Oh boy! When he started avoiding the pricing per parts...budget build for...Bill Gates?
Still about $1000 less than a legit SPR. You could knock off the front sight combo and the rear sight and replace them with MBUS and come in low enough to suit most poors budgets.
@@jpettit27 Yeah, if you cut off some of the more expensive items(Trigger, sight thing) it' s pretty affordable
I need to reach out to you, I have my first AR and want to budget out the mod build.
That's about what a budget spr cost. I have a psa 16 in with a leupold 3.5x10 w/ a vortex red dot and a trigger and a few other things. Overall cost was about 1650, very easily couldve been 2500 or more.
My wife's PSA 18" does great for a 300 dollar kit back in the day. Several moa groups
@Nadia Brooks to be fair he said "several" - so 20MOA is in play lol
Nothing wrong with those PSA builds at all. Its 95% the shooter and 5% the gun imo
@Nadia Brooks I'm talking about real life with meat targets. I'd rather have an experienced shooter with a musket than an inexperienced shooter with a top-of-the-line AR you know what I mean?
@@Doobie603 " I do this for a living"
AKA I have a profit margin that PSA is cutting into.
PSA, along with Bear Creek, bring combat accurate rifles to the common individual, if you don't like that, you're the problem.
@Nadia Brooks I've got a psa 18 inche stainless rifle length gas barreled upper on a aero lower and a cmc trigger with a cheap 4-16 scope. Reloading for it ive gotten quite a few sub .5moa groups and 1moa is not a challenge for it.
The mk12 fed with mk262 was so accurate some accused our soldiers of execution style killings (on ur knees gun to ur face) bc they were able to precisely place lead smack in the middle of insurgents faces. A Mk12 is by far and above one of my favorite rifles of all time
Those are the kind of stories that can turn a guy that only has a handgun he shoots once a year into a full blown military arms cloner.

The president himself is serving them to us.
Wasn't aware that Palmetto made a side charging upper or a fluted stainless in 18 inch 223 wylde barrel. You sure it's not Bear Creek?
The Ultradyne sights and the upgraded trigger probably cost as much of the rest of the rifle.
LMAO, that's exactly what I said to myself as soon as the video opened.. Also don't forget the muzzle device. I Love Ultradyne, I have something like 6 of their products. I also just got 3 - 18" 223 Wylde 1:7 416R SS Diamondback Firearms barrels for $229.47 shipped over the 4th. I'll build 3 SPR's for the cost of this one :)
@@ethand3577 S&W are great retail guns. But honestly you should consider at least a red dot! Even without magnification you'll be astonished how fast and accurate you can be. They can be had for a relatively low price.. Swampfox, Sig, Vortex, Holosun. Check out FocusTripp on here, great dude with great budget friendly reviews. Also his steel is the cheapest on the web!
@@benbowditch9265 Romeo 5 on my S&W! I love it! Firing fast and on target! I'm looking at buying a more expensive purchase on my next AR, but my S&W with the Romeo 5 does the job!
@@ethand3577 Trust me. You have no idea how much difference a red dot makes when rapid firing! Over 100 yards? Not sure why you mentioned that. My S&W with the Romeo 5 is all about close quarters. You are new like me. You will want a decent optic, trust me. I'm shopping for my 3rd AR right now.
You could take about $300 off that price by ditching the front sight and doing an MBT trigger
Midwest Industries 2 Chamber or Strike Industries King Comp for the Low price $30. That's an Apollo S $100+, E is mixing Dyna-mount with Dyna-comp..? He's just gotten so freakin` filthy rich that $1,600 is a budget setup haha.

@@mh3225 lolol comparing those to a Larue MBT? 🤣🤣🤣
@@deandalapanda All my semi auto rifles have LaRue MBT triggers in them. I consider them to be on par with any higher end aftermarket AR trigger. When you factor in that I got all three of mine for $79.00 each, to me it was a no brainer. I don't really need to build another AR right now. When I change my mind, it will have a LaRue MBT trigger.
Nice bench and rest......finally. Thank you both for your time and efforts.
Glad to see you doing a gun review again.
