7 Strings definitely have a learning curve and niche market - but I'd highly suggest trying a baritone if you haven't already! A bit easier to incorporate for many players

Austin, try tuning a 7-string's G string to F#. Then you have a baritone with a high E instead of a regular guitar with a low B. To me that's easier to wrap my head around, because low chording and riffing stays the same.
It takes a maybe a week or two of playing to get used too but once you do it's awesome I bought a cheap Ibanez GIO 7 string an it didn't take long to get used to the extra string.
If Gibson ever makes 7 string variations again, they should use a Flying V headstock on the SG and an Explorer headstock on the Les Paul.
And pray they make 5 string bass, weird to have 7 string guitar before 5 string bass
No desire to get a 7 string but enjoyed learning about it anyway!

I am in a trio doing original style of music that can go from an early Metal vibe to flatpicking clean and land on a Doom thing in the same tune. The 7 String would be the perfect guitar for the job. Impressive.

I was surprised to see that that in the black light the back plate did not glow like the truss rod cover and pickups and pickup surrounds. I had expected to see that when you flipped it over in the black light.
It’s a beautiful guitar with some extra features not found on a standard SG, I think I would like coil splits and a phase switch to extend it’s capabilities, but it’s pretty nice just like it is.
It would be awesome if all new SG’s had 24 frets, I cannot think of any good reason why they would not just add the two extra frets, the entire Epiphone Prophecy series all have 24 frets, however, they don’t offer a seventh string too.

That’s really cool, I had no idea they made a seven string, let alone 2 different models. I love the case too.
Man... I'm stoked you made this video ! And (sorry) relieved your head stock is yellowed too... I thought it was just mine. LOL
They of course have to put four tuners on one side versus three but their strategy is intelligent as the lesser string pull would be on the lower gauge strings in anticipation of any potential any neck twist. Balance Trogly, balance.
The headstock fade isn't from smoking you can tell when the truss rod cover is removed .in the 50's the headstock veneer was holly after that it was plasticized fibreboard .looks to me the white paint is reacting to the veneer

When you lost the signal to the kill switch I was able to realize what happened, but if I was working on it there is NO WAY I would have figured it out and would have been furious. That was hilarious and it’s great when you can laugh at that stuff.
Killing me! That is one amazing looking SG. White, 7 strings, 24 frets, but then...ugh..Richlite! Gibson had the nads to claim that they were "Acoustically superior"..lol..to what?
And of course, the ultimate monkey wrench is the 24.75" scale which makes the 7th string unplayable IMO. If Gibson came out with a line of already existing guitar models..LP, Firebird, Flying V, Explorer, etc, all in a 7 string 26.5" scale, 24 fret appointment, a new age would commence!
Richlite is less susceptible to changes in temperature compared to any wood. I know it's not "Trve kvlt", but IMO this is the only sensible option Gibson has ever offered, undone by their shit fretwork (don't do nibs if the string will catch). Aristedes stopped using ebony for this reason.
"Acoustically superior" is a marketing gimmick. You are never truly going to hear any natural acoustic tones through modern wax potted pickups. Modern pickups are intentionally wax potted to stop picking up the vibration feedback from the body. On electric guitars, wood negligibly affects tone, and thank God it barely does. My Gibson Les Paul sounds like hot garbage unplugged. Very nasally and mid rangey. But plug it into an amp and it warms up so nicely with beautiful chimes. That nasally sound from mahogany doesn't come through the tone in the speakers further proving it. Never let guitar shops trick you into buying something because of "tone wood."

Hey Trogly, Fender Prosonic amps are great little known custom shop beasts. They have a nice clean channel and cascading gain stages for the dirty channel. They're a great do anything amp you might want to look in to. They're not too expensive since most people don't know about them but I can highly recommend them for high gain all the way down to clean.
I'm intrigued by 6 & 7 string guitars. However, I've succeeded to play for 30k with Back in Black,(steller AC/DC Trbute Band) B.O.C and GFR in The Bone Radio Station Sponsor show on a 3 block city center in Fort Worth. My PRS CE22, and Mcarty dedication PRS Black Cherry in color. I would have loved to have had one these bad boyz for that show. The Band was Broken Toyz, not the band in LA. We're launched for shows from Dallas. We are capable enough to play with Deep Purple mk?, Scorpians and a ton of other international touring acts. Lucky to able for being even considered to play with these Entertainers. Ratt was the first at HRC in Dallas. After this BS verbosity, the point; I would have loved to play Classic Rock with a 7 string just to raise eyebrows. It would be fun as hell or whatever floats yer intrigued to see the crowd response. Itz a typical 6 string genre, 7 strings would crush this material. Guys, not chest beating as to say look at me, l know for a fact there was some kid better than me crawling or running out of the bedroom to play live. I would be crushed by a kid and to this day I am unwavering in awareness of these factors. Had to be overwhelming with abilty, showmanship my efforts to be competable and completely committed to the 6 strings for past 60 years.

