space was brilliant, the iron halo lighting up when the Emperor heard the prayer, really nice work! I'm hoping we'll see more from you too in the future.

@@Saintphoenix86 that’s the bench mark and I was one his first 500 subs. Issue with a started is you have 4 1 min pieces, part 5s a lot longer. This is 13 mins. As to astartes, if you watch pet 3, look at the camera work and compare that to this, and the sound, it’s on par

The Pros: Amazing scenery Texture work is spot on Models look great along with the designs Sound Design to an extent sounds goods Grimness and darkness, liked that little twist on the fallen hero head cliche Cinematography was good but could also do some work with it feeling a bit more fluid rather than a stiff rail line. Choreography is passable but could do some with some work, best do that in practice with your cinematography. The Cons: The movement is a bit too static, it doesn't have that natural fluid nature to it but rather moves from one pose, stop, then to the next pose. Voice Acting can be described best as mumbling, i mean no disrespect but maybe boost the audio a little? Maybe try and normalize the volume of your voice lines to your music so people can hear them better. Audio mixing is very sudden, one minute someone is speaking and then a nanosecond later we got this super pumped music piece out of nowhere. No sort of fade in or build up or anything to allow it to link better. Apparently theirs meant to be a plot? What plot? That end part of the fight feels like a anime, suddenly able to kill three marines no problem but prior was getting his ass beat like his enemy was just their to toy with him. All cause of this unknown super power that comes when the hero needs it cliche. Conclusion: I feel the passion and i'll give it a A for effort but honestly, i feel you may need to bring in a second person to help with sound and video editing and to act as a second voice when discussing how you wish to present the animation and such. Overall, i'd say the animation is C grade, not great, not bad, nothing like Astartes but nothing to a gmod animation so hopefully you take this criticism with a grain of salt.

And in fact I just want be cliche in this video :D Because I love cliche storyes... But I have in mind next big project that surely not be this way :) Well and the plot?? Just simple... two faiths that have one roots and that the strong faith bring victory...
That sick ass knife throw at the end bothers me lol. Traitor SM should have survived that. And yeah the movement is too stiff kinda takes me off the immersion. Its unfair to compare this to Astartes but aspiring WH40k content creators should learn from that.
@@jorgeoaa I was comparing it on a quality scale with Astartes being the top thing that you basically cannot beat and a gmod animation is well, rock bottem, or as low as you can get for all i know. I was claiming his animation to be in the middle ground of the two qualities.
You could try doing a casting call for voice actors, I'm sure the community would love to be part of something this damn good! I really loved it but I agree with the comment, the sound design could use some work but I loved the "wanna try rolling again?" Part shit cracked me the hell up🤣🤣🤣
I'd like to add my opinion in terms of cons, as the pros line up with what you said. Much of the combat lacks impact because there is a severe lack of vfx. Not even showing damaged armor or injuries, the act of clashing itself miss some realism. There is no sparkles when swords clash, bo dust raised on rubble scattered around when these mighty warriors clad in heavy ceramite crash against walls or fall to the ground. The way they are displayed currently, you are just showing two objects aligned next to each other, without no clear sign of how much strength is put behind the blows. Hope I rendered my idea and that ot might be useful. 10/10 in terms of effort though, the emperor protects!
The animations were a little clunky and the voice could do with a little work, but the visuals were absolutely stunning! Seriously this is some of the best lighting and character models I have ever seen, on par with Astartes and DoH in my opinion! Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see what you do next!

Aside from the lack of minor details in the department of animation such as momentum and few clunky looking movement. The amount of details in the art department is just astronomically astounding. I almost felt like I was watching the astartes series at the beginning. Truly a masterpiece worthy to stand with Helsreach, Death of hope, and Astartes among the WH40k fan animations. Yeah it's the momentum that needs to be mastered to get to astartes level but definitely at the start hallway grenade sequence that was brilliant.
So, I thought that at first, but these aren't ninjas. The more I saw, the more accurate it became. Both of the weapons were two handed, and they were both being wielded with one hand.
Go grab a 30lb metal rod that is 5ft long and hold it at the center, then swing it around a bit to strike something. It actually looks EXACTLY like it does in this. Short movements, jabs, minor twists, parry is easy, though, since that requires the least strength to accomplish. I've used both two handed greatswords and two handed war hammers that are historically accurate. The khorne guy has something ahistorical, but only in the dimensions of the hammer part, which is usually more like a real hammer in size. The spike is correct. Obviously the greatsword requires less strength to use, but the chaos marine makes up for his heavier weapon with more strength and a center grip.
Yes, its fictional, but two medieval knights would fight with the exact same moves if they had appropriately scaled weapons. It just looks fake because it isn't cinematic, so we never actually see it. Check out Scholargladitoria, Shadiversity, Metatron, or anyone they recommend if you want the real shit. HEMA, Historic European Martial Arts.

@@GabrielChristtiane Hey just FYI to add to his coment, if you have a 30 series RTX card it is capable of motion capture for animation (if it is available on day 1); that will remove some of the "stiffness" in the animating and make it more realistic.

The SPARTAN-III program had even more moral problems, but at the very least when the UNSC made them (and NOT ONI) they gave those who they deemed suitable for the project the element of choice. Many were expendable and were available because they were War Orphans, but at least the UNSC gave them the choice to walk away or seek vengeance and defend humanity, highlighting that once you say yes, you can't exit the program.
A perfect example of the Hope within the Darkess that is the 40K universe! I loved it dude!