Back in 99 I bought a post ban Olympic Arms AR brand new, in the box, from a friend for $350.
He bought it a few days earlier but then decided he wanted a pre- ban AR so he could have a collapsible stock. He went back to the gun show before the weekend was over and bought another one....my good fortune.
Since then I have waited for good deals on a new upper, an adjustable stock, free float hand guards and a good red dot (most expensive accessory).
I have about $650 to $700 in it all told spread out over 30 years...to me it is the perfect budget AR....lol
I have 2 fighting ARs and one scoped for distance work. You are right ref a good trigger. I don't get too excited about them. My fun guns are bolt actions. Everyone has their favorites.
Budget means different things to some !
My budget spr is a seekins rail and 18" wylde 5r button rifled barrel, mil spec upper and lower, vortex 6-24 diamondback tactical, geissele ssae I got for $120, strike industries charging handle, mil spec everything else. About $1200 all in with everything
First centerfire autoloading rifle I ever had was an AR-15 that I put together myself. The parts are different but this was the same sort of thing I was trying to get.. Ballistic advantage 20" heavy fluted barrel with matched Nickel Boron coated Bolt and Carrier. Aero Precision Lower, upper, and handguard. Magpul Moe grip and fixed stock, ALG trigger basic 3 to 9 x40 scope from Vortex. and at first I used a run of the mill buffer and spring but was later convinced to get the silent captured spring. slightly more expensive as this factoring in the captured spring, around the same weight, and probably slightly better accuracy because of that ridiculous budget I threw into the barrel and matching bolt.
I certainly like the nice stuff but I really appreciate you guys being even handed in reviews and helping some understand that it doesn’t take the very best to make shots. Really top notch equipment doesn’t make you suck less.
Well said. I own some PSA & BCA. They work very well… to say the least ..
Ruger 452 elite trigger is an excellent, crisp, 2 stage trigger for just over 100 dollars.
I'm running a BCA upper/PSA lower with a matching 20" 1-8 HBAR Criterion barrel with matching bolt, and a polished milspec trigger. (Took a Dremel with cloth buffing wheel and polishing compound to all the parts of the trigger group that touch.) Went with a Smith Vortex Flash Hider, a PA 4-14x44 with the DMR HUD reticle set into a UTG Accusync mount. Also running a tube mounted Holosun dot (don't remember which one off hand tbh) The gas block is an odinworks adjustable. Buffer is an H1, buffer spring is braided wire. Stock is the UTG clone of the B5 SOPMOD.
After shimming the barrel into the upper with some 0.005 stainless shimstock, polishing the trigger and pulling the crush washer off of the barrel and using loctite to set the flash hider, it's literally stacking mk262 at 100 yds. There's virtually no felt recoil.
The entire setup ended up running me about $1300-1400. I could have easily knocked that down to sub 1k had I just kept the BCA barrel and bolt, which were about 1 MOA accuracy. I'm a sucker for Criterion barrels though.
I'm ringing steel out to 800 with this setup using mk262s no problem.
Having built a few AR's now, I will say that you need to make sure you have enough eye relief for your scope. The traditional "nose to charging handle" method doesn't work well unless the scope is about 3 inches away from your face. An A2-length buttstock works better for scopes than an A1-length stock, and be sure to get a scope mount that can move your scope forward as much as possible without looking odd.
I built an 18" spr type from Geaux Armory for under $400.. with a spiral fluted .223 wylde barrel, it has quickly become one of my favorite rifles. Still has the old key mod rail, but I don't mind.
Budget build with a $240 trigger
Totally worth it! I've got one on my sw m&p sport I. Love it!
No poors
He didn’t say low budget?
Dude if you want a great 100$ ar trigger get the timney impact ar. I don't like the way the shoe feels it's too narrow. But crap it's sweet and SHORT! Hardly any take-up you're right on the wall. Very minimal over travel and extremely short reset I would say overall it moves like 5mm
La rue MBT. Excellent trigger, only $87
Glad to see build rifle videos again!
Almost the same setup I have but mine is in 6.5 Grendel!!
Did you get a side charger?