Hey Trogley, you should get one of the new Line 6 Catalysts just to have on hand for anything that a Deluxe Reverb isn’t the best on. I’m a Katana user myself but the Catalyst has a much truer “tube” sound and is easy to dial a metal tone on.
Does that bridge have longer slots for better intonation? I'd like a 6-string version of that!

I live in Korea, and there is a 7-string SG here I keep looking at. Also the 24.75 scale length for a 7 string will be fine. I have an explorer in B standard, and I use a 62 for the low B and it's fine. I buy my strings from Stringjoy, so custom sets are cheap.

Just found your channel a couple days ago and have watched about 50 hours since. Could you do one of the Ibanez Bob Weir Cowboy guitars? I've always wanted to see one of those up close. The inlay on them is amazing. Really like the channel.
I had a beautiful LP standard 7 in trans amber with a great top. I wish I sold it to you. It was a great player and was surprisingly comfortable. Also 7 string pickups read hotter because the pickup is physically bigger and has more wire on it. My LP was advertised as hand wired but was also a pcb
I wish I could remember the name of the company that made straps that were supposed to hamper neck dive. Get you a line 6. Every guitarist that I know plays a seven string uses them.

I wish that baritone had trapezoid inlays. For whatever reason I NEED that on a gibson for the looks, it really completes the whole look for me.
I wish they put a banjo/firebird tuner in the middle of the crown. I just couldnt deal with the 4and3 headstock

An invader bridge is 22k from Seymour Duncan vs 8k for the neck. Maybe the color fade comes from the veneer instead of a cap. It could be that the veneer doesn’t have the same drying process as the body.
I'd love to see a video on either a baritone 6 string or a 7 string explorer. If I had the money I'd buy one of each
Not sure if you purchased this from a dealer or just some guy that was selling his gear but I dont think you should hold the same standards of condition. A dealer should know conditions. I think its not cool how you laugh at someone that might not have the knowledge.

absolutely beautiful a huge shame gibson wont make many 7 string and 8 string models of their classics!
I imagine the neck dive would be way worse with added weight on the neck from baritone scale. Looks and sounds cool either way.

I bet that it's got a maple neck. Gibson always used maple when multilaminating a neck. Looked heavy AF also.
Either way. If I wanted a guitar for that sort of usage I'd get an ESP Evertune
I think this would have gained a lot if the body was heavy enough to counter the neck dive. I'd actually like to get a luthier to make me a 7 string sg as thick as a les paul

Gibson might not scream “djent” like a Schecter or an Ibanez (I think the first 7 string I ever saw was when Korn played SNL) but they certainly put the right pickups in there, face melting! I think the higher tension strings is to try to counter the scale length (speaking as a Jaguar owner, I go up a gauge from what I normal use.)

There was a guy on a Spectre Sound's video who had a 7 string SG and it struggled to stay in tune so bad that he had to give up recording with it
An 8 string would be more attractive - I believe that ESP did this with the house LP/SG derivatives. The headstock aesthetic is better. A 4th down bass and 4th up (.007) treble is a nice range, too.
A couple of years ago i saw someone play with an all white gibson sg. Looked nice however the strap botton fell and he almost dropped the guitar.
Add a pick guard to match the truss rod cover. BOOM!
Still wandering how you'd like to have them put the same number of tuners on each side on a 7 string...
The pickups and truss rode have that "glow in the dark" vibe under black light

So why would Gibson include a cloth that would discolor the guitar's finish as part of the case candy? I don't understand.
Of course the head stock i would say, isn’t the head stock compartment close to the rest of the body? Less of a air pocket maybe yellows faster than the body body parts rests in a larger pocket.

You gotta invest in some amp diversity dude! Grab yourself a JCM 800, MB Dual Rectifier, 5150 perhaps? You always have such awesome guitars on the show, it would be worthwhile I think to change up the amps every now and again especially to highlight hotter pickups and tones that do best with higher gain amps.
