    the lakers and celtics would have met more than 3 times in the 80s if Len Bias didnt die. but imagine from 1980-89, the whole decade, either the Lakers or Celtics were in the finals. thats dominance.

    • @LuisMartinez-ew4ob
      @LuisMartinez-ew4ob 6 лет назад +14

      Len Bias and then Reggie Lewis dying resulted in many dark years for the Celtics while the Lakers went on to win more championships.

    • @GOOD-oc9kk
      @GOOD-oc9kk 5 лет назад +1

      It didn't happen so it is pointless to talk about it. Bias had a history of cocaine use according to the doctor performing the autopsy. Larry Bird stated a few years after the event that his possible drug use may have torn the team apart. Don't get me wrong , I was a Terps fan since the early 70's and especially a Bias fan but the young man made terrible choices on who his friends were.

    Just think there was no flagrant foul back then. It was just a 2 shot foul like a slap on the wrist.

    • @ave383
      @ave383 7 лет назад +2

      Stephen Lord just think they are the reason they made the league soft. LeBron didn't ask for the rule changes they did. Furthermore these flagrant today are bs. Draymond received his 2nd in game 4 and had the 1st overturned. That second foul wasn't even a regular foul let alone a flagrant. I'm sure Draymond would love their rules. He would kick the whole team in the nuts. Now are you sure you want their rules or today's rules?

    I have to admit, I only started watching basketball in the late eighties, when the Celtics-Lakers rivalry was starting to fizzle out. However, the Bulls-Pistons rivalry of 1988-91 was a comparatively shorter, more intense rivalry. Jordan and the Bulls really had an intense dislike for Isaiah Thomas and the Pistons.

    • @kevinaraujo4945
      @kevinaraujo4945 4 года назад +1

      I agree my favorite thing to do as a kid from Boston was watching the showtime Lakers. The Legends you just named could also play defense. They are all big at there positions with Magic and Copper in the backcourt the 3point shots would be contested. Plus i don't think the Warriors could run with the lakers by the 3rd quarter the Warriors would be asking for some oxygen. The Lakers would run the Warriors out of the gym. Warriors have no one to guard Magic, Worthy or Kareem. If not a clean sweep Lakers in 5.

    It seems Worthy isn't aware that Rambis isn't Clark Kent after all. After this game, Worthy became super aggressive(especially during dustups.) If I were on the Celtic's at that time, that's who I would go after. Not to take him out of the game--but to just see if he was as tough as he was presenting. I suspect he wasn't

    Don't like these era questions because the game has changed so much from 80-90s to what it is now in the later 2010s that teams had to make their rosters based on how the league was played back then. On top of that, players rarely left the teams they were drafted by like they do today in order to chase for rings at the prime of their careers. Guys like Barkley, Malone, and Payton did eventually change teams, but by then they were in like their mid to mid-late 30s then. The key difference with players today is that they're being pretty much forced to leave the teams their on because of the clear super-teams that make players join up to beat them. Starting with the Big 3 in Boston, LeBron left for Miami and created a super-team to beat them, and then he left for Cleveland to create another super-team there. The Warriors then created an even greater super-team to then to beat the super-team over in Cleveland after losing to them the year before.I don't know what super-team could be created to beat the Warriors team now, but I have no doubts that a couple teams (including) the Cavs will now be trying to make other star players leave their teams in hopes to create another or better super-team in an attempt to beat them then.

    Celtics couldn’t beat Lakers at Lakers game. That speed/skill on fast break -arguably best ever- but in a physical game, half court game; Celtics had advantage. Lakers were dang good in half court too-but Magic & Worthy blossomed their half court game in later 1980s. 1985 Celtics lost primarily due to Bird playing with hurt hand. Boy it would have been a great matchup of 86 Celtics vs. 87 Lakers

    Lol... Mchale would be out for the rest of the Finals if that happened now. I'm old enough to remember that game. I think he just got t'd up and that was it. Different league then... Now if LBJ pushes you down and walks over you your getting suspended a game for retaliating back. I know Draymond had flagrant fouls already but LBJ was obviously trying to provoke Draymond to get him suspended.... Should of lessened the foul call...

    2:47 C'mon James! Isn't Watts a part of LA? I believe they had some racial tension there in '65 and again in '92, didn't they? Brothers beat the snot outta some poor truck driver in LA in '92 because he was white, didn't they? Funny thing was, Bird didn't see color and I wonder how Henderson, Maxwell, Parish, Johnson, Buckner, and the other bro's felt about the Celtics being labeled as a "white team". I'll bet they liked their championship rings, though!!

  • @watchmanonthewall14

    Most of the time, the best team wins, but in 1984, the best team did not win. Boston got outplayed badly in games one and two, as the Lakers athleticism was off the charts. So Boston resorted to dirty play and rattled the Lakers. And I mean DIRTY. And that right there was the beginning of dirty play throughout the entire NBA for the next 20 years, which makes for extremely ugly basketball. The Lakers had no choice but to toughen up from then on, and beat the Celtics hence forth. But for pure basketball, watching those showtime Lakers was like watching a symphony.

      Boston has a weird mix of "blue" voters - the liberal collegiate/academic/tech/high earning types as well as the blue collar workers. But it's not all "liberal" - i'm from Boston and we haven't exactly wrapped ourselves in glory when it comes to race relations. That said, I can't imagine it is anywhere near as bad as it was in the 70's with the bussing stuff. That looked brutal. I wasn't born yet so I can't say for sure....

  • @SuperIliad

    I lived in Los Angeles in the first Lakers' glory years and I can tell you that the color line was drawn in bold. Neighborhoods were restricted. Even an American icon Nat king Cole, who bought a house in a white neighborhod, was harassed and threatened. LA was only a tad less Jim Crow than the deep South. Sorry, James. By the late seventies, things had improved somewhat; but LA can't hold its record of discrimination proudly against Boston.