You guys can steal my idea and build an GPR (general purpose rifle). It’s a super light weight all purpose rifle. 16” Xcaliber spaghetti profile.223 barrel with the 5r rifling, lightweight hand guards ( I like Midwest industries) and a good 1-8 lightweight scope. It’s possible to build it if you go with the night force to come in at 6lbs and be a 1” gun with hand loads . I have the same setup in 6x45 for hunting and with a 3-9nikon it’s right at 6lbs and is ridiculously accurate
I run a 4x14 ACSS on my SPR build with a 45° red dot
Same
The sights, trigger, and brake cost as much as the rest of the rifle.
Mine has a LaRue MBT and a VG6 gamma.
How it should be.
I love quality value builds and the stuff from PSA is good enough for me.
2:50 that gives me faith back in Americans! You're the first US youtuber that can actually describe a scope properly as in '3 TO 9 BY 40' not '3 by 9 by 40' which nearly everyone seems to say in your country.
Not sure where your from, but there is a thing called local dialect. It has nothing to do with intelligence. It's what people of a region call a particular thing. Just because someone does not talk like you do that does not degrade them in any way.
@@tireballastserviceofflorid7771 I’m an American and local dialect has nothing to do with properly describing a scope. 3-9x40 is pretty simple. It stands for 3 power to 9 power by 40 mm objective lens.
Its rural backwood guys saying that "x by x by x" shit but anybody sharp will say "x to x by x" - Texan
My 18" bca has been spectacular!
It's not in league with a PRI but I could also get like 6 of the bca for the cost of one mod12
One thing id chamge is the handgaurd, change it to a daniel defense rail. The wount peice goes between the receiver and barrel nut making it alot more durable then most rails on there.
👍 to PSA for providing good quality AR products at a price most people can afford. 2 years ago I built an AR for my wife with a pencil profile SS 1:7x16” barrel upper with a lightweight M-Lok rail, MBUIS sights and a nickel boron BCG, a standard lower, MagPul furniture and a nickel boron coated and polished trigger group for $400! Did I mention the mid-length gas system? It’s soft shooting, lightweight and shoots 2 MOA with a Sig Romeo5 red dot with PERFECT reliability. I’m a fan of what works and so far, I’m impressed. BTW, PSA is made in the USA 🇺🇸
The side charging upper keeps the handle away from your scope too.
yup, using the normal t handle when you're prone and looking down the scope is a pain
Absolutely it does. I have fallen in love with the side charger. I got a BCA side charger upper in 350 legend to try it out. I really like it alot and hope it becomes more popular and available.
The charging handle is on the wrong side.
@@C172Pilotdude BCA does offer it on the left side on some of their offerings but not all. I'm gonna try and see if they will make me a few left side chargers that they don't currently offer.
Quality, wide ambidextrous Charging handles are plentiful and affordable, certainly less expensive than a proprietary upper and hardware. YMMV.
For the guitar people in the audience. Palmetto is like a Fender Squire, Something Aero Precision or BCM is like a Mexican Strat, and something like Knights Armament is like an American Strat. They're all guitars and they all playable but some are more flexible or built with higher quality materials.
Thanks for that break down. I’m a guitar guy, that made perfect sense to me
A skilled player can make a squire sing better than a amateur with a American strat.
@@charlessalmond7076 to a degree, but in my experience when I was learning to play I got a used squire with the traditional 3 single coil pickup setup. It was way too one dimensional for the songs I wanted to learn to play and I ended up growing out of it quickly. After that I got a different guitar that was still somewhat one dimensional but was very good in that specific dimension that I liked at the time and was much better suited to me. Then I got tired of that specific sound it had because I decided to change genres and that guitar couldn't change with me. Then I got a Mexican Strat HSH that can sound like 5 different guitars. American strat would be nice but I'd almost be afraid to play it because it's so expensive. Sure a squire can be played as long as it's one kind of sound is the sound you like.
Thanks for that! It’s the first time anyone has put this into context that I’m familiar with.
