A Jolly Christmas to you as well and a Happy New Year! Thank you for sharing so much and making great videos, I appreciate all your work and dedication, keep it up! Much love from Brazil.
Love all the new furniture! I especially love the dining table!!!!!
had to laugh seeing junior's "surprise face" to the snow was a hoot, I am sure she will investigate later and find the fun?

I see George you are going after the church for a little revenge lol. I used to love the smell of the pews because they had the woodsy smell. I think, they used that wood polish but I agree with the Bibles and hymn books a church. I would refuse to open them because of that ‘leftover’ smell.
Goosebumps books are good if you are into horror/ kind of thrillers. The books are for kids but I grew up with them. And find a good read.
03:03 cardboard boxes are usually made with recycled materials. Such materials would have been recovered from previous recycled cardboards as well. The material is adulterated yet still durable. For the vomit smell, if you live in a cold/wet environment or if the cardboards were stored in a humid container, the slightest moisture causes the re-re-recycled material to decay (though in a very very slow rate).
So kind of you to both put up a tree and replace the uncomfortable couch. I always appreciate how thoughtful and deliberate you are in this process. Wishing you health and blessings from Arkansas USA
That's very kind of you to say haha
Arkansas viewer here too! 🙋🏻♀️
These videos are so cozy, they feel like a warm mug of tea
The mini muffins - hee hee! Junior too, great fun!
😎
I love how you insert your sly sense of humor in your narratives. Well-done, Patchy
I love the dining table and the coffee table. Good choices. I like how much thought you put into decorating. One thing: the carpet in your new house is too small. The rule of thumb is that a carpet should be big enough to sit at least 6" under the front legs of your sofa. A carpet also is key in defining a space. A small carpet does not make a space look bigger, it makes it look smaller. Lastly, with your small carpet, you are forced to place your coffee table in the centre of it which makes it too far away for use, like a foot rest or picking up a drink.
Aw that's a good tip! Thank you very much. I'll get onto sorting that out. 🤠
I was going to comment the same thing. George your home is lovely and I truly enjoy your sense of humor.
Nice job!
Small or not, there’s no rule about placing the coffee table in the middle of a rug. The rug has to go and be replaced with one the size of which a designer might recommend and the table moved within 15 to 18” of the sofa.
@@IExpectedBSJustNotThisMuchBS I agree that a coffee table should be 15"-18" away from the sofa and therefore, with a larger space-defining rug, the coffee table will never be in the middle of the rug.
I like the line “partially filled the shelves with my clickbait awards”
Architect here. You’ve done a great job with your homes! A couple of tips: check dimensions very carefully before ordering furniture online. Photos often don’t give you a realistic sense of the size of the piece. Also, for your upholstered dining chairs I recommend a fabric protector like Scotch Guard to keep spills from staining the fabric.
avoid the scotchguard products, they give bad reactions to housepets
On an iPhone if you save a photo of a piece of furniture, you can tap on the object and it will lasso select it and give you the option to cut it out and paste it into another photo of your space. Not as fancy as virtual staging or augmented reality, but really helpful in a pinch. ✂️
Your guests at the tiny house will definitely appreciate the comfier sofa - what a thoughtful thing to do. The face on Junior when seeing the snow is priceless and a t-shirt worthy 😂😂.
Clothing line with Junior's shocked face on it coming soon
Another tip, especially for older homes, is to get the measurements of the doors to make sure the boxes/furniture will go through. I had to take part of the frame off once.
OMG YES!!! We just barely got the fridge through the front door. To get it out, we'll either have to take the handles off and scratch it in the process or take the doorframe off and put it back on to get the fridge out. Lesson learned!!
That green wall looks so nice and refreshing in a subtle way. it brings the outdoors in as well. You have created a lovely environment.
Lounges are always something you need to try out first. Good on you sending it back and thinking of your guests - not many people would do that.
Thing is, we did try it out in IKEA but I think it was quite well 'sat on' so was much softer than the one I ended up getting. Thankfully it's all worked out though.
My number 1 pet peeve with AirBnBs is uncomfortable couches (usually because they're sofa beds) so it's nice to see a host thinking about it.
