Excellent! I have 96 mustang. I have been puzzled over this issue for three years. I can hardly wait to get this fix done and can’t think you enough for the info.
Hi Robert, the way the 95 was acting, if felt like a bigger problem than what it was. You could also have it verified with a good scan tool, but the part isn't very expensive, I would just go ahead and have it replaced. They appear to be a common problem. Hope it fixes your car!
Hello, I totally understand where you are coming from on this one. Try www.greensalescompany.com , or possibly ebay. It took me a bit to find the correct ones as well. I hope this helps...and thanks for watching!!👍👍
I like the game sheet of Mustang bingo that you have! What do you get when you have replaced everything on the sheet?! Hopefully a good running Stang! Great video!
Hello there! LOL! Yes, it was a bit of a process...but thanks to Ken at Wholesale Transmission for his insight, and letting us use his scan tool, the problem finally became obvious. It's something how an inexpensive part can have such an effect on the vehicle. Thanks for watching!
Hi, The part is commonly called a manual lever position sensor, a range sensor, or even a neutral safety switch. I hope this helps you out, and thanks for watching!
The owner of the transmission shop was kind enough to lend me his scan tool. I believe it may have been a Snap-on scanner. Basically, you just need a scan tool that has the ability to monitor or graph sensor voltage inputs. That's how we found the issue with the lever position sensor. The voltage was supposed to remain static for each gear position. However, when the sensor voltage fluctuated, it made the computer command a different gear that corresponded to the sensor voltage output. Glad it was something simple in the end. Thanks again for watching!👍👍
what else could be symptoms of the range sensor? high rpm before changing gears? slipping? rpms go down when supposed to shift? i have a 1995 Mustang GT Auto. having trouble it wants to downshift at wrong times, doesnt want to shift up at other times and all.
Hi, it seems to me that when a range sensor failed, the resistance in the signal wire changes and it tells the computer to shift gears. For example, 1 ohm might be in park, 2 ohms might be in reverse, 3 ohms might be 1st gear etc. If the sensors internal resistance changes due to moisture, corrosion, or oxidization, then it gives the same effect as moving the gear selector. It sounds like you might have to have a technician drive the car and check the transmission inputs (see how all the different sensors are working ), and see which one is causing the issue. Could be shift solenoids, could be plugged orifices etc or worn or compromised internal parts. Also, I highly recommend cleaning your mass air flow sensor if it's never been cleaned before. Also, if your engine light is on, try scanning it for codes. Hope you find the issue sooner than later. Thank you for watching!👍👍
Thanks for watching! It took us a while to figure it out. Hopefully it helps someone repair their car instead of being told to replace the whole transmission.
Awesome!!! I'm so glad it helped!! One would think that there is a lot more wrong with it by how it acted up... at least it was something simple!! Thanks for watching 👍👍
@306foxbody1 What other symptoms have you came across with this Range Sensor being an issue? I've read that could cause transmission to not shift when needed
Hi, If your car won't move while in gear, and the fluid level is right up, you likely have internal trouble. It shouldn't take much for a shop to diagnose it if there is a serious problem. Hopefully, it can be easily fixed!
Hi, the part that was replaced is called a range sensor, or more commonly called a manual lever position sensor. It is on the driver's side of the transmission. Hope this helps!👍
Hi, this car has never had any cooling issues, and it's funny you mentioned this because my 95 Mustang's factory temperature gauge reads high all the time (it has a new aluminum rad, water pump, thermostat, etc). When I had the car tuned, I asked about the temperature, and they said the readout to to the laptop showed a normal temperature reading. And on my 95, the temperature reads high, the oil pressure reads high (it has a high volume oil pump as well), and the voltmeter appears to read a touch low... So far, it's been one of life's little mysteries! For me, it seems like SN95s have possible minor gauge issues... Thanks for watching!👍👍
@@ChuckVBeats I think I tried a new temp sensor in mine...It can't hurt to try it...and it's cheap to do. Because my other gauges seem to be a bit out, I'm leaning towards a possible bad ground... I'm definitely going to be asking other sn95 owners how their gauges read. My 96 mustang that I've owned for 20 years had gauges that I felt read spot on... I'm definitely going to research this more over time...
Man everytime I take off in my 94 gt 5 speed I hear a clunk sound when shifting into 1st & 2nd gear.... 3rd/4th/5th makes no clunk noises I'm lost can anyone help
Hi Mathew, it's so hard to say what it could be without seeing the car in person. However, if you could get the car on a hoist or a dyno where it can be stationary, and run through the gears, it might be easier to spot where the issue is coming from. Weather it is transmission/clutch related, or coming from the driveshaft/rear differential/differential mounting points (worn bushings etc). Also, with the extra torque on the motor mounts from initial take off, it might be good to check for worn out/broken mounts... also check for exhaust header, and pipe clearances against the body of the car, and even the steering shaft from the engine moving slightly while accelerating. There are just so many places to check...I wish I could be of more help...
Hi, I kind of lucked out. I spent more time.e and money on fuel to figure it out. The mechanic lent me his scan tool so I could drive the car and monitor all the sensors until it started to act up. In the end, about $130 for a sensor, a half hour labour, plus my fuel and time. I won't count the solenoids installed earlier because they didn't fix the problem (I probably spent 300-400 on a transmission fluid service, filter, solenoids, and labour). In the end, the average guy should be able to do this for 100-200 dollars. Hope the video helps you out. Thanks for watching!👍👍

Hey @danielkennedy9152, If only your odometer quit working, but your speedometer still shows the speed, then there is a good chance that a plastic gear inside your speedometer went bad. I believe a company called Dorman makes a little replacement gear to fix this. Just google "1994-1998 Mustang odometer gear repair kit". If both your speed and odometer don't work, the speed sensor or wiring harness to it on the side of your transmission could have an issue. As for your gears changing back and forth, if it's like the car in the video, there is a good chance your "manual lever position sensor" has gone bad. Sounds like you might have two separate small issues. I hope this helps you out. Thanks for watching!!👍👍