I built an SPR using Aero Receivers, Ballistic Advantage 18-inch SPR fluted barrel, Geissele SD-E, Toolcraft BCG, and put on a Primary Arms 1-8 PLX Griffin MIL scope. So far it shoots around .6 MOA with 77gr reloads on paper at 100 yards and I've taken it out to 700 yards on a 66% IPSC. Amazing how far components have come these days.
Weird how a 450$ psa complete ar15 before Covid is now 800$
Its the way the world works. As demand of weapons are higher now and supply is lower due to shipping blockages.
Its Called the Covid tax lol
Dont know where you're from but in Melbourne Australia for example prices on 2nd hand cars have gone through the roof.
1 year ago for example a car worth $5000 today people are asking 12k+ lol everything has gone up and everyone uses the "Covid" excuse.
I have 2 psa ar pistols and I love them
@Sniper Steve The key word being "IF" haha
It’s because dumbasses are actually buying them for that
I really respect and admire you . You never bash anything or make a guy like me feel like a 2nd class citizen because I don’t have the Gucci stuff ! You’re welcome at my fire anytime!
ive got an SPR built on an 18 inch ar stoner barrel from midway, stainless, fluted, mid length gas system. holds .75moa with 77 grain IMI razor core. cost me $140. i understand the quality control may be hit or miss, but that rifle hits out to 500 with zero issues.
Very similar to my 6.5mm grendel build
So much fun
Love to see you get together with Dragon Arms in Colorado, they Mfg. Upers, lowers and complete guns and is a Veteran
I love my psa m4. I've put 1000 rounds through with zero issues. Runs steel case perfectly and is extremely accurate. It's a 16in with 1:7 twist and I've gotten moa and sub moa groups with mid grade ammo. I also have a psa match grade trigger in it that was only 120$!!!!! It's also amazing. Single stage 3.5lb pull with ZERO take up with a very crisp reset
And yes I know 1000 rounds isn't a lot but ammo isn't attainable for everyone
That side charging upper is cool..
I think my mk12 budget build was around $600 used s&w lower stock components $100 utg a2 buttstock $80 psa 18in upper $300 lantac muzzel brake $60 changed the mlok for a quad rail $60 back up utg metal sights and ebay bipod$50 and $250 athlon optic 4-16x50 gotten good hit out to 500yd happy overall with its performance out of a budget rifle.
I've built a few SPR setups, had one amazing budget setup. It had no lemon parts at all. It shot better groups at 600+ then my 5500 setup.
My 18" rig has a YHM upper and Mega Lower with Timney trigger and a custom fluted barrel under a YHM quad rail. Had a PA 1-6 on it and now looking to move to something a bit longer FFP.
Psa premium Chf 18” rifle length gas 1/8” twist upper with a low mass bcg, a triggertech competitive trigger, a jp silent captured spring and a primary arms glx 2.5-10x
Idk about budget but these components are worth every penny.
Will a JP SCS work with any length of gas system? Carbine/midlength/rifle?
@@armorist6570 yes. Mine is the standard buffer weight and it works fine with any upper. If I was mainly running it on a carbine or pistol length gas system I’d probably get the tungsten weight set to get it to h2 weight.
Just get a Ruger AR556 MPR. Everything you need for $750 or less. Mine was sub MOA with match ammo.
Except the trigger is junk. Take your $750 plus $100 to $200 more and you are in the same price point. And quality point as well.
@@tireballastserviceofflorid7771 I think the ruger 452 trigger is decent. And $750 is the high side for the ruger. I got mine for $500.
The Marines M16A4 with the ACOG will shoot to 600 all day long, and that's was standard rifle when I was with 1st Marines in 2017... Only problem is that the ACOG is more expensive than the budget rifle.

I consider the grain of 60-70 to be the optimum 5.56x45 round. I am glad to see someone using the 69grain to great effect.
Depends on what you're doing with it. Could go heavier even.
Have had plenty of luck with PPU 75gr and hornady 75gr steel case, both BTHP style bullets. Stabilized well in my 9" twist, will work in a 8" for sure.

Ha ha! I have several SPR's. One for about every " situation " or " special " event?????? Always 100% ready to rock & roll on a seconds notice. My favorite one is set up " specially ( lol) for those uninvited varmints of any type. There should be a law that every household have at least one SPR. YOU KNOW, FOR THAT ONE SPECIAL PURPOSE!!!!
