“With the rising price of cocaine”. That was the first time anyone made a remark that really could kill me. Gotta say it - you kill me. Seriously, you made a great video here.
Had to rewind & turn on captions for that one. Either his sharp, dry sense of humor or simply a Scottish accent on “cooking”. (But I think likely the former.) 🙃
This channel is one of my favourites. George is calm, relaxed, humble, there are no cringy gimmicks, great content and a cute cat! Winning combination in my opinion. Glad to see the success.
George, you deserve all of your success. You've a lovely personality and speaking style. We know that it just didn't fall into your lap, you've worked hard, and learned through others and from the lessons that have come to you. Give my love to Junior ! He just wants to be in on the fun 😼 You seem to be really sensible financially as well, certain that you learned that at a young age.
It’s really the combination of the Scottish countryside, your marvellous accent, your pleasant personality, and particularly your sense of humour, that makes your videos so delightful to watch. Glad you are thriving. Carry on.
George's channel has an uncanny blend of occasional useful information, envy-inducing monetary success, cute cat scenes, and deadpan jokes. The best bit is he's doesn't seem to take any of it very seriously!
I think I know what you mean by saying he doesn’t take things seriously. It doesn’t all go toward being pompous. He simply uses his intelligence and isn’t afraid of work and risks.
Sorry but I disagree, I bet he takes it very seriously but doesn't let it show. I think he is a very sensitive and sensible young man and I wish him well.
@@millywood6801 Yes, I agree with you. I am sure he takes it seriously, deeper down. My comment was really on his presentation style. Most creators come at you with freight train like enthusiasm. Its tiring and often just boring claptrap. This chap has a personal style that's very laid back and endearing. He's someone I'd happily have a beer with.
The all-knowing algorithm brought me here. Not quite sure why but that's not for us mere mortals to know. I am very much aware of how hard it is for me to talk to a camera and admire the amazing facility with which you do it. Because of you, every medical student-viewer at Edinburgh (and your other great medical schools) has undoubtedly researched the association between piebaldism, absent lateral eyebrows and systemic disease. Happily, you don't seem to fulfill any of the important criteria. But thought you'd find it amusing that they are looking at your eye color, joints, etc. You are motivating them to read and that's always a good thing.
Hope you all find this interesting and/or helpful (if you're thinking about ways to make money on RUclips). Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to respond. :)
Yeah, I have question: What video editing software do you use? I've invested so much in other passive online incomes - that I cannot afford to move off of IMovie, which is very limiting. Like you, I'm giving myself 6 months. I've got Amazon KDP brewing and growing...finally just started my Amazon Affiliate Program, and as I stated before - I started and AI youtube channel. I'd like the editing process to be more professional - but Imovie just isn't all that.
after some thinking i have a question. why you don't use shorts that much? won't it help to grow your channel? and yes.. i'm craving more content from you 😅
George you SERIOUSLY need to think about setting up a Pension. As you state about 71k of your income is taxable. You could have put 21k into a pension and then only be liable for tax on 50k. Get your accountant to do some tax planning.
Well done on last year's success. It's nice to see someone talented, who is humble and kind and who hasn't sold out/become fake like so many other youtubers/influencers. I love your relaxing and humorous style
As you’re self-employed, your income may not be regular, so it might not work well under PAYE (pay as you earn). The payment on account method bases future payments on historical actuals, so it can create a degree of regularity. An alternative is to look into setting up your own company. This is not as complicated as it appears to be, but depending on the type of company, you will have reporting and filing requirements. Well, you already have those via self-assessment. Another way to reduce your tax bill is to pay into a personal pension plan. Pension schemes are a tax-efficient way to save for retirement - which you’ll be able to access as early as age 55 (or 57 when the gov’t changes the rules). They’re tax-efficient because you don’t pay tax on your pension contributions at the time of making them. When you retire you will be able to access 25% of the pension pot tax-free, and the remaining 75% you’ll likely be a basic rate tax payer, paying 20% tax on the drawdown above your personal allowance - where right now you are a higher rate tax payer, with 40% of your money above £50k going up in tax. Hopefully, you can see that 20% tax, years from now, on 75% of your pension pot is likely to be less tax than 40% every year now while you’re of working age. That’s income tax. If you invest your money, you’ll want to avoid capital gains tax, and a simple way to do that is to invest via an ISA each year. You can invest/save £20k per tax year and all the gains are tax-free. If you go this route, make sure you set up an ISA with low fees. Fees can really eat into gains. I signed up to Trading 212 as it has the lowest fees in this tax year and I like their simple investment pies, but, of course, do your own research. Year to year you can move your ISAs, but don’t withdraw them. Instead, you have to fill in a transfer form with the new ISA provider. A lot of people forget this and they screw up how much they can save each year. Another fun fact: The April to April year is the government’s tax year and it relates to income tax. The government’s corporation tax year, for example, is March to March. So the government’s financial year (corp tax) is a little different to its tax year (income tax). Many other tax territories are based on calendar year. If you set yourself up as a limited company, the profits would be subject to corporation tax. If your company paid you a salary, your salary would still be subject to income tax and national insurance contributions. This is where you’ll need to do the sums. If your company becomes an employer, it will have to run a payroll, file monthly under RTI (real time information) and the company will also need to pay employer’s national insurance (13.8% of the gross salary bill - after the secondary threshold of £9.1K is deducted. You can find all tax rates and thresholds on the gov. uk website). Tax doesn’t have to be taxing :) Let me know if you have any questions.
