The Binyang Blues pedal is a favourite and great value. Actually the whole series of Binyang is great. Tomsline are good quality too. My favourite overdrive tone is a new Irin Bass Fuzz Distortion pedal boosted by a Scuru Fuzz Face on minimum gain. It's very zz top type of tone with jack white fuzz.
this "Blues" pedal is a very good pedal, for me its beacome a JAZZ EQD STRAT NECK PUP, just changed the place, now 2nd afte my first inline Mad Prof Simble, 27€s and VERY NICE!! I cancelled the second order, but just hours ago ordered a 2nd one, its a magical warm soo swell eqd Fet -trans ped! I know Ive ramparted about Touch Sense, and this pedal HAS it! but the Eq is soo wonderful: every note I Play has warmth..... my settings: GAIN 0, TONE 10, LEVEL to taste!! Love Ya Derek, keep this Pedal under covers, and try it later "easy" with no pressure, and Youll Probably find its a keeper! This Aroma Tomsline BLUES ABS-1 has a Very good eq in it , if it was labelled JAZZ , or BLUE JAZZ , Id woud get it !! I Love you Derek, Kimmo
Hi Derek, I have a friend who is always going on about all kinds of arcane guitar stuff and one of the things he always brings up is the ‘transparency’ of certain pedals. I think your video is a good example of what he means in that what I am hearing most is the beautiful tones of your Fender Hot Rod. My Boss Blues Driver is like this and if I put it in front of my 5w Bugera it is a little snarly unlike the creaminess I get from the Fender Champ. You’ve got a very nice combo there with this pedal. Thanks for bringing it to us. Cheers.
Cheers Brad, i thought it was a little gem of a pedal, well worth checking out, i'm never sure of transparency, only that it means it's doesn't really colour/color :) the sound and thanks for the comparison, i'd definitely like to try a 5w Bugera amp, what do you think of it? is it made by Behringer? cheers dude
Derek Paul Guitar If I am totally honest I would say that with the Bugera 5w you get 80% of the Fender Champ 57 Reissue for 20% of the Fender price. That last 20% is worth it in my opinion, but if I didn’t have the Champ and I could only keep one of my six amps it would be the 5w Bugera. I also own the 22w Bugera, the dreaded blue pilot light version but it is a great amp as well. I think the bugs have been worked out of the 5w and I can highly recommend it especially in a noise challenged situation because the Champ is very loud on almost every setting.
@@BRLaue Superb cheers Brad, i learn something new every time i speak to you, i'll check that amp out then as i keep coming across it and it catches my attention, i think i'm in the market for a smaller amp (my 40w Hotrod is amazing and i'll keep it but it's not ideal for practice) cheers man and stay safe and well
It gets you well into the neighborhood. I don't have a fancy blues deiver pedal like the BD2, but I do think that was who this pedal was inspired by. I noticed that there are a little cleaner highs on the BD2 and the low end isn't quite as dark. You can get around that with this pedal by boosting it a bit. Overall though, this went from borderline buyer's remorse to my go to pedal after an hour or so of tinkering with the sound. I like the smooth and warm sound very much, and this really does get there. It's a great pedal and gets you totally in the neighborhood soundwise.
Simon Templar cheers man, I had to okay with it a little but I’m so used to the sound of the ODR-1 so that’s always my benchmark, this pedal does a great bluesy type tone, I also like that it isn’t fizzy at the top end, it keeps its saturation but as you say once you play with it a bit you can get your sound out of it.
It sounds closer to a BD-2 than a bluesbreaker, but the Tomsline has way more low end (too much for some of my amps - it definitely likes bigger full-range amps more than little 5watt combos). It has that 'distortion' character to it, so it's probably hard-clipping after the gain stage (also what a blues driver does). The closest pedal I have that sounds like this... The Joyo Taichi 'signature' pedal with the yin-yang thing on it (not the new dumble pedal from Joyo's R-Series). Both are what I call "blues distortion" pedals. Great for slide work!!
@@DerekPaulGuitar Perhaps not a deal breaker but I do not care for the control layout. I know I am being picky but I would much prefer the tone knob to be in the middle like an Ibanez Tube Screamer, Boss Blues Driver, Fulltone OCD, EHX Big Muff, etc….The control layout is what bothers me about the Boss Distortion DS-1, (a smaller knob level control is in the middle). Even Pro Co Rat is somewhat inconvenient in that the filter control works in the opposite direction of a standard tone control. This can temporarily mess you up when you are trying to dial in your sound.
@@DerekPaulGuitar Thank you for posting. I’ve seen other posts by you, such as the Ibanez AC-340. I always wanted an orchestra sized mahogany acoustic guitar & fancied a Martin 000M, but not the price tag. Most of my acoustics are dreadnought. You have good taste in budget gear & gear in general. I suspect that you have higher end gear in the collection as many viewers do. I wanted to buy the AC-240 opn but Ibanez discontinued it years ago & substituted it with the AC-340 opn. I picked up a clean but used AC-240 opn at Guitar Ctr. For $195. plus tax. By the time I picked up matching Ibanez case on-line, the whole package ended up costing a little over $325, which is a pretty good deal. It was probably traded back in because the action was so high. I ended up filing down the saddle myself to make it more playable.