Why not go longer with the barrel for maximum velocity though? Could make a significant difference if you really wanted to reach out with this thing.
I like your rifle. It really appeals to me.
God bless all here.
When designing the Mk12 SPR, they were originally going to use a 20 inch barrel, but the military said "we already have a 20 inch barrel; why would buy a new product that's the same as the old?", so they changed it to 18 inches. My point I'm getting at is just use a 20 or 22 inch barrel. You'll get better ballistics.
I'm itching to have something like that in 7,62. I have the scope for it.
@Sniper Steve Ah yup
@Sniper Steve Thanks. Ive got a FAL and M1A and lots of 7.62 😎

Great video gentlemen
Can’t beat geissele triggers. Best bang for your buck imo. Don’t cheap out, just get geissele if you can.
I found that I shot better groups with my PSA Disapator with a ALG ACT trigger than I did with my Saber Defense M16A4 clone with a Gieselle SSA/E trigger when using iron sights.
So let me get this right!!! So that’s a any major or minor distributor of an A2 stock, with guts, a lower receiver for x dollars because of name. Don’t see any permanent features to the magwell, trigger guard, ejection deflection thing. So it’s definitely a regular milspec lower. Upper looks like a BCA, which run like they are supposed to. Fluted barrel from any of the companies that get pooped on. The trigger cost more than half the setup itself. You got it, flaunt it. Sights and comps are spend at discretion. Special Purpose Rifle!! Got it!!
We need to see a bcm socom upper meltdown to see how it compares to the standard barrels!!!!
There's been enough melt-down's that we already know the typical thing is gonna happen: Barrel will bend just enough that the gas port wont align and that'll be that.
Everybody already knows BULL/HBAR and FBI/SOCOM type of barrel pretty much stay straight and gas tube burst.
@@ToreDL87 you forgot the part that the barrel is SOCOM its thicker than HBAR so barrel pretty much stay straight but gas tube will burst or droop.

Ive got a Bear Creek side upper and i doodled a little skull guy on the t handle hole plug thing
I don't get it. Everyone disses on PSA. I have more than a couple of PSA builds. I also have some other builds (del-ton, radical, etc). My del-ton build is by far the most accurate, but I think that's mainly due to the 20" heavy barrel. 2nd place goes to the PSA-10 with a 20" barrel. My favorite is a Radical 16" upper in 7.62x39 on a PSA lower. I also use mostly UTG scopes. Sacrilege, I know. My point is that I don't think that the brand matters all that much. I can still hit the vitals on a deer or hog at 200 using any of those, and that's what counts in the freezer.
Ultradyne Apollo S brake. Flattest shooter ever. Have it in my wife’s 16” 5.56 w/ SSA 2stg.

What's a good way to dial in your gas system? I'm having issues where my build is jamming should I try different springs and buffers. I think my spring and buffer if for full length rifle because I have an A2 stock
Won't hurt just to try a carbine buffer and spring if you have one or a friend that will let you borrow one. What exactly is it doing?
When you say jamming, is it stove piping, fail to feed, fail to eject, etc..?
@@chadh3441 so if I remember correctly every so often the gun fails to eject. It will catch the empty cartridge and the bolt will deform it. It used to do it every 3 round or so but I opened up the gas more and I think now it might do it like every 6-10 rounds
Nice slap even at 300
You built myself in SPR with a 20" barrel Is shooting a pin pong ball at at 500 yd chambered in 223 wild Green Mountain barrel Radical arms everything else with a with a guisley 2 and a 1/2 pound trigger straight up tack driver straight up tat driver I would like to know your thoughts since you since you do a lot of tests what do you think about radical is what do you think about radical arms Supposedly they were out of Texas and built stuff for Leo and military So it's basically their blue line edition in addition without the blue line in gravings Basically I was trying to build a mark 12 reproduction Mine is also a stain is a stainless steel barrel Is flueted Barrow I think it ran me I think it ran me about 300.
