Same here. You know, throughout the TV series my wife would tell me how much unlike some of the actors looked vs the real life coaches, players, etc. Especially Adrian Brody who played Coach Riley. I'd agree with her on a few, but look at this clip vs the same clip in the show. He actually looks a lot like Riles. The kid that played Magic nailed him as well, down to his mannerisms and how he looked on the court. The Michael Cooper actor too. I could go on and on. Kudos to him and the other actors for putting together such as great show. I look forward to seeing a few win some Emmy's and Golden Globes perhaps and of course, next season! This is a great show and there's enough Lakers drama to run it 10-20 seasons!

I can’t believe people actually try to hate on winning time…it’s an amazing show
because soooooo many things are not factual - a lot of embellishment. Here and there is ok, but way too many circumstances are either exaggerated or simply just made up for dramatic purposes.
@@2taggs2 but the show mentions that it isn’t a documentary..I don’t get why people are so upset about it..personally I love the show but the broad strokes of it all that are factual is crazy…I mean if Jack doesn’t get into that accident do we ever really hear about Pat Riley??!

@@robertotrevino1796 bc people just assume that's what really happened. Not to mention, they didn't need to add any "drama" or fiction - this is an interesting story as is. Ask Jerry West how he feels about this - just bc it's a disclaimer, doesn't make it right to fictionalize anyone they chose.

Jerry Buss’s voice is fascinating! He sounds like a 21 year old! Norm Nixon’s son playing his dad and Adrien Brody playing Pat Riley was genius casting!
Brody was truly inspired casting. There were so many great performances in this series. Wood Harris was a stand out and John C. Reilly should get a damn Emmy for that performance

"Winning Time" is one of the most entertaining series I have ever seen. I don't care if some of it is made up. It's great to watch. I hope they "make up" enough scenes in the 2nd series to make it as entertaining as the first. I'm REALLY looking forward to it.
This is the actual celebration. Winning Time did a excellent job re-creating the scene almost word for word. I thought AB's portrayal of Riley's nervous gum chewing was his idea for effect. But Riles is chewing away, at the same pace. Great acting, I guess, but enjoyed both.

Pat Riley went from Urkel to Stefon in about two years. The amazing thing about this game was it was shown on tape delay to every city except Los Angeles & Philadelphia

Yes there will be if cloning becomes viable scientifically, and there is enough DNA material of Dr. Buss to facilitate the process, so it's a weird thing to say conclusively unless you're a qualified geneticist.

When David Stern took over NBA’S commissioner he changed the whole outlook of the nba and understood it was the players who was gone propel the league.starting with magic and bird and eventually Jordan.
I’ll bet John Wooden was proud. Wilkes and Jabbar, two of the best from two of his best teams the Walton Gang and of course Alcindor’s Aces.
When Dr. Buss first bought the Lakers he visited my father’s USC fraternity hoping to convince them to show support. No one cared more about the Lakers before, or since Dr. Jerry Buss (sorry Mr. West).

The utmost respect they had for Kareem showed this team who officially won that MVP. What a great franchise and the development of Showtime Lakers. Shout out to Jack Mckinney who built this masterpiece but never got the full credit he deserves (except from Norm Nixon).
It really is an entertaining show but it would have been moving if the show, when portraying this moment, depicted the entire team making the title win all about Kareem. In the show Magic made it about Kareem ....for a moment.....but then talks about how HE had to take over and how HE had to get the job done, and how HE proved doubters wrong and proved that HE, Magic, is a winner. In real life, as you can hear in this clip, he spoke more selflessly.
Westhead quoting Shakespeare then Riley screaming “LETS KILL THOSE FUCKERS!” was HILARIOUS! Spit out my popcorn laughing at that! I freaking LOVED SHOWTIME! Before the Lakers became the Lebrons. Smh

My proudest moment as a Lakers fan. I watched the Lakers throughout the 70's and just 3 years previous to this we were swept by Bill Walton and the Blazers in the 77 WCF. I never thought this would be possible but it actually happened. In my young 1980 mind I had accepted the Lakers wouldn't win a championship and we could never beat the Russians in the Olympics in hockey. In a matter of 4 months - both happened...I miss those days...
What a show Winning Time, very entertaining, with great writing, and acting, and even the less than welcoming thoughts from those who most lived it, adds to the intrigue in my eyes.

The most accurate portrayal in wining time was the actor that played Norm Nixon, hands down.
Somebody just sold a 1980 Magic/Bird rookie card for over $500k. I used to see those everywhere in the early 90s for $800 or whatever. Crazy. They really did save the NBA. It was nothing before them
i remember as a kid tried to save up to get the magic bird rookie card but it was about 400 think like 94 but didnt make enough over summer.

It was odd how prominent Pat was as an assistant coach, since when do assistants get interviewed on the championship podium
I think it was mainly due to the fact that he was a former player of the last Lakers title team. Good person to interview to show context of where the franchise had been and where it was going.

It was fun because this is my favorite sports team of all time. I just laughed at the exaggerations and inaccuracies. Glad this team is being given the spotlight all these years later.
The Showtime Lakers are the one team most responsible for the NBA growing across the world. This was also the best team I've seen.

Los Angeles, even though a huge city at the time in terms of population, still had a hometown feel. Jerry Buss was a guy with a PhD in chemistry from the Great Basin (Salt Lake City and Wyoming) that started dabbling in real estate as a part time income, and ended up owning the Lakers and the Kings.