Regarding odiferous corrugated cardboard packaging. Higher quality boxes, like those used for moving (strong, long life span and minimal odor), tend to not have a strong foul odor. Recycling involves breaking down boxes and separating the cellulose fibers from the adhesives, not to mention the various processing chemicals and numerous possible contaminants (such as moulds, food residues, oils and degraded fiber). With each round of reprocessing the odors can compound. It’s likely that the unpleasant odor was caused by the box having a substantial portion of recycled material. Recovery processes strive to make the best product possible while also using recovered fiber. The down side is that some quality parameters are compromised - odor is one and structural strength can be another. To ensure strength, a certain portion of box fabrication comes from use of new/virgin fiber. More virgin material generally means higher cost and price to the company ordering boxes for packaging and shipping products.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I think your taste in furnishings is spot on! Classic lines, not cluttered, functional and stress free environment. Well done. I'm hoping you'll link some of the items you bought so we can all take a look. Right now I'm searching options for a new TV stand. Thank you for posting, I love watching your adventures, with Jr, of course. Blessings from Missouri, USA.
Here are a couple of interior design tips you may (or may not) want to incorporate into your home.
Rugs: a rug should be a foot from each wall. Since you do not have the fourth wall - due to the open concept - you will have to decide where your imaginary wall needs to be. A smaller rug, like yours, makes the furniture look like it is floating. A rug of the right size will put a stop to that look.
Dining table: attach some flat disc shaped felt pieces to the bottom of your table. This will prevent scratching the floor when you need to move the table for cleaning.
Great books: A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. Anything by Peter Ackroyd. The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery. And hundreds more. Hit me up for titles if you like.
Thanks for the tips! The rug definitely doesn't go and wasn't bought for this place (bought it for the tiny house and couldn't leave it there for the Airbnb because it was full of cat hair). Already added some felt protectors to the bottom of the table though because that was a bit of a worry! And thanks for the recommendations... I've noted them down and will keep an eye out for them when I drop into a couple of charity shops later this week.
Not necessarily; it depends on your furniture placement, as well.
Rug just wants at least half the legs on, doesnt need to have the tv stand either, but I definitely felt the rugs he had stood out as small - ots very common in the UK through as most retailers just dont have big wnough rugs and so many people just dont know how to use them, everyone repeats what theyve seen in other houses.
@@zellalaing5439 My objection to the TV stand was there - in the back of my mind. But you can only throw so much at a person. I was hoping someone else would step in on that subject.
But here goes: TV stand is too low. Then, the colour is all wrong. He has chosen warm woods all around his house, but this tone of wood is cold. He would be better off adding higher legs, changing the colour to something warm, like his dining table and cocktail table, or getting rid of it and choosing something else.
The rule of three applies here as well: never have more than three related woodtones in a room - unless you're going all BoHO - but it is evident that BoHo is not his style at all.
Love what you're doing George! You are such a creative and thoughtful young man.
Haha thank you!
There's an elegant simplicity and honesty to your videos, Patchy. Thanks for sharing - you really know how to do decent digs. I wouldn't mind living in the kind of style you seem to prefer.
Hi George....yeah...cheaper is rarely better, especially with sofas, and the new charcoal one looks tons better, besides actually being comfy. The look on Juniors face was precious...sheer horror! Merry Christmas to you and the kitties!
Glad you like the new sofa! Likewise, hope you have a good one yourself. :)
Very considerate of you to replace the sofa, George! I’ll book your Airbnb one of these days for a little getaway. Looks so nice and cozy.
Haha it was honestly keeping me up at night. And thank you, you'll be very welcome! :)
The dining table is beautiful 👍👍
Thanks! I'm happy with it haha.
I love your dining table, beautiful. Had to edit to say I love the coffee table too. Both look very high end.
Thank you!
