Yeah I agreed with the move from the get go. Of course it's gonna get people emotional but an NHL franchise is a business after all and you can't just keep players around for nostalgia. Better to retool than rebuild, I think Tampa and Washington are great examples of that.
@@julianb1550 I mean, the Caps have Eller, Ovechkin, Wilson, Carlson on the team right now. Backstrom and Oshie are probably not playing again in all honesty. Interesting to see that the Metropolitan division seems to be significantly more competitive this year. I’ve had the impression that the Atlantic was full of juggernauts between the bruins, leafs, panthers and bolts for the last 5 or so years. Seems like the tide has shifted.
Happy how columbus is doing tbh. A lot of players have stepped it up such as KJ. Honestly don't think our defense is that terrible. It definitely could be improved though and Werenski has been amazing. The goaltending is weird because Tarasov has underperformed and some nights Merzilkins looks great while others he gives up 6 goals and looks terrible like on Thursday.
Have you tried in a video like this to do it by stat instead of by team? Might need to be by division instead of conference but for example put up all the GF, GFx, and 5x5 shooting and then pick out lines and players hot and cold streaks to explain the position, then the GA, GAx, and SvX and talk about the goalies and defense.

My Devils still worry me. They haven’t quite shaken off the habit of losing to sub-.500 teams-a carryover from last year. The difference this season, though, is that they’ve performed really well against the top teams. I’m excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds!

I have a potential explanation why PHI and NYI are around the 500 points percentage and why the flightless birds appear better than pathetic in the standings: reliance on overtime and shootout wins. Each of those teams have regulation wins that can be counted on one hand (as of 11-24-24). Meanwhile CBJ has 7 regulation wins with a 9-9-2 record
The metro is a grindhouse this year. The fact that one of those four teams is going to be in a wild card spot is scary for whoever finishes second in the east. Its the first year in a while that I feel like the east has little chance to win the cup just because the grind to get to the final will be that much harder than the west.
I’m beginning to wonder if CBJ and NYI should do a forward-goalie trade. Both teams are currently stacked in their respective areas, and such a trade would be mutually beneficial: Columbus gets some desperately needed strength between the pipes, while the Isles get some solid help for their ailing offense.
It's a bit crazy how the Islanders, Flyers, and Penguins have 4 regulation wins each. All three have a lot of points for winning (or losing) the 3 on 3 or shootout skills competitions, but have won 20% or less of their games in regulation. All three teams are finding themselves in overtime very very frequently (8. 6, and 7 times).
Leafs mostly red (good) over blue (not-so-good) is a good sign when compared to the other two Eastern Canadian teams and, of Western ones, the Canucks and Oilers.