this is great advice Dan, can i ask for a web developer making £70-100k on a side hustle would the advice be the same, does the advice differ when selling products to and dealing with the public?
@@projectDominicNot sure if you got an answer on this but the answer is probably yes, but it depends on what your financial goals are (for example, what do you want to do about private pension contributions). I recommend speaking to an accountant who can crunch the numbers for you and give you options depending on what you want to do (and it is also an expense which you can claim against your income :) )
@@projectDominic one difference might be vat registration, which is optional under a certain amount but compulsory above (i think) 85k pa. If you don’t have that many expenses it could be detrimental to be registered. Maybe consider using a different company per website.

Great useful information - thank you. Unfortunately, not many of us have your personality and aura, which is why most of us watch you, I believe, but thanks for sharing your experience on this. When you become a hairdresser, you definitely need to do a hair channel.
You seem like a humble, kind and well-intentioned person. I am definitely interested in your RUclips course! Thank you for all the great advice- looking forward to checking out more of your videos.
You are a natural in front of the camera and you do a terrific job on your vid production. Good for you! As long as you are enjoying what you’re doing keep creating and trying new things. 😊
George, your videos are so helpful! Thanks for sharing the story of your home transformation. I wanted to share that my husband & I recently had a carpet runner installed in our front interior stairs (we live in a second floor flat) -- and I love that the stairs are now much more comfortable, less noisy when people walk on them -- and they are so much SAFER! We can still see the beautiful oak flooring on either side of the carpet. The carpet runner has a border on either side -- and as a result the visual effect is to emphasize that these are STAIRS. As you pointed out in your videos, stairs can be slippery and potentially hazardous. Thank you for sharing this important point and sharing your own slipping experience. And thank you for your videos, which are so useful and also enjoyable to watch!

It's great to see how you've diversified your income sources through affiliate marketing, sponsorships, and merchandise. Your tips on how to manage your finances and plan for the future are valuable for anyone looking to become self-employed. Heya George, great video as always! re: the payments on accounts, your payment in Jan 24 will be the first estimated half of your 23-24 tax bill, the tax year we're currently in, then the second will be in July 24, just slightly after the 23-24 Tax year ended, then finally if anything futher is due you'd be expected to pay it by Jan 25. If you're anticipating for your 23-24 earnings to be less than last year it's worth stating this to HMRC so your 2 requested payments in Jan & Jul are more aligned and you don't end up overpaying and asking for a refund.
Omg you can recite a phone book and I’d be listening to you. You have such a gentleness and peaceful presence about you. Thank you for sharing all your helpful tips!
Hey George, thanks for not pushing your RUclips course too much, as you said “quietly leaving it in the description”. I personally think it’s this type of video which is the perfect time to mention it because people with ‘like interests’ would be watching. Basically what I’m trying to say is that you read your audience pretty well and I appreciate your videos :)
The first time I came across your channel was when you brought up the cottage and how you got interior designers to give you advice on your home. I thought wow you really did your homework. Since then I have only come back just to see what you are up to. I think your channel is great and has ace content because it is something a lot of people can relate to. I love how humble you are especially when it comes to you having a course that I never knew of. I will definitely be checking that one out.
