      Well you have to be gentle, and he also said using a knife probably wasn't the best tool. *shrugs* I used a knife and it was fine. I actually had to do it on the space bar, that's the easiest to break, and all I had to do was alternate sides and jiggle jiggle a little.

    Thanks a lot, Johnny. Distilled vinegar worked wonders for me

    • @profounddog3831
      @profounddog3831 2 года назад +3

      I would suggest to not use that since it's acidic and can accelerate corrosion on the parts. Alcohol is better since it doesn't corrode anything, secondly, it evaporates pretty much in seconds. As compared to vinegar which can stay for hours since it's not volatile.
      But yeah, the cleaning power is pretty similar for both chemicals. I'm glad your laptop didn't react to the vinegar.

    Word of warning, if you want to avoid potential shorts, unplug your laptop and pull out the battery, after applying any liquid to your keys, make sure to wait at minimum 20-50 minutes to let the keys air dry. After they have dried, I suggest testing the keys before re-applying the key caps, that way the plastic parts don't get worn down by friction from repeatedly taking them off and on again. Lastly, a toothpick or sewing needle will be a bit more precise in applying the pressure needed to pull off the keys, reduces risk of damaging the fragile plastic parts beneath.
    Note, these measures will reduce risk of permanent damage but will not fully mitigate the possibility of accidental damage to your keyboard, BUT it may still be worth a try when done with utmost caution. Isopropyl alcohol, cotton swabs, and toothpicks are infinitely cheaper than taking your machine in to a computer repair shop. Be careful so that should this fix not work, you don't increase the potential cost to have your computer fixed.