I love it too, and am not finding it online. Could you please tell me where it came from?@@Patchy
Thank you for sharing your addition to your home. Too cute with your little one looking atvthe snow outside!!😊😊😊😊
Thank you! :)
@@Patchy You are welcome. You little one looks too cute and spoiled!! Soo nice!!! ☺ And Merry Christmas to you and your little family member!! ☺
As a fellow Scotsman I love the banter George. Still playing catch up as only found your channel today but it is certainly enjoyable.
Seeing you and your mum sitting together made me smile :) I have a 28yo son, he's everything to me
I just love your videos and the way you narrate them. You are so darn likeable. good for you.
I REALLY LIKE THE ROUND TABLE it brings in a lot of harmony
Your new house is now getting very homy rather quickly! What a joy for you to really be able to relax in the space in time for the holidays! If I may make one suggestion, try out placing the rug just under the front legs of your sofa (like you did in the tiny house), that way it'll be nice and warm and fluffy under your feet when your sitting down or getting up from it, plus you'll leave more room on the other end to create a sort of natural walk through between coffee table and tv (and less risk of getting it dirty from always crossing the room on that end of the rug). Maybe just try it out and see if it suits your comfort.
I did not plan to watch the entire thing because if my adhd but your voice is entrancing
I like the fact the dining chairs look very comfy. I'm quite sick of sitting my bony bum on hardwood chairs and going numb half an hour later😊 Great vlogs, i love your style ❤
Great update, George. I enjoy your narration, you always add some dry humor, such fun! And you decorate beautifully. I hope you have a lovely holiday. 😊
Thank you! Hope you have a good one as well. :)
The old book scent (at least) they say is from lignin, which is a plant polymer that breaks down with decomposition. Some people really love it and buy perfumes that resemble the smell 😉👃📖
Aw no really?! I couldn't handle someone being around me with that perfume all day haha!
@@Patchy haha the funny thing is the most expensive perfume ingredient is actually from whale vomit (ambergris) . Crazy. 😅🐋🤮 Happy Holidays, Patchy!
The "old book smell" mentioned above shows up in books that are taken care off well and kept dry. The smell of the hymn books and cardboard in the video sound a lot more like plain old mold, for which cheap paper, grubby hands, some moisture make a great breeding ground.
@@twell1984 I was wondering that too 🤔 bc books smell amazing, and not very vomit like (to me, at least).
I LOVE that green shade you’ve chosen for the feature wall George.
If it’s possible I’d paint the radiator the same colour. 😊
the soft, slow, quiet piano music in the background, very nice touch.
I have two cats, one very timid and one very brave, and your cats' reaction to the snowy outdoors was very familiar to me. I love your design vibe and the advice. Thanks!
I really like the table & the chairs look comfortable. It was thoughtful of you to replace the lounge.
I love the dinning table. I would add bits of vintage pieces, an old radio, typewriter, books, just for decoration.
Would be nice to see you adding links (affiliate where good for you) to all of the nice things you show. Even that long door mat caught my eye 👀
You might think about grouping your books by color. Will give you some color. And you can have some vertical and some horizontal. And then maybe place a treasure on the horizontal stack. Also, visually groups of 3 are always more interesting.
Honestly, when it comes to taste, it’s only yours that matters, it’s your home. So far you’ve got great taste
Love the look of the new sofa. You’re a stand-up guy to level up to a comfortable sofa for guests. Your dining table is quite nice too.
About the cardboard smell, i bought a plastic carpet protector for underneath a computer chair, it reeked of stale tobacco, so took it outside and gave it a good wash with hot water and detergent, that got rid of the smell, I could only put the cause of the smell as coming from warehouse storage or shipping that was near to people smoking.
Yes, another kitten!!! Junior will be thrilled! 👍👏👏👏😻Your tables, both the coffee table and dining table are beautiful. You have great taste George and I believe that Junior agrees!👍Wishing you the best in the new year because you deserve it, you're hardworking and a good human being and yes, you're a cat daddy.😹👍👏👏👏
I never buy items online that I want to be comfortable (like chairs, couch, bed). Gotta try before you buy
After the manufacturing process, Butyric Acid (also found in vomit) can be created as a result of the breakdown in the fibres of the cardboard, especially if it’s recycled cardboard.