Hi George. Regarding payment on account,It might be worth talking to your accountant about possibly becoming a limited company. There also a few other advantages. They will be able to tell you if this would be advantageous in your case. Enjoyed the video 👍
You're definitely onto a good thing. The money comes in but you don't have to worry about a boss bothering you or watching the clock. So good to take time off whenever you want
Hey bud, I just wanted to say that out of all the videos I've watched on making a career from RUclips. Well, trying in my case. Yours really got me. Your manner, super dry humour, and personality is refreshing to see. You deserve all the success after all your hard work. After a lack of motivation, self-belief, and creativity lately, you've put a smile on my face and feeling good. Thank you for that. It's time to believe and start smashing it👊
I'm so very happy for you George.. I've seen you pop up occasionally and kind of knew who you were, but.. after watching this video I've subscribed.. I'd love to leave my miserable, stressful job. I'm 55 and had enough. Inspired 🌹
Your authenticity and forthright nature to share your journey of breaking free from a traditonal slotted time job, is inspirational. Also, hopefully Junior will get a new feline friend soon. More power to you George!
Love your honesty and your willingness to share knowledge learned! You will be blessed for this❤️ This world needs more men (humans!) like you-thank you.
Your cat is so cute!!!! I also have vitiligo tooooo and hoping to do RUclips full time ❤ your videos are super inspiring- I currently live in the middle of nowhere so I’m finding it super hard!
Delighted for you, George! You’ve worked hard to make your channel as successful as it is. You deserve to enjoy the rewards of your efforts. Wishing you continued success! (And very sensible to diversify your revenue sources.) Another “fun” little note: in the USA, we can also claim a home office deduction on our tax returns, if applicable. However, that deduction is known to be an “audit magnet.” 😮😮 For what little it might save relative to the amount of work it takes to document it, plus an almost guaranteed audit, well…
This is very helpful thank you George. Here in the States, for the self employed, even if you work from home there are certain expenses you cannot deduct because the usage cannot be confirmed, unless you work in a separate structure. I've seen so many RUclipsrs have to scale back their ambitions because of their taxes. Glad to see you doing so well!
You are successful in part to your great personality and humor. Respectful, articulate, very smart is some of what I see when watching you. Keep up the great work! I love Junior! 🥰
I am an old woman....I just found youtube...anything else is a bridge too far. You have done well with the intelligence you were given......be proud of making money basically from thin air.
I recently discovered you and enjoy your content very much. My sister has been wanting to start a RUclips channel but just hasn't made the leap. I'm going to show her this and your digital program. I believe it will help her start her dream. We also both love tiny houses, renovations, and, of course, cats! And I have debilitating anxiety. Thanks much for sharing your info and life with us all :)
Really enjoyed this - it's all new to me! Yes, please do make a video of the other channel and of the things that failed. I think we often learn more from things that failed than things that worked. And I think you could make a channel for Junior - her success stor-, considering how often she is mentioned in the comments. Take care of yourself
Good on you George well done. I really enjoyed your house renovation videos as I'm a English builder living in Thailand. Once again hat's off to you buddy 🙏🙏🙏
I'm so impressed with your creativity and the way you address challenges. Besides, your videos are simply enjoyable. Thanks! Also, as far as i know, the more people comment the more youtube recognizes you -- financially?
You should sell merch with your kitty on it! That´s another easy stream of income. I use Spring. I saw your review of your kitty and really enjoyed it! God bless!
Congratulations, George. Not everyone can succeed at RUclips. I certainly could not. This type of employment will probably increase in the future. Thank you for being upfront about finances is quite rare in RUclips
How things have changed. When the YT partnership program first started I had a channel on which I posted Microsoft tutorials. Part of the YT contract was that we were not allowed to tell anybody how much money we made through YT.
In the US, we also have to make 'Payments on Account' if you aren't witholding enough tax throughout the year. It's called 'Estimated Tax' here in the US. We do an AirBnB, and this past year, we didn't pay enough tax, so we're having to send Estimated Tax payments this year... Blergh...
You’ve just gained one subscription. I loved the content and the way you narrate whilst remaining calm and well composed. Will like to hear more on what had become of your other RUclips channels. Can’t wait for the next upload 😊
Thank you for the video, it’s always interesting to have a behind the scenes peek into this really interesting career, or field, or whatever this RUclips thing is :) Also, I’m really happy for all the success you’ve been getting recently, amazing to see your rapid transformation from a small channel to a very sizable one! Great job, man! P.S. please do the video talking about your other channels/ventures, and if you’re comfortable please share some of the failure stories. A lot can be learned from those, sometimes even more than from the successful ones.
Thank you! Glad you found it all interesting. And I think I will share the story of my successes which turned to failures. I'd hope others could learn from my mistakes.