Incredibly well done. That texture work is next level, the voice acting is impactful in the case of the Templar and creepy in the case of the Word Bearer, and the melee combat is really well choreographed. Looking forward to seeing more. Thanks for putting this out there.

I know everyone always says stuff like this, but the weight of the items is so accurate. A bolter firing a coke can sized round, a grenade being tossed like a wiffle ball by an 8ft superhuman soldier.
I nearly shed tears at how, in his lowest moment, he kept the faith. Truly awesome stuff. Instant sub and will recommend this to others

Damn dude that was legendary AF, is it just me or are these fan made shorts getting as good if not better in a lot of ways than animations made by some of the biggest names in the industry, Gabriel Christtiane (anyone and everyone else involved) keep up the amazing work. You never know who'll be inspired amongst all the thousands and thousands of people that see this, maybe the next great storyteller even, maybe the one that finally makes us a kick ass live action WH40K full length movie, a boy can dream can't I.

Now imagine this with professional dubbing. It would jump from a solid 9 to a hard 10. Amazing work, incredible art and honestly great animation for the most part. The effect on the Word Bearer's Mouthpiece was perfectly creepy. Loved it when the Emperor's Voice came from the statue.

I actually like the dub as it is, these are soldiers, breed to kill and die killing, not for fancy speeches, so its quite realistic that their voice and speech is just a little clumsy and it doesn´t lose one bit of emotivity.

I like how the Word Bearer's grill is moving at 5:19 and again at 6:03 as it matches how chaos space marine's armor can warp with one's body and.... well pretty much become apart of it

For an amateur fan animation this was really well done
Fantastic animation, solid script. The scenes were immersive with the beautiful Gothic imagery and the sparse lighting. The armor festooned with religious iconography was a great touch. The action was paced well, the dialogue was performed well, and the script was true to the spirit of the characters.
I loved this video. It was bittersweet and redolent with energy that comes from self-sacrifice, as should be about a story of the sons of Dorn.

Dude this was so cool to watch. The boom of the bolters in the confined space was brilliant, the iron halo lighting up when the Emperor heard the prayer, really nice work! I'm hoping we'll see more from you too in the future.

@@Saintphoenix86 that’s the bench mark and I was one his first 500 subs. Issue with a started is you have 4 1 min pieces, part 5s a lot longer. This is 13 mins. As to astartes, if you watch pet 3, look at the camera work and compare that to this, and the sound, it’s on par

The Pros:
Amazing scenery
Texture work is spot on
Models look great along with the designs
Sound Design to an extent sounds goods
Grimness and darkness, liked that little twist on the fallen hero head cliche
Cinematography was good but could also do some work with it feeling a bit more fluid rather than a stiff rail line.
Choreography is passable but could do some with some work, best do that in practice with your cinematography.
The Cons:
The movement is a bit too static, it doesn't have that natural fluid nature to it but rather moves from one pose, stop, then to the next pose.
Voice Acting can be described best as mumbling, i mean no disrespect but maybe boost the audio a little? Maybe try and normalize the volume of your voice lines to your music so people can hear them better.
Audio mixing is very sudden, one minute someone is speaking and then a nanosecond later we got this super pumped music piece out of nowhere. No sort of fade in or build up or anything to allow it to link better.
Apparently theirs meant to be a plot? What plot?
That end part of the fight feels like a anime, suddenly able to kill three marines no problem but prior was getting his ass beat like his enemy was just their to toy with him. All cause of this unknown super power that comes when the hero needs it cliche.
Conclusion:
I feel the passion and i'll give it a A for effort but honestly, i feel you may need to bring in a second person to help with sound and video editing and to act as a second voice when discussing how you wish to present the animation and such. Overall, i'd say the animation is C grade, not great, not bad, nothing like Astartes but nothing to a gmod animation so hopefully you take this criticism with a grain of salt.

That sick ass knife throw at the end bothers me lol. Traitor SM should have survived that. And yeah the movement is too stiff kinda takes me off the immersion. Its unfair to compare this to Astartes but aspiring WH40k content creators should learn from that.
@@jorgeoaa I was comparing it on a quality scale with Astartes being the top thing that you basically cannot beat and a gmod animation is well, rock bottem, or as low as you can get for all i know. I was claiming his animation to be in the middle ground of the two qualities.
You could try doing a casting call for voice actors, I'm sure the community would love to be part of something this damn good!
I really loved it but I agree with the comment, the sound design could use some work but I loved the "wanna try rolling again?" Part shit cracked me the hell up🤣🤣🤣
I'd like to add my opinion in terms of cons, as the pros line up with what you said.
Much of the combat lacks impact because there is a severe lack of vfx.
Not even showing damaged armor or injuries, the act of clashing itself miss some realism.
There is no sparkles when swords clash, bo dust raised on rubble scattered around when these mighty warriors clad in heavy ceramite crash against walls or fall to the ground.
The way they are displayed currently, you are just showing two objects aligned next to each other, without no clear sign of how much strength is put behind the blows.
Hope I rendered my idea and that ot might be useful.
10/10 in terms of effort though, the emperor protects!
The animations were a little clunky and the voice could do with a little work, but the visuals were absolutely stunning! Seriously this is some of the best lighting and character models I have ever seen, on par with Astartes and DoH in my opinion! Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see what you do next!