Hi George, not sure if you knew, but some furniture stores have apps with AR photos. Basically it uses your camera and to show how the furniture would look in your house, so you don't have to go cross-eyed trying to imagine it there for real.
I love the furniture you have added, especially the dining table and chairs ,it’s giving warm and cozy.
Great video! Love the soft non-intrusive music wayyyy in the background. I’m also happy you will be getting a second kitty. I have two of them as well.. a boy and a girl and I’m sure glad they became fast friends after a few weeks of a proper slow introduction!
Lovely snow. Thanks for the video!! 🤩
The dining table is gorgeous! Funky chunky furniture!❤❤❤. With regards to the cardboard it's probably because its recycled & there is no cleaning process. With regards to books its probably because the paper is not acid free, that causes it to disintegrate & smell musty. You can try spraying them with a fine mist of ironing water or spray deodorant, this will not harm them but get rid of the smell.
Congratulations on all your progress. Great content as always. ❤ Happy Christmas & All the best for the New Year 2024!.
The new furniture is quite handsome. For dining chairs , might I suggest antique caned chairs .( usually French.) they’re pricey ; but , if you hunt you’ll find them . Or acquire them over time .beautiful & solid .
& as far as the “uncomfortable “ sofa ; ikea is cheap for a reason .
just yesterday i rewatched my favorite videos from your channel as its study season and i love to relax while watching your videos during my study breaks as you just live peacefully with your cats, bake and unbox and review furniture and was wishing you'd upload more of those and you did today, i guess thats another christmas miracle (hoping to see more of the baking and also your new kitten in the future)
Thank you for the kind words and for being such a loyal viewer! Really appreciate it. :)
Gotta love a good genuine sitting reaction. 😜
Omg the cats in the snow and the kitty tiny house, so cute!
You asked any minister watching to comment on the smell of hymn books and bible's. Sorry I haven't noticed ours smelling bad, I'll try and remember to check them out this Sunday (although I may have other things on my mind on Christmas eve!!!!) I suspect it's probably caused by mild damp over a long period of time!!
As far as the pews are concerned, yes they are usually very uncomfortable. I'm happy to have to stand for most of church!!!!
Thanks for your videos and interior decorating tips in this one.
Wishing you, your family, and your viewers a blessed, peaceful, and joy filled Christmas.
Haha well I certainly didn't expect to receive input from a real minister! I very much appreciate your professional input. I'd like to apologise in advance if someone walks in whilst your nose is literally in a book because of this.
Thank you! Likewise for yourself and your family. :)
@@Patchy Old books at my university library smelled like vomit, too. I don't think it's a church thing! I asked someone about this once and they said it was the glue that smelled that way
The room is turning out beautiful I especially like your new dining table
That dining table is Killer!! Love it!
Thank you!
That chunky table reminded me of my living room furniture I had in the 80s, made of oak with replaceable covers for the cushions.
Your cats are cute ❤
Great job, George. You thoughtfully decorated that house, and it looks great. Companies sponsoring you get more than their money's worth. I am thinking about that chunky coffee table. It looks great in its simplicity. Low maintenance too.
Both tables look fantastic - you are doing a great job! Glad you were able to return the sofa. We all make mistakes, but best to recognize them early and deal with them!
Pull the carpet closer to (or even under) the sofa legs so human feet are on the carpet and coffee table will draw closer too. Yay! Edit: how high is the dining table compared to the people sitting around it? Chairs seem low/table high.. Good luck!
Good call!
He seems like a cozy, warm, genuinely good person i wanna hug him and his kittens omg! and also has good taste in decor! this man has already place in heaven
I love the dining room table. You have great taste.
I’m in love with the dining table (and all the furnishing in general tbh)!!!
Books! Can't go wrong with the classics:
- Dune 1 through 4
- Hyperion 1 & 2
Book rec! The Thursday Murder Club mystery series. They follow a gang of elderly retirees living in a retirement village, who like to discuss unsolved crimes. Which leads to all sorts of trouble! I love them, they're funny and full of heart. 😊
Great tips... Love your dining table.
And cats love cardboard boxes too. You could cut offset In and Out holes for your cats in your test coffee table box.
