The trip through this beautiful countryside is one I will never get to see in person but very interesting even from here. I like to think about what it must have been like to blast this railroad through so much rock and tunneling must have been a brutal job. As the train goes along I see houses out in the middle of nowhere and I wonder what it is like to live there. I see no animals, no vehicles and no people. Where are all the people? Must be in the house or at work although I can't see how anyone can go to work in that snow. No kids either, maybe they are all in school but there again how would they get there in the snow? A very nice relaxing journey, and you did not forget to switch the main beams on entering a tunnel, thank you , this is the first time I've accompanied you on a reverse journey, in daylight, and through snow, I found it remarkable to note how the downhill gradients were highlighted. Regards from Scotland, ( the last time we had "real" snow which lasted for weeks was when the press dubbed it " the beast from the east,) Note - NO offence to our Nordic friends!), normally its wet snow from the Atlantic warm air mixing with the cold continental air.
I have "never" forgotten to switch on the high beam. :) This is a whole different camera used ;) This is not recorded with a GoPro, but with a legit cinema camera. So glad you found this recording enjoyable ❤️
RailCowGirl I did enjoy the trip, as I mentioned, the return trip in daylight and with snow on the ground it did highlight the steepness of some of the gradients you had to be aware of. Regards from Scotland.
Probably. I don't like the cold myself, but we're used to it. It can be really refreshing when it's freezing outside. You just have to make sure you have propper clothing :D We have a saying in Norway "Det finnes ikke dårlig vær, bare dårlig klær", translated that means "There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing". :)
So many beautiful but relatively isolated (until the early 20th century) valleys. It's no wonder there are numerous spoken language dialects in Norway.
That is so true. It's fascinating to hear a huge difference in dialect from one in one valley to the next. :) Especially here along the west coast of Norway.
General warning Level crossing Halt Level crossing and Halt at the same place added to any of the above means the driver/engineer must sound the horn between 6am and 10pm
She operates the horn for a crossing when she passes a diamond-shaped sign with a horizontal bar (or a vertical bar for a station platform). They are placed before the actual crossing to give anyone in the crossing time to get off before the train arrives. Many of the road crossings, especially in rural areas, are little lanes between farmer's fields on either side of the track, which are difficult or impossible to spot with all that snow on the ground.
= General warning = Level crossing (car og pedestrian) = Halt / platform (train that has a scheduled stop at a Halt must sound the horn) = Halt / Level crossing at the same place = Can be added to any of the above signals and means we can cut the sounding of the horn between 10pm and 6am.
@@RailCowGirl Thanks for the details, RCG. I had not figured out the first and last on this list and had been wondering about them. I'd also wondered why I heard no horn at some Halt/platform signs, which you have explained here.
@@RailCowGirl Excellent! Thank you, RailCowGirl! It is the foreign railroads, their signals and signs that I am not familiar with. (I am able to read every aspect of a USA railroad's wayside signals. Am familiar with most of the signs along a railroad as well.) Interesting! At 29:25, as you approach the tunnel the railroad installed a "snow shed" at that tunnel's portal. Must have some severe snow drifts occurring there, fouling operations! (Actually, just noted, there were snow sheds on BOTH ends of the tunnel.)
Seen another square yellow sign on point with vertical bar. Assume applies to passenger trains required to pick up at request halts an requires blow horn so customer can signal to stop? Not by this express train. Also the down speed triangles. How soon is the train supposed to achieve the indicated slower speed? Is there a specific location indicated or a general distance (x km)
You could even learn Norwegian on this train ride. "vatnet" means lake. This happens a few times in the video. And otherwise? You filmed a beautiful winter day. Nice.
It literally means the water. Vatn/Vann is water. Innsjø is lake (literally inland sea). That's just one form of Norwegian though, and we have many variations. We also use "vannet", in some cases "vass", etc. See wasser in German for comparison.
A wonderful, relaxing train ride through the beautiful Norwegian countryside under a blanket of snow - what’s not to love? I hope you are wearing a toasty uniform and have a good heater in the cab. Stay safe!! Thank you so much for the super video! ( I hope you don’t get tired of hearing that.)
@@RailCowGirl I wanna be truthful ok, The depth inside The Finse Tunnel was amazing. Once we cleared the curve I could see all the way down and I was wowed! But was there snow or ice covering the trains light? Once we pasted Fagernut passing loop I was like wow I can see the western entrance.
= General Warning = Level Crossing = Halt /platform = Halt and Level Crossing at the same place = Must sound horn between 6am and 10pm, can be added to any of the signals above.