Yeh id like this as well. I know i've heard mention of other channels before, no idea if they are still a thing but would be interested to know what they are :)
Beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. By the way, I chuckled when I realized that your cat and you, you two have the same color scheme. really, really cool. 😁 Much love. 🍀🙏
@George - if you are not using a tax consultant, you should at this point. It's entirely possible that you DON'T need to pay on account (they used to make me do this, and the tax consultant filled in a nice sheet for HMRC explaining that I didn't need to). Congratulations on your rapid rise!
Thanks for your wisdom! I enjoy watching your videos, and your voice is soooooo soothing. I can listen to it all day! Well done for all that you have achieved. Regarding the tax payment on account thing, sadly it is just how HMRC (UK's version of the IRS) works. For taxpayers who self-assess i.e. trading in their own capacity and not as an incorporated company, they make one payment on account (50% of previous trading year's tax liability - used as a guide to come up with a number) during the tax year by 31 Jan, then another payment on account (the other 50% of previous trading year's tax liability - again used as a guide to come up with a number) by 31 July after the end of the tax year (5 April). If the 31 Jan and 31 July payments combined is less than your calculated tax liability for the tax year that ended on 5 April, you will be required to make a balancing payment in the following year by 31 Jan. Each payment on account is 50% of the previous tax year's liability, after giving credit for tax already paid at source, such as PAYE. If the 31 Jan and 31 July payments add up to more than your calculated tax liability for the tax year that ended on 5 April, you can claim a refund but sadly I don't know the details of how to go about this. No doubt your accountant knows! So, potentially, by/on any 31 Jan, you could be paying (1) a payment on account for the *current* year (based on 50% of the previous year's liability) and (2) a balancing payment for the *previous* year if applicable. All in all, HMRC makes sure that it has staged chunks of payments made to it throughout the year! If you have made losses, you can set them against income. Rather tricky to explain with words alone! I draw myself a little chart to visualise the timeline.
Kudos on your success, well deserved. You have such a great sense of humor! Can't wait to see your new kitten, a little pal for Junior. I think a video on your first channel would be interesting.
If you’re reading this and NOT subscribed, please take a second to scroll back up and hit that big juicy subscribe button. I’d really love to hit one billion subscribers and then retire with 92 cats. 🤠

It's great to see how you've diversified your income sources through affiliate marketing, sponsorships, and merchandise. Your tips on how to manage your finances and plan for the future are valuable for anyone looking to become self-employed. This video has given me a fresh perspective on how to turn my passion for creating content into a sustainable income. Thank you for sharing your journey and expertise! 👍💻💰
Super helpful. Thanks for this additional insight
Why pay income tax? Those corrupt politicians and their wives don't pay it.
@@invasion23 relevance?
Good business! Collecting tax revenue before the tax year is over! Chutzpah!
I really appreciate you posting this. I have learned a lot from it and am glad you are financially doing well. You definitely deserve it :)
Yes, George, I would love to hear your 2011 youtube story. I find all your recollections fascinating!
You are awesome, hilarious and personally my favorite Scot, cat owner, and all round decent human being. Congratulations
Long may you run
Haha thank you very much! :)
You forgot to mention if Junior draws a salary for her part in your videos. I'm sure she considers herself to be an important element to any endeavor.
Dependent for tax purposes?
Great to see you again! Thanks for the information too! Hope you are enjoying the Spring Time!
Hi George and Junior !! I really enjoy watching your videos. Stories are very important. Hope all is well there today. Greetings from Montreal.
I've never seen anyone being so honest about this kind of information. It's very refreshing. And your cat is very cute
Agreed!
Hi George. Regarding payment on account,It might be worth talking to your accountant about possibly becoming a limited company. There also a few other advantages. They will be able to tell you if this would be advantageous in your case. Enjoyed the video 👍
Thank you! Always pleasant to see your smiling face and hear your smooth voice!
You're definitely onto a good thing. The money comes in but you don't have to worry about a boss bothering you or watching the clock. So good to take time off whenever you want
I subscribe to around 500 channels. Yours is one of my top 20 favourites. I really enjoy your videos. Keep doing what you're doing. Thank you!
Fair play to you, Patch! ✊🏻You look a lot happier, too. ❤
Thanks Deirdre! Haha glad to hear it. I'm quite happy with everything right now.
It's time to believe and start smashing it👊
Congratulations! You’re a very nice guy and create interesting videos. I’m very happy that you’ve been so successful!