Oh my goodness, I love both your tables !
Thank you Isabelle! :)
I would like to recommend detective author, Archer Mayor, who is a Vermont author (I live in Vermont) and his detective "hero" is Joe Gunther. Archer has been writing for @ 30 years and puts out a book a year, so there is plenty to choose from. Each book tends to pick up where the previous one left off. When he started writing he gave Joe's background as being a Korean War vet which would make him about 110 years old now so you have to turn a blind eye to some things. Joe is a Vermont detective and solves murders/missing people in my home state so I do know most of the places he talks about, but I think you will find his books enjoyable. You might want to look at his book order and start at the beginning, but even if you pick one up that is more current you would be able to grasp the story line.
Love your logic, we Dunnetts are the original lateral thinkers. Have a lovely Christmas, hope Junior has bought you a decent present
Love your dining table and chairs! Great choice. I like my furniture to be unique and interesting too, so I know exactly how difficult shopping can be. Well done!
Thank you! And it can be a challenge but it's nice when slightly odd pieces work out nicely!
I love my comfy, spacious German flat very much, but I'd swap places with you in a heartbeat! Your tiny house and your new home look absolutely comfy and cozy and calming. I'd take good care of Junior!
How handy to have a coffee table with kitty storage! I absolutely love your furniture choices. The dining table and chairs are fabulous. Thanks for the video and Merry Christmas to you and yours!
I love the dining table and chairs! You have very nice taste.
Book recommendation - Given your interest in interior design, you might like 'The Efficient Kitchen' by Georgie Boynton Child. It was originally published in 1914 and includes information meant for old school kitchens (ones that used to have butler's pantries and icebox fridges), but the principles are still sound.
I loved the Christmas scene on the telly.
You have a very calming voice, it´s a joy to listen to you.
I like the idea with the big box to get a sense of scale. What I did for a mirror was making a template out of paper, to see the size and shape in the bathroom, helped a lot. for other furniture I have also just put some chairs or smaller boxes to outline the size, better than nothing and you don´t always have a big box at hand.
Going with the biggest furniture first is also good, but I would say the most important, or the one where you have the least options, or maybe just the stuff you know what you want. sometimes I find it overwhelming to know what I want and starting with what I do know already gives a good guidance to what the rest of the furniture or decor needs to achieve and fit in to, makes it easier in my opinion. Just keep in mind what big peaces have to fit, so you don´t use all your space for the sofa and there is non left for a dining table.
And I also find that the ikea sofas are not comfortable I am looking for a new sofa and sat in a few in store and they are way too soft for my liking.
Happy Christmas George & Junior!!! Your home is coming along fabulously!!! Big hugs from Kenny Ohio USA!!!!!
Back at ya and thank you!
I love your sense of humor. Had me chuckling throughout ❤
Ah, I like the green wall.
It all looks great, but that new coffee table is beautiful!
Love your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Dinning tale is wonderful. ❤❤
House is looking amazing, can not beat solid wood furniture, lasts forever! I'm having flashbacks to church with that horrible bible smell 🤣have a good Christmas when it comes! 🎄
Cheers Darren! Much appreciated. Hope you and your family have a good one yourself! :)
Good job /looks awesome!
Lovely room. I really like the recessed bookshelves. And the kitchen is gorgeous, too. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jan!
Love your dining table and coffee table, you have really good taste. Pets to Junior.
I'm lovin' the dining table, George! Great choice.
Lookin’ great!!
You might want to get a decorating book that explains furniture placement, etc. For example, Vern Yip has a good book.
Just saw you sitting at the table the chairs are perfect.🇨🇦❤
Super excited about a new kitten!
love that dining table!
Thank you for the cardboard box tip. I am sizing up my new dining room tomorrow, couldnt be more timely.
Great job 👍 and loving the coffee table for sure 🌺
Wow, your new living room is really coming together. I love your table and chairs, stunning.
Thanks! I'm quite pleased with how it's looking. :)
Love Love Love the coffee table
Love the chunky coffee table, it's beautiful!
Love the dining table! Nice find!
