Was watching the 30 for 30 earlier about the 84 finals and I remember magic bringing that whole fire alarm thing up and how distracting everything and everyone was in Boston at that time from the room service to the airport workers. Crazy cause that's how it was back then now you can't even get close to player without getting tackled by a security guard.

When people are petty and call the Celtics cheaters for not giving the away team a 5 star resort in their locker rooms... That's not near cheating because there has never been a rule against it, and there probably never will be. It's similar to using the Warriors in 2k17, it's not cheating, but rather getting an advantage over the other team. That may be a shitty thing to do, but it's legal and other teams can choose to do what Boston does to make an even playing field.

I've been a Laker fan since the early 80's.Believe it or not I liked the Knicks when Walt Frazier,Earl Monroe,Dave Debusher(don't know if I'm spelling his name right) Willis Reed Knicks then they became a laughing stock and I lost interest. They became relevant again under Pat Riley but I was already locked on Lakers.

Not really, the Celtics had the best regular season record, if you go record wise, they were the best team, not the Lakers, so the best team won.
@@Mrd9960 Yeah, You can by their records if you want but did they play identical schedules? You'd be the first person I ever heard of saying the 84 Celtics had more talent than the 84 Lakers. The Celtics had a better record in season but if you recall the 1979 ISU Sycamores were 33-0 going into the final against a Michigan State team that was 25-5. Michigan St was by far the better team regardless of the record. I don't think overall record is reasonable comparison unless they play in the same division. Furthermore Magic missed an entire month and the Lakers played .500 ball while he was out. After that the Lakers won both games in-season vs Boston. In the Finals after 4 games the series was 2-2 and the Celtics had not even held a lead during regulation through 4 games. The Celtics got in the heads of the Lakers and the Lakers self-destructed. Heat wave with 98 and 91 degrees for Game 5 and 7. Worthy was demoralized and caved under the pressure. The Celtics used every trick in the book
Adam R Well in my opinion, the east was alot tougher than the west, you had the 76ers, the Bucks, the Knicks, the Pistons, it was a dog fight every year to get to the finals, Bird was mvp 3 straight years, from 84, 85 and 86, every year they had the best record, if they were more talented then they should have won, don't give me the excuse that it was too hot, come on, both teams were playing in the same conditions and the Lakers folded and couldn't handle it, the most talented team doesn't always win all the time, it's the team who makes the clutch shots/plays, same could be said in 1982, when the Celtics lost to the 76ers, they were the better team but Tiny Archibald got hurt and that screwed up the whole series, the western conference was alot weaker in competition, if the Lakers played in the east, they would have had a tougher time, playing Milwaukee, Detroit, the Knicks, the Sixers, it would have been a whole different story, if you go position by position, they are split even I think, Magic vs Dennis Johnson, of course i give an edge to Magic, but Dennis Johnson proved he guarded him really good, from game 4-7 in 84, Byron Scott vs Danny Ainge, that's a push, both were really good shooters who could make plays, Kareem vs Parish, I give Kareem an edge, but it's not by alot, Parish played him really good in that series and in some cases over powered him, Bird vs Worthy or Cooper I give a big edge to Bird, Worthy could not guard him one on one, had alot of trouble, Cooper was alot better, but Bird still found ways of scoring, Maxwell/ McHale, vs Rambis, that's a joke, no contest there, either one would make him look stupid, also I think overall, the Celtics bench players played alot better than the Lakers, when they rested their starters, so that really helped alot.

I'm not giving an excuse that it was too hot. I'm saying the Celtics had no business being in the series but somehow clawed to a 2-2 tie. Game 5 offered 98 degree heat. The Celtics played in an arena with No A/C and the Lakers played in the modern Forum at room temp. The Celtics were led by a tireless Bird who played all summer long in hotter weather. Kareem had Migraines. Big advantages for the Celtics in Game 5 and none of it is based on talent. You're right...the Lakers couldn't handle the heat but that has nothing to do with Basketball talent. I will always believe the Celtics used every trick to win that series and it Galvanized Magic and Lakers. But I don't think the Celtics won on talent. I agree the East was tougher overall but I don't think LA would have been stopped by any of those teams 84-88

Lakers are the better franchise than the Celtics. Celtics won most of their titles in the 60's when the league wasn't established with lower competition and a lot less teams. Since the 80's till now the Lakers have won 10 titles to the Celtics 4. Since the 2000's the Lakers have been to 7 finals Celtics only 2. Lakers have been more consistent throughout the eras of nba history.

@@irishgrl 85 they were completely healthy, except for Bird's shooting finger, their bench wasn't as good as the year before, losing Maxwell and Gerald Henderson, 85 they simply got outplayed and deserved to lose, 87 might be another story, they were decimated with injuries all year, it was a miracle they even got to the finals.