Just from observation. Lineside control boards. Square sign on point, plain yellow, uncontrolled crossing, people only (blow horn). With bar, vehicles (blow horn). With cross, controlled crossing with gates or barrier. (blow horn optional?). Triangle point up, accelerate to number x10kph. Triangle point down, decelerate to number x 10kph. Or travel below these numbers as conditions require. Small square, top number distance from datum at ?, bottom distance into control or electrical local section. Gradient signs, up, sign out and up, down, sign out and down. Number is gradient in 0.1 x percent. Colour lights at loops and stations with multiple options. There are some smaller signs but we where going to quick to catch the detail. There are some signs which have a use in winter only to indicate track equipment which could be struck by snow ploughs, a yellow arrow with bar,.??
= General warning = Level Crossing = Halt/platform = Halt and Level Crossing at the same place = Can be added to the above signals and means Must sound horn between 6am and 10pm. = Increased line speed in the 10th system. Pointing down is warning of reduced line speed in 10th system. There are no dedicated signals for winter.

Anywhere past 45:00 I have not seen one tree out there! Talk about global warming, with all of that snow out there! (I have seen numerous older photos of our USA railroads, such as those in the region where I grew up [in SW NH] there were much fewer trees 🌳 along the railroad beds back then than there are today.) Anywhere past 1:04:00, I see there are plenty more of those snow sheds protecting the railway from the windblown snow, causing se ere snow drifts, to which will severely foul the railroad's operations.
This part of the line is above 1000 meters/3300 feet, so naturally not all kinds of plants and trees will grow. Thanks for your comment and for watching!

@@maxshenkwrites I did see a Circle K sign somewhere in the early beginnings of this video. It was on the left side just down the embankment from the railway.

This is winter. Thank you for sharing these magnificence landscapes with us. Norway remains beautiful in winter than during the other seasons.
Thankfully we got some snow now :) Was starting to think that there would be nothing this winter :D Thank's for watching ❤️
I love the landscape as you come around the curve @ 1:55:37 - The sunlight is stunning!
Mhm, that is for sure one of my favourite places as well :) Fantastic to see how it all opens up.
thank you for this video! greetings from Moscow!
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic ride through a beautiful landscape (and exciting tunnels)! Great! 👍👍 Greetings from snowy switzerland 🇨🇭🥶😁
Glad you enjoyed it!
Such a harsh yet equally beautiful landscape.... You have the best job to get to see that everyday, Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it 🎉❤️😃
Amazing ! :-)
Thank you! Cheers!
♥️♥️♥️🏆🎥🏆.

Thanks for watching!
Hi from Florida.
Pretty cool to sit and watch the snow mountains from the cabin sipping my coffee in the Morning.
Thanks for uploading this,
Best of luck to you in 2021
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
Cool vid!
Thanks!
we loved this winter rail journey.
Glad to hear that! ❤️
A very nice relaxing journey, and you did not forget to switch the main beams on entering a tunnel, thank you , this is the first time I've accompanied you on a reverse journey, in daylight, and through snow, I found it remarkable to note how the downhill gradients were highlighted.
Regards from Scotland, ( the last time we had "real" snow which lasted for weeks was when the press dubbed it " the beast from the east,)
Note - NO offence to our Nordic friends!), normally its wet snow from the Atlantic warm air mixing with the cold continental air.
Brrrr... I prefer to be warm but maybe that's why I like the snowy views so much. 👍❄👍❄👍
@@RailCowGirl ha ha ha - I think I've got some bad clothing 😁😁😁
So many beautiful but relatively isolated (until the early 20th century) valleys. It's no wonder there are numerous spoken language dialects in Norway.
That is so true. It's fascinating to hear a huge difference in dialect from one in one valley to the next. :) Especially here along the west coast of Norway.
Ваще классно
Спасибо )))))
In Oxford, England we finally have snow like this!
About time you to experience the magic! :D Finally!
Norway is a spectacular country one that one should visit in his/her lifetime.
I totally agree with this! ❤️😃
Does the train driver get a cue to sound the horn or does he/she memorise where the crossings are on each route?
General warning
Level crossing
Halt
Level crossing and Halt at the same place
added to any of the above means the driver/engineer must sound the horn between 6am and 10pm
Just wondering...why do you operate the horn when you are out in the middle of no where and not operate the horn at road crossings?
She operates the horn for a crossing when she passes a diamond-shaped sign with a horizontal bar (or a vertical bar for a station platform). They are placed before the actual crossing to give anyone in the crossing time to get off before the train arrives. Many of the road crossings, especially in rural areas, are little lanes between farmer's fields on either side of the track, which are difficult or impossible to spot with all that snow on the ground.
= General warning
= Level crossing (car og pedestrian)
= Halt / platform (train that has a scheduled stop at a Halt must sound the horn)
= Halt / Level crossing at the same place
= Can be added to any of the above signals and means we can cut the sounding of the horn between 10pm and 6am.
Am familiar with most of the signs along a railroad as well.)
