Look how adorable and snuggly he is. I'd cry if he had done that. I wonder how much he'd charge if I could snuggle him while he reads me bedtime story. 😴😴
I resold candy at school. My bus stop was near a 7/11, so on the walk home, I would swing by and get a selection of popular candy. I would sell it for twice the cost. When I went to middle school, my younger brother took over and eventually expanded his business into a small store making tons of money. I underestimated the market. He charged double what I did and expanded his inventory until he actually had some product left after a day. I never had more than 10 items. He sold about 200 every day.. he also eventually had my parents purchasing candy at the base exchange in bulk, so it was very inexpensive, and he sold it for four times the cost at a 7/11, so his profit was HUGE. Since no one ever used his candy as a weapon, it never became a problem, and when a teacher asked him about it, he said he was fundraising for his Judo club. My parents thought it was hilarious, but also “encouraged” him to contribute some treats to the judo club kids on a bus ride to a meet to add legitimacy to his fundraising claim. Trust me, 20 “fun size” snickers bars handed out to a bus load of kids did not even put a dent into one hour of sales in a single day. My failure was never recognizing the potential of my own idea, and being a reluctant sales person for a product everyone wanted. Not valuing my own time in shopping for and bringing the candy to the consumers, and risking my own money on things people may not buy.

Another life lesson learned from you, George, while I get to chuckle now and then. Oh, to be young and naive. I was in my early 20's when I met a young man working for an international shoe distributor. I mentioned I liked Italian shoes. We were looking at shoes in the mall, and he said, "All these shoes are made in Asia, but we have them labeled according to the wishes of the buyers". I must say those "Italian " shoes looked great and were very expensive. It was a wake up call for me about some people's dishonesty. Until then, I believed anything anyone told me.😂
I came across your channel by accident, and wow, didnt knew you had so much experience. In a good way. You look so young, yet have already done lots in getting to run a business. Love the airbnb you have, but your previous "failured" businesses were also interesting! And indeed, learning from such is very helpful! Cheers!
Hey there George -- I had a massive (or what *feels* like massive) failure this weekend with my own baking business. This video came at just the right time. Thank you for sharing and being forthcoming with what you describe as your failures. Onward!
Generally, I look at failures as opportunities to learn. This past weekend, I had another opportunity to learn. We had a two day garage sale in which we made a grand total of $70. Factoring in all the time it took to set things up and that it will take to box things up and get rid of the leftovers, I figure I made about five cents per hour. Guess who will not be having a garage sale in the near or distant future!
Thank you for sharing all of your “failures” I think we fail when we don’t try, you most definitely have tried a number of ventures and then moved on to others. I worked in the corporate world for 34 years and then left to start my own business as a holistic nutritionist which meant going back to school to get certified. Having no idea how much working for a company and having a well known logo behind me helped my success in the corporate world, well let’s just say, I have learned a lot over the last 10 years. I’m still learning and I have finally found a couple of great business coaches who are helping me become more successful. I can say that over the last 10 years, I have spent money on things that were not wise, it’s all part of the lesson. The hardest part for me is standing out amongst the sea of other nutritionists and staying authentic to my values.
George, you are such a charismatic person! And also talking about your few business failures with such honesty and a subtle humour is something I admire you now even more than before. I love following your channel, always have a bit of everything in your videos. You are doing a fantastic job!❤
