I think they mean a rivalry of two teams that could meet in the finals and keep that history no matter who is on the team. There's always been solid in-conference rivals but not one with so much dominance and spectacle as the Celtics-Lakers rivalry. Bron never wins enough for their to be a true rivalry. It’s either bron winning or all another team. And none of them are consistently winning. Heat win a few and then bron goes 2 years losing to the Spurs and warriors. Then the Spurs fall off and the warriors go crazy. Then bron wins one and never gets close again be gsw. The warriors falls off and the clippers are next up. But then the clippers don’t work the way they were supposed to and bron wins. It’s so all over the place that having a consistent war can’t really ever happen. Bron has never had a true back and forth to have built up a real rivalry. It was supposed to be kd, kawhi, or Kobe. All of them kind of fell through. It’s gonna be atleast another generation before we see another possible rivalry. And it will depend on who exactly the superstars are. These guys today aren’t intense enough for that type of war.

The one bright thing about Boston being a racist town is that you've had black athletes come into that team and likely change some fans over time. There's only so many times a guy can help your team win before you start rooting for them. As good as those 80s Celtics were would they win a chip without Parish? I don't think so. They DEFINITELY wouldn't have won shit without Russell. There's still a lot of work to do but you can see the positive change if you look for it as hard as people do the negative.