Interesting! At 29:25, as you approach the tunnel the railroad installed a "snow shed" at that tunnel's portal. Must have some severe snow drifts occurring there, fouling operations! (Actually, just noted, there were snow sheds on BOTH ends of the tunnel.)
Awesome journey thanks for taking us along
Glad you enjoyed it
@@RailCowGirl I am going in Monday for cancer treatment so this makes my mind relax Thanks
Mileage Sign at 286.5 (just before Tunga tunnel) is 2x. Why? But as we say in Western New York, it's "BYOOOOO T'FULL!"
Nice video. How is the camera in regards to stabilisation?
There is no stabilization on the BMPCC6K :)
Wow frosty weather in you☀️❄️
And a lot of snow fell!
Beautiful red and yellow huts☺️
Black and white beauty of nature😍
Thanks for watching!
Nice.
You are right! And stasjon = station, pretty similar :)
It literally means the water. Vatn/Vann is water. Innsjø is lake (literally inland sea). That's just one form of Norwegian though, and we have many variations. We also use "vannet", in some cases "vass", etc. See wasser in German for comparison.
Beautiful! Do your trains and locos use regenerative brakes? That is, on declaration they generate electricity and use that to assist the brakes?
Veľmi prekrásne natočené video 😃😃😃😃.
Perfektné super 😃😃😃😃.
Srdečne pozdravujem zo Slovenska 😃😃😃😃.
Many thanks!
All that snow is so Beautiful, I love new videos RCG...even ones you sneak in from time to time.🤩
Glad you like it! Whoop whoop! :D
Did you think I did the Finse tunnel justice? ;) hehehhe :D Forgot to honk on the highest point :p
Awesome ride!!! Thank you!! :) :) :)
Glad you enjoyed it
Very Nice !!!!!!!
Glad you like it!
This video hits the top of this series. The lights on the high grounds are stunning. The true magics of winter wonderland. The land of the trolls.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Spectacular! Is there more ice in the tunnels than usual or is your new camera setup showing it better?
The camera is showing it better. :)
What happened at the last stop you passed signal failure ? Did you resolve this ?
How do u know when to blow the horn?
= General Warning
= Level Crossing
= Halt /platform
= Halt and Level Crossing at the same place
= Must sound horn between 6am and 10pm, can be added to any of the signals above.
Cadê o marcador de velocidades?
Behind the camera.
Excellent winter cabview!! Like!
Thank you very much!
There are some signs which have a use in winter only
to indicate track equipment which could be struck by snow ploughs, a yellow arrow with bar,.??
= General warning
= Level Crossing
= Halt/platform
= Halt and Level Crossing at the same place
= Can be added to the above signals and means Must sound horn between 6am and 10pm.
= Increased line speed in the 10th system. Pointing down is warning of reduced line speed in 10th system.
There are no dedicated signals for winter.
I watch these videos all the time.
Here's a tip: Play it at 2X Speed!
Very good video. But what are these block post that pop p now and then?
Interesting to see the Vosso river level compared to you video in spring?
Glad you enjoyed it!
dear RCG! what is the temperature inside the fagernut tunnel?
The video that made me think, Oslo to Bergen and return in the winter, that will be fun. February 2022 and we did it. An amazing train ride and so much snow over the top, No cab views for me but still amazing. We are back in Norway September and thinking about Bergen to Oslo and return. No cab views for me but still amazing
Finally the winter arrived in beautiful Norway ❄️ I am in Southern California where there is only one season summer 🔥, an other spectacular video 👍 thank you 🙏 RCG , btw what speed can those winds reach in the mountain pass ?
The winds in the in the mountain pass can reach 75mph if it gets really bad up there.
Thank you so much for watching :D You don't have the 12 seasons of SoCal? hehe
@@RailCowGirl 75mph that’s pretty impressive, in SoCal over the last few years we are in a constant state of drought maybe some rain 🌧 this week end 🤞
An unbeatable environment to travel by train
Glad you enjoyed it!
you can look at this forever, greetings to everyone from Russia to Navalny
Thank you so much :D
Anywhere past 45:00 I have not seen one tree out there! Talk about global warming, with all of that snow out there! (I have seen numerous older photos of our USA railroads, such as those in the region where I grew up [in SW NH] there were much fewer trees 🌳 along the railroad beds back then than there are today.)
Anywhere past 1:04:00, I see there are plenty more of those snow sheds protecting the railway from the windblown snow, causing se ere snow drifts, to which will severely foul the railroad's operations.
This part of the line is above 1000 meters/3300 feet, so naturally not all kinds of plants and trees will grow. Thanks for your comment and for watching!
Thank you, I have to go to the hospital now. You exited that tunnel around the 50 minute mark and my chin dropped so hard I dislocated it. :P What a view (the entire trip is "what a view" but that one especially for me)
Mooie video met al die sbeeuw
