A wonderful, informative video. Thanks for sharing it, sir. Greetings from western Canada. As a relatively new subscriber I am really enjoying the content. Good points about Sir Winston. A Great patriot and hero of noble Britannia!
I get my moral code right from the Scriptures. Perfection is the standard. I do not mean religious matters. But a true relationship with our own Creator. Thanks, my good man, and Blessed. Ephesians 6:12.
Thank you so much Ash for those inspiring words. The Ancient Greek concept of Grace spring to mind here. It's the root word of Gratis and Gracia. It is the time and effort one gives above and beyond what is expected. It is given without reward or broadcast. It is the time you give, not only to a friend, but even a stranger who may be struggling with their life. The extra time and effort we give in helping a fellow traveller is, to me, the mark of a true gentleman. Once again, thanks for your words of encouragement Ash.
Ash - I've got an example of admitting mistakes being the best thing to do. A more senior colleague saw my reaction when I realised I'd made the mistake (it wasn't deliberate but I was mortified) & instead of reprimanding me he thanked me for admitting it. We then worked together with other colleagues to put it right & they also thanked me for admitting my mistake because they felt that other people who did a similar job to mine would've tried to pass the blame to them 😊
I more than "liked" this video. I think it is brilliant. Every point is vital as you clearly show. And I agree with them all. And have for a very long time. This video would be good in a classroom with teenage students. You have my profound respect, sir!
Nice one Ash..a superb video, thanks very much. I agree on all of these values, which truly are good for the soul, spirit, and dignity of one self to put it bluntly.
This is a brilliant little video, Ash, filled with profound insights. I really appreciated your historical references: Mahatma Gandhi, Sir Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln, and Nelson Mandela, are profound examples of men with genuine integrity, an ability to communicate hard truths to an audience in a way that would inspire rather than demoralize, an ability to express genuine empathy for the marginalized, suffering, and downtrodden, and an ability to acknowledge errors and modify their attitudes and behaviours for the benefit of themselves and of society as a whole. As the saying goes, "Be the change you want to see in the world."
For me, it boils down to each day simply striving to be a little bit better person than I was the day before. I'm only human and not always successful, but making the attempt is the important thing.
I agree with all of this when dealing with the majority of normal people. But may I note that there are a few persentage of people who are simply ungrateful, selfish and hardheaded that cannot be changed. These people avoid like the plague. Karma will make them remain lifelong unhappy.
One of your finest moments. What a presentation. I can recommend the book „The long walk to Freedom“, Mandelas biography. Life changing. To cut a long story short, you nailed it 👍🏻😎
What an amazing video. Ash, I have been following your channel for several months and enjoy your style tips. But this one is so special. I connected with all the points you made, but really love the discussion on Churchill. He was such an important figure in the shaping of our modern world. In 1940, most of the world and even most of the population of Great Britain thought that it was suicide for the country to try to stand up to Hitler. But Churchill was able to convince them that it was possible and necessary. Think about it… if Britain had capitulated in 1940, the US would likely not have entered the war against Germany, and even if they had it probably would not have been possible to beat Nazi Germany without Great Britain as a base from which to launch the assault against Nazi occupied Europe. It was Churchill’s strength of resolve and his ability to communicate it to the nation that made it all possible. I know he was not a popular leader in peacetime, but he was EXACTLY what was needed at the time.
Good advice as always Ash. Since my manly pride has been somewhat diluted due to tough times and having to ask for help I would be interested in your thoughts on how a man should carry himself in financially difficult times if you have not addressed this prior. Cheers.
Money is no measurement of the true qualities that define a chap (gentleman). Even if dirt poor, we can still exhibit the highest qualities of manners, decency and personal dignity.
My father, who barely graduated from high school, worked on the Canadian National Railway as a brakeman, shoveling coal into the boiler of a steam engine; and yet he was soft-spoken, maintained the highest moral standards, and dressed in a suit and tie whenever he was not on the job. @@TheChapsGuide
Marlon Brando is one name coming to my mind when he rejected the oscar ...another eminent person is Rabindranath Tagore who rejected his knighthood as a protest against Jalianwala Bagh massacre ....
Without the strongest navy in the world at the time and the English Channel, Churchill couldn’t convince anyone no matter how well he spoke, I’m afraid. In fact, Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi were luckily facing a post-WWII falling British Empire rather than a rising Japanese or German Empire in the 30s and 40s. I love your channel, but history is brutal…
Not related to this video but I’d like to ask about the Saphir Renovator you use. I found two versions. One mink oil based and one macadamia oil based. May I ask which one you use? Also I really enjoy the content you create. Thank you.
Nice video, but you win respect because you can fight, not because you can protest and then rely on other’s sympathy or collapse. I think we should all learn that from history as well as some recent events.
I was watching the owner of Viberg in an interview. They are amazing Canadian made boots, but he was swearing so much i didnt finish watching the interview. As well im sorry but there are other businesses out there ill support first just because of the way they present themselves. I know that im just one person and they are not going to hurt by my choice to go else where. But im sure im not the only one that instantly gets put off by unnecessary language as such. If it was a construction site and things were not working out I get it, id be swearing my head off too and have done so. But a casual conversation during and interview on a podcast is no time to be constantly dropping (f-bombs) and such. Jave some pride in yourself

Well said, fellow Mason quite literally
Scriptures are one of the worst places to get your morals from. You'd be better off flipping a coin to determine what is moral and what is not.

Great example, thank you.
Churchill was possibly the most important leader of all time.
It was disgraceful of President Obama to remove his statue in the White House Oval Office.
Great advice Ash. Always lead by example. The measure of a man is what he does when he thinks no one is watching. Thank you. Best regards Ron

Gonna start reading Remains of the Day next Monday. There is a micro exchange bookmarket at the office and where it is waiting for the next reader.
It’s a great read.
