If you want to learn SQL or work on projects related to MySQL database, you'll require MySQL 8 database installed on your MAC PC. This video tutorial is a step by step guide to install MySQL 8 on macOS 12 operating system. The MySQL database has GPL license. And it’s free to download & use. The official website of MySQL is www.mysql.com/
Even though, in this tutorial I've used macOS 12, the installation steps in this video will work on, MacOS 10 OR codenamed versions like, Yosemite, El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave, OR Catalina etc. And also on macOS 13 Ventura. On downloads page, For "Select Operating System" option, select "macOS" And for "Select OS Version", select ARM or X86 (depending on your processor). Then It will show .dmg installar. Download the .dmg installer file to your computer. And, the installation is straightforward.

Hi Armando, Are you able to login to your MySQL server? If not, most probably, the installation wasn't successful at your end. So, instead of 8.0.32, may be try old version. Let me know your macOS version so that I can assist you with choosing MySQL version.

I tried to download and install mysql workbench (version: 8.0.33) but kept having this error message "You can’t use this version of the application “MySQLWorkbench” with this version of macOS. You have macOS 12.6.5. The application requires macOS 13.0 or later."

1) Go to following URL,
downloads.mysql.com/archives/community/
2) On product archives page, from Product Version drop-down, select 8.0.30,
3) Then for Operating System drop-down select macOS
3) And for OS Version select either ARM (If your computer has arm processor) or X86 (for intel processor)
4) You will get a list of files. Download the DMG Archive file with large file size.
Once download is complete, start the installation, and follow instructions given in this video tutorial.

Just wanted to know that is there a way to use MySQL Workbench with the MariaDB server of Xampp on Mac? In windows its very easy by just stopping the MySQL80 server in services and turning on Xampp server but in Mac I am unable to fetch tables with Maria DB on.

MySQL:- 8.0.31
XAMPP:- 8.2.0-0
Using MariaDB with MySQL WB actually helps in executing many queries which are showing syntax errors in MySQL server.
@@PnTutorialsbyPradnyankurNikam To use MariaDB I stop MySQL server from System Preferences and it gets stopped. Then from XAMPP manager I start the XAMPP server and it gets started but with this MySQL server also gets started again automatically and it is impossible to stop it unless I stop XAMPP SERVER. Just try on your system you will get what I am saying.

You'll have to download MySQL workbench separately. Go to following link,
downloads.mysql.com/archives/workbench/
For Product Version, select 8.0.32 And for Operating System, select macOS. And you'll get DMG installer. Run the installer and it's pretty straightforward. Once you install MySQL workbench, you'll have to use root or other user credentials to access your MySQL database.

For Product version select 8.0.30 and for Operating System select macOS. And in the list you'll get MySQL installer DMG file for macOS 12.

Thank you for this detailed video. I have a quick question. I was able to install MySQl however the server will not start. The active instance remains red regardless of my attempts to start the program. I have verified that I should be using x86. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, tried different versions including the 8.0 and the 8.1, and have also tried restarting my macbook Do you have any suggestions on how i can fix this problem?

If you are using macOS 12 then I would recommend you to try MySQL 8.0.30
Here are the steps you should follow.
1) First of all completely uninstall & remove MySQL from you computer. Follow the uninstall steps given in my another tutorial.

All the steps are pretty straightforward. For terminal, I already have given the commands and executed while recording, so it won't cause any issue. The thing is you must completely uninstall & delete all previous failed/unsuccessful installation files. If you don't do that, you might keep getting the same issue.
Another way is, you'll have to install MAMP (Mac Apache MySQL PHP) stack. It's a local development server. You can search for Bitnani MAMP and give it a try. It includes MySQL. You can explore Bitnami docs how to access & use MySQL after installing their software stack.
When I try to enter the password in the terminal after download mySQL would you know why it would say "ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root@localhost' (using password: YES)"?

The ERROR 1045 is due to incorrect password.
1) Make sure you are using correct password.
2) Let me know the command you are using so that I can help you fix the issue.
I tried according to your guidance, but in installation wizard configuration step skip, even I press Go Back button :(
So in terminal there is no password that I can enter.

First of all completely remove/uninstall unsuccessful installation. Checkout my another video tutorial where I've given step by step instructions to uninstall MySQL and delete database files from macOS. Here is the link,

How can i put world database, i had but now not
Hi, I didn't get your question. Do you mean you had backup file for your "world" database and you want to import it in your new database? Let me know more detail so that I can understand your question better and help you resolve your issue.

1) You can download sample world and sakila databases from the following link,
dev.mysql.com/doc/index-other.html
2) Once you download, extract the zip file, and you'll get .sql files.
3) Now, in your terminal window, enter following command,
mysql -u root -p dbName < fullPathToDB.sql
Note: Replace "dbName" and "fullPathToDB.sql" with actual database name and actual path to database .sql files.

Most probably, The installed MySQL version isn't supporting your system. I would recommend you to install a different MySQL version. May be go with MySQL 8.0.30 version. If you are using macOS 12 Monterey, go to following MySQL Product Archives link,
downloads.mysql.com/archives/community/
For Product version select 8.0.30 and for Operating System select macOS. And in the list you'll get MySQL installer DMG file for macOS 12.
If you are not sure, let me know your macOS version and I'll suggest you the correct MySQL version.
