"Songs not to hear when you don't want to get nostalgic about the 2010s" (TikTok video with me pointing this text over my head and then another angle showing me pointing in the air awkwardly)
IDK about all of the 2010s, but the early 2010s were some of the best years of my life with all my friends and good times. Now I'm 30, literally over half my friends are dead and the other half I barely speak to bc of just life. Id give anything to go go back.
This song is a whole vibe. Its literally the feeling of nostalgia, freedom, excitement, anxiety, adventure, love, hate, motivation, depression, alllllllll wrapped in one.
Midnight City is one of those timeless tracks that takes you on a journey every time you listen to it. M83's blend of dreamy synths and soaring vocals in this song is simply mesmerizing. The nostalgic and surreal visuals in the official video perfectly capture the sense of freedom, adventure, and longing that makes this track so special. It’s more than just a song-it's an experience.
This song gives me a weird nostalgic feeling, like I'm free and i can do whatever i want. Like the world is mine. No law, no sadness, no anger. Just you and your friends living. Edit: I'm so happy people think the same way! Makes me feel less alone :)

There's some songs that give me a feeling I can't quite put my finger on. It's a bittersweet feeling, a mix of nostalgia, happiness, sadness, friendship, good and bad memories compressed into one. This is one of those songs
i agree that the alto sax solo is amazing, it was a honorable mention in top 10 saxophone solos in pop and rock, number 1 being Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty
It was 2012 and I used to race all around FairHaven city in NFS Most Wanted 2012. This song takes me back to those good old days when I was was so free, had so much free time on hand and I could just do whatever I want. This is so nostalgic
Especially when you just finished story mode and starting to move to online. This makes me so sad. The ending was so good. That was my favorite game. The other gta endings didn’t hit the spot. This just brings back nostalgia from when I was on my Xbox all day driving around as Michael Trevor or franklin. I ended up killing Trevor. What a sad moment :/
When it’s nighttime in game and you approach Los Santos through the Vinewood hills and see the city beautifully lit up and dazzling with the lights of the cars
*when I got my first job last year ..I used to play this at fridays afternoon in the office...just before leaving... now every time I listen this, it reminds me weekend and a happy time in my life*
ajulianj Best thing you can do with music is attribute it to happy times such as weekends, so it will never fail to make you feel good, even when it's not a weekend.
This song man, hitting nostalgic to the days when everyone was younger having no clue about how fucked up life is nowadays. When you listen to this, it brings you back the feeling you builded up everytime you heard this on gta or any other way. Memories, they just hurt and feel the best at the fucking same time.
This song brings a memory that you can’t quite remember but it still gives you emotions that feel your heart and your soul and sometimes wanna make you cry, later maybe a decade or maybe two you’re gonna remember this song and you burst into tears then your companion or if you’re single will ask you if you’re OK you say yes but deep inside you want to go back to October 16, 2011. Thank you for your time
This song makes me want to hang out in the big city at night with couple of friends. Having fun, no responsibilities at all, wild and free. Now there's this disease spreading like a wildfire and I have to stay in this small town.
Like the all days, you can just stay up midnight, chillin with the bois, have a cold one, maybe smoke one or two cigarettes. Still remember those days.
My god, 2024 .... I'm literally AGING with this. It's been burned into my heart and soul for many years. It hits me like a brick every time I listen to it. I fall apart every time. ... The City is My Church.
This feels like it should be in the ending scene of a movie where the protagonist drives off in the middle of the night, finally found his peace and eventually smiles because he found himself after being lost for so long.
This was truly one of the best videos I've ever seen. I felt so at peace seeing the end of it.....unfortunately if you have seen the sequel video to this, you know these kids do not live happily ever after as this video implies. It really puts a damper on things when I watch it now -_-
Night time, downtown expressway... Doing 99 in a recommended 60....nothing more surreal. I swear this has to be everyone's nighttime city driving song.
I'll never forget when I first heard this song it was late 2011 or 2012 and I was having a alone kind of night and mindset where I didn't call any of my friends to hang out. It was late on Saturday and I just wanted to be with my thoughts so I drove downtown to New Orleans from Metairie. I cruised around downtown New Orleans then headed uptown and this song came on and it was perfect just pure perfect. I can't put into words the sense of feeling I had listening to this while driving around the city with my windows down having a smoke enjoying the cool air. Might sound cheesy but the song just like took me to a whole different mindset that I still can't explain when I hear it.
The sound of Midnight City makes you feel like you are driving down an empty city at 3am, pitch black on the borders with the only source of light in the main street being the lit up billboards from the skyscrapers surrounding you, looming over with their colossal size and the few cars which are still on the road. Like there are millions of opportunities to take all in that one night.
This is why in old people's homes they sometimes play old 50s or 60s music to old people with Alzheimer's or dementia, and you see them start to move and smile, because the music makes them remember of good times when they were young. Music is powerful stuff

