I got 5/5, since "Laurel green needle" is "one" of the options?? Really? As soon as you played the 5th audio, and even before you gave the options, I had heard and written down "Laurel, green needle". How on earth is "yanny brainstorm" an option?? That is mind-blowing to me. I can definitely hear the initial and ending "L" in Laurel, but there's no way I could hear an initial and ending "Y" there, let alone "brainstorm", no matter how hard I try. Thanks for the lesson!

I got 5/5 and loved this activity since I've always been passionate about English homophones and polysemy!
I have to say number 4 had me distracted on "disenfranchised" (never heard this word before; plus I need a whole sentence to convey that in Italian) but thankfully my brain decoded "harbours" as a verb right away.
I'm looking forward to more listening activities like this one! :)

When you go to a train station in England and you ask for a ticket, to a person speaking English, behind a glass, surrounded by lots and lots of people around you talking, at the same time. That's when you know how much you can understand a foreign language. In fact, that is precisely the type of listening activity that some methodologists recommend given that it's real-life listening.

I'm not a native speaker, and I'm not living in a country in which English is the first language, (in fact it's the third one only). I don't know almost nothing (like you can hear in some American movies 😄) about grammar, and I learned "English" on my own, but it's American English and I find that British English is harder than that, so 2/5 is even more than I was expecting. Thanks for the video!

3/5: The first one really tripped me up accoustically, because there was no further context that would usually help me (obviously, that's part of this game) and I guess I've been out of school for too long for grammatical questions like the 3rd one. xD
The 2nd and 4th question were a breeze though.

I am not the listening type, and I don't listen well in any language, including my native language.
But to aid in understanding, speakers generally don't read a sentence word by word at even speed where there could be confusion.
So, "The complex (slight pause) harbours disenfranchised youth ...." instead of reciting every word at even speed is the way to say that sentence.

I confess being fluent I went in very cocky.
I cooled after the first sentence. Still got it all right, but I thought I'd do so with my eyes closed.
No no no, I needed both hearings every time, which is a first for me XD
I found the first one harder than the second though. I half expected the last one to be the infamous "Buffalo" chain. Which I never figured out by the way. Too confusing. XD
I got the third one through sheer chance. I never formally studied English, learned it "on the fly" by talking, hearing, reading. But I have little to no formal education around it beyond learning specific exceptions to unspoken rules. So I had no idea what first, second and third conditional were for instance. But I was certain, from what little I knew that it ended on past perfect.
I did not know inverted third conditional was that formal however, I use it in regular conversation. That may explain why I'm considered a little pompous in english though XD.
Considering I never set foot in an English speaking country, I'm very happy to report 5/5 though disappointed the last question was a bit of a miss XD
