"This is your co-captain speaking-and I've got a question. Have you ever wondered how we made it this far? I mean-we're not the smartest or the strongest or the bravest or the best. We don't have the most firepower or the largest army or the fastest ships. And God knows we're not natural bedfellows. I mean think about it-an archivist, a retired mnemosurgeon, a gunsmith, an archaeologist, a waste disposal expert, a quantum mechanic, a poet, a watchmaker, a barkeep... it shouldn't work-but it does. And it works because we've got one thing in common. Each other. Think of who's listening to this message and I bet you'll think of someone you respect. Someone whose judgement you trust. Someone who makes you laugh. Someone who makes you happy. Someone who makes you feel its okay to be exactly who you are. And I promise-in fact, I guarantee-that someone listening to this is thinking about you in exactly the same way. Okay, so you've made some bad decisions. You've hurt people. You've hurt yourself. You've stumbled through life from one self-inflicted disaster to the next without anything even approaching a plan. To which I say-welcome aboard. Maybe you're not good... but you're sure as hell good enough."

Packed and all eyes turned in, no one to see on the quay No one waving for me, just the shoreline receding Ticket in my hand, I'm thinking "Wish I didn't hand it in" 'Cause who said sailing is fine? Leaving behind all the faces That I might replace, if I tried on that long ride Looking deep inside but I don't want to look so deep inside yet Sit down, sit down on the prow to wave bye There might not be another star further on the line Look out, look out at each town that glides by And there's another crowd to drown in crying eyes And see how that light you love now just won't shine There might just be another star that's high and far in some other sky We sing, "Is that marionette real enough yet To step off of that set to decide what her hands might be doing? Ruining the play, to in the ensuing melee escape" We packed up all of our bags The ship's deck now sags from the weight of our tracks As we pace beneath flags black and battered Rattling our swords in service of some faded foreign lord And we sail out on orders from him but we find The maps he sent to us don't mention lost coastlines Where nothing we've actually seen has been mapped or outlined For we don't recognize the names upon these signs And every night finds us rocking and rolling on waves wild and wide Well, we have lost our way, nobody's gonna say it outright Just go la la la-la-la-la la-la-la-la La-la la-la-la la-la-la la Oh-oh oh
I haven't listened to this band in a while. Reminds me of my college days. For whatever reason this song popped in my head today. Specifically those parts with the baritone singer. People with baritone voices don't get enough opportunities to shine in pop music. PS I'm pretty sure I met one of these guys in Dallas at some art show or local film deal.
I watched y'all live in Austin. I still have the cd I bought at the show! This song will play at my mom's memorial because you really can't account for lost coast lines!!!
This is such a great song about changes, and generally just the unpredictability of life. There is a certain sadness to it, especially at the start, but overall, it is quite optimistic. The maps don't help, as we are always in uncharted territory, but we'll just keep going on, no matter what, as there are a lot of things to explore out there. I think it might be one of my favorite songs.
You guys are getting me through the worse brake up in existence...! My heart is completely broken and I wish I was dead atm but this song is keeping me alive ☹️

I laugh so loud over that line when i read it for the first time....
Ayy other tf fans
This song and this band are one of my favorite now I just discovered them on Spotify a few weeks ago 🇵🇭
Packed and all eyes turned in, no one to see on the quay
No one waving for me, just the shoreline receding
Ticket in my hand, I'm thinking "Wish I didn't hand it in"
'Cause who said sailing is fine?
Leaving behind all the faces
That I might replace, if I tried on that long ride
Looking deep inside but I don't want to look so deep inside yet
Sit down, sit down on the prow to wave bye
There might not be another star further on the line
Look out, look out at each town that glides by
And there's another crowd to drown in crying eyes
And see how that light you love now just won't shine
There might just be another star that's high and far in some other sky
We sing, "Is that marionette real enough yet
To step off of that set to decide what her hands might be doing?
Ruining the play, to in the ensuing melee escape"
We packed up all of our bags
The ship's deck now sags from the weight of our tracks
As we pace beneath flags black and battered
Rattling our swords in service of some faded foreign lord
And we sail out on orders from him but we find
The maps he sent to us don't mention lost coastlines
Where nothing we've actually seen has been mapped or outlined
For we don't recognize the names upon these signs
And every night finds us rocking and rolling on waves wild and wide
Well, we have lost our way, nobody's gonna say it outright
Just go la la la-la-la-la la-la-la-la
La-la la-la-la la-la-la la
Oh-oh oh

Omg listen to Rooks by Shearwater, if you haven’t already. It’s the baritone singer. Love him 🥰 ruclips.net/video/6pfTXtyiZLs/видео.html

This song is best for a robot roadtrip comedy tv series....
I only feel joy when I hear this.
Okkervil River is apparently very popular in the Robot Kingdom
Hahaha for the Saga reference, but I came here because of Lost Light and the Cybertronians...
Not in that. But in IDW Transformers
I winder how it took me so long to ever hear this band. Great stuff!
seeing Travis' smile is bittersweet RIP
I was just thinking the same thing. Seemed like a happy guy.
@@leejay1936 Trav had the most infectious laugh!

favorite singalong of all time for me
This was our senior week beach song in 2009, weird choice but it felt light along with Unless it's kicks
Great song…another one in Chuck’s soundtrack!!…
Such a great song I think I came across it via I turns back when they gave away a song each week…. Happy to be corrected
Can't believe they edited out the best 'la la' part from the album version. A shame.
I belted and scared myself cause I was expecting those la’s
So is this what they did to Dominus Ambus?
NOOOOOO!
LMAAAOOOO
I love that guy's smoother Johnny Cash voice.
This is just brilliant!
50% of the comments: Dang this song slaps.
the other 50%: WHAT DO WE DO!? WE KILL 'CONS!
The music is so beatiful but the clip is so sad, why?
Anyone hearing Disco 2000 - Pulp at 3:03 onward?