Really enjoyed this dude, found it helpful. Good luck being full time on youtube your gonna smash it
I'm so very happy for you George.. I've seen you pop up occasionally and kind of knew who you were, but.. after watching this video I've subscribed.. I'd love to leave my miserable, stressful job. I'm 55 and had enough. Inspired 🌹
Me too... but 56! 😅
Your authenticity and forthright nature to share your journey of breaking free from a traditonal slotted time job, is inspirational. Also, hopefully Junior will get a new feline friend soon. More power to you George!
one of the few guyw here on yt I really wish all the success
Love your honesty and your willingness to share knowledge learned! You will be blessed for this❤️ This world needs more men (humans!) like you-thank you.
Ah glad you like it! Appreciate ya! :)
Your cat is so cute!!!! I also have vitiligo tooooo and hoping to do RUclips full time ❤ your videos are super inspiring- I currently live in the middle of nowhere so I’m finding it super hard!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and plans with us, you and Junior are two of the most charming RUclipsrs.
Thank you! Haha I'll pass on the kind words to her.
Congratulations on building up your channel. You have worked hard. Long may your success continue.👍
So appreciate your advice! Love that you & your kitty are ginger! Your authenticity and transparency are key to your brand!
You don't come across as boastful bro, very humble and equally helpful!
However, that deduction is known to be an “audit magnet.” 😮😮 For what little it might save relative to the amount of work it takes to document it, plus an almost guaranteed audit, well…
Congratulations!!! Great Job! Wishing you all of the success heading your way!
Love to hear about your 2011 channel! You deserve all the success and prosperity. Love your wit and how well you articulate things 🎉❤
Love your videos George and equally enjoy learning more about your revenue stream related to you tube etc. Congratulations from Canada
Great video. Thanks. Love seeing Junior.
A new kitty is a nice idea but I don't know if Junior will agree 😊
Great video! I really appreciate your humor and insight!
Def. the first channel video. Thanks for everything.
Noted! Thanks for watching. :)
Yes, please tell the story of how you grew a channel and then it stopped working. That is valuable information. Thank you.
I really enjoy all of your video content, Patchy. Please keep up the good work. May God bless you and your family always in your life journey.
Gosh your course is actually affordable not like $500 to $1000. Something I can definitely next paycheck, really appreciate for the affordable price
Wait - - did George say "the cost of food.. fuel.. cocaine?" Hahaha! Love you George!
Ya, did a double take on cocaine. 😂 maybe Jeff Bezos could personally throw him a couple kilos.
Lol same rewinded it
Wow ! I am impressed by this young dude who is well spoken and very transparent. Great video and talent.
God bless!
This is very smart and very helpful. Also I love your humor 😊
I'd love to see that video about your first channel. Your insights are always so good to hear! Love the vid
I am a 62 yr old man and I want to learn from you.
Congratulations on a fabulous job! You have commitment and drive (along with talent)! Great job!
Good seeing you and Junior. Hugs
Thanks Donna! :)
mannn I just wanna make cozy videos and roam the Northumberland hills. You’ve inspired me to get started once I’ve finished my degree next month
Thank you So much for this invaluable guidance! You deserve every bit of success George🙏🏻 Please please share why your first channel failed 🙏🏻
This is a genuinely good guy. He charges a great deal less for content than others do.
Congratulations, George. Not everyone can succeed at RUclips. I certainly could not. This type of employment will probably increase in the future. Thank you for being upfront about finances is quite rare in RUclips
Cheers Frank, appreciate it! And I hope so, it would be nice to keep this going for a good while. It's good fun and quite rewarding.
Nice. Whatever anyone says, doesn’t matter. You worked hard, got things there. That’s what I’m not afraid of, is putting in the work.
How things have changed. When the YT partnership program first started I had a channel on which I posted Microsoft tutorials. Part of the YT contract was that we were not allowed to tell anybody how much money we made through YT.
Love your videos I could listen to you talk all day your voice is very calming 🇬🇧😊
Thank you George!
I plan to start a channel (under a different account) and really appreciate your openness here. It’s very encouraging and inspiring.
I needed to watch this tonight, thanks for your words of wisdom…your future looks v bright..thanks pal!!
Thank you for the video, it’s always interesting to have a behind the scenes peek into this really interesting career, or field, or whatever this RUclips thing is :)
Also, I’m really happy for all the success you’ve been getting recently, amazing to see your rapid transformation from a small channel to a very sizable one!
Congratulations on your rapid rise!
yes, I'd love to hear about your other channels!
Great video showing courtesy and empathy and a degree of humility. Thank you for sharing.
Kudos on your success, well deserved. You have such a great sense of humor! Can't wait to see your new kitten, a little pal for Junior. I think a video on your first channel would be interesting.