Picks up the song so amazingly at the end. You also know that its over but what a way to go!
i agree that the alto sax solo is amazing, it was a honorable mention in top 10 saxophone solos in pop and rock, number 1 being Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty
absolutely the best part of the song all I can say is goosebumps
+William Allison Really? So what is the one that appears here called?
It was 2012 and I used to race all around FairHaven city in NFS Most Wanted 2012. This song takes me back to those good old days when I was was so free, had so much free time on hand and I could just do whatever I want. This is so nostalgic
I FINALLY FOUND THE SONG THAT HAS BEEN LIVING IN MY HEAD SINCE I WAS 8
Congrats bruv.
@Amy Macdonald I liked the song bc of nfs lol
Me too i think so
damn sucks when you forget the title of a song, or can hear the song play out but can't remember the artist or anything.
SAME 😭
those late night drives on GTA hit different
All the memories man 😂
Especially when you just finished story mode and starting to move to online.
😆💀💀
especially in quarantine hahahah
*when I got my first job last year ..I used to play this at fridays afternoon in the office...just before leaving... now every time I listen this, it reminds me weekend and a happy time in my life*
ajulianj Best thing you can do with music is attribute it to happy times such as weekends, so it will never fail to make you feel good, even when it's not a weekend.
no one cares
want some fries to go with that cancer,Mypholion?
Hardline Gamer just follow the damn train.. CJ
Thats awesome
It’s got that sweet, nostalgic 80s sound. An instant classic.
This song man, hitting nostalgic to the days when everyone was younger having no clue about how fucked up life is nowadays. When you listen to this, it brings you back the feeling you builded up everytime you heard this on gta or any other way. Memories, they just hurt and feel the best at the fucking same time.
Yes same Its just like aaaa i wanna go back soooo badly but at the same time I don’t want to change anything
now life IS gta
Have you heard the other 2 songs in this series? Those hit DIFFERENT.
Fucking same guts ❤️❤️❤️ what a time to feel.
@UCq-fD2ZN6MlTQSwFd3RUbog 17, and really sensitive to nostaligia.
This song still makes me feel nostalgic over something that didn’t happen
It do be like that sometimes

This song brings a memory that you can’t quite remember but it still gives you emotions that feel your heart and your soul and sometimes wanna make you cry, later maybe a decade or maybe two you’re gonna remember this song and you burst into tears then your companion or if you’re single will ask you if you’re OK you say yes but deep inside you want to go back to October 16, 2011. Thank you for your time
Why is is this true
This comment hit hard ngl
@@mattruiz8801 thanks bro 🙏
It’s nostalgia, and it hits hard.
that's exactly how this song feels like
This song will go down in the history books. It'll be listened to for centuries
I should have found this song years back- THIS is what colors sound like..
Welcome aboard!
My dad always used to listen to it, and it just brings waves of nostalgia
@@quintenspara2108 this song just brings a different feeling
@The Shield ah, another man of culture
This song makes me want to hang out in the big city at night with couple of friends. Having fun, no responsibilities at all, wild and free. Now there's this disease spreading like a wildfire and I have to stay in this small town.
Man, me and the boys are moving to a big city when we're older to chase our dreams, and you described the feeling of this song perfectly
That’s my type of vibe
Like the all days, you can just stay up midnight, chillin with the bois, have a cold one, maybe smoke one or two cigarettes. Still remember those days.
This song reminds me good old GTA V when there weren't kids with depressor II
I guess that’s why they call it “Midnight City”.
This is the kind of song you can’t tell if it came out last month or 10 years ago...
really timeless music
Or in the 80s. I love the 80s come back via music since 2010.
Agreed
Curtid Farmer same here man
True
My god, 2024 .... I'm literally AGING with this. It's been burned into my heart and soul for many years. It hits me like a brick every time I listen to it. I fall apart every time. ... The City is My Church.
This feels like it should be in the ending scene of a movie where the protagonist drives off in the middle of the night, finally found his peace and eventually smiles because he found himself after being lost for so long.
Lol yes
Or the sun's about to go down that would be cool too
The end of the movie drive
Thats literally steven universe future ending
This was truly one of the best videos I've ever seen. I felt so at peace seeing the end of it.....unfortunately if you have seen the sequel video to this, you know these kids do not live happily ever after as this video implies. It really puts a damper on things when I watch it now -_-
After all these years. This song still gets me, still makes me dream of the future.. Thank you m83
Same
I love nearly all their music, I wish there was more music like this, do you or anyone else have any suggestions?
@@lanewebb1328 The Midnight, Gunship, LeBrock, FM-84, Kavinsky.
oh
yeah.
Nothing hits different more than when you’re cruising around Los Santos and this comes on
Black Air Forces same brother... lol
Black Air Forces nothing hits more than your profile pic and your name :(
Especially when its night and you're going through downtown.
Night time, downtown expressway... Doing 99 in a recommended 60....nothing more surreal. I swear this has to be everyone's nighttime city driving song.
Hell yeah
This song and "Counting Stars" give off the weirdest vibe and it's not even possible to explain
*_E_*
Willie Wilson ONG
Bro they have like the same vibe. You just want to lay there and have them on repeat
Non existant nostalgia
@@benkearney4021 it's not even that, watch "Earth to Echo" and you'll see how this song just fits perfectly with the movie

I’ve heard this song a bunch of times but never knew the name. Really nice of RUclips to recommend this so I can finally know
The sound of Midnight City makes you feel like you are driving down an empty city at 3am, pitch black on the borders with the only source of light in the main street being the lit up billboards from the skyscrapers surrounding you, looming over with their colossal size and the few cars which are still on the road. Like there are millions of opportunities to take all in that one night.
what a huge comment
@@oliverflorez7262 I've seen bigger ngl.
I will do that.
Wow 🤩 adjectives on point
Try gta v
The nostalgia is overwhelming.
Why does music do this to us?
it truly is just an emotion that’s impossible to describe
for real
o.o
This is why in old people's homes they sometimes play old 50s or 60s music to old people with Alzheimer's or dementia, and you see them start to move and smile, because the music makes them remember of good times when they were young. Music is powerful stuff
to evaluate one of the Human feelings
That saxophone at the end hits hard
Thats synthwave feel.
Goosebumps.
Facts best part
Check out the sax solo from their live performance in Germany. It's streets ahead of the studio version.
