Same here! I live in the same zone as you so I am hoping I can learn from you and my first attempt will be fruitful. Thank you for making such good content. I love watching all your videos!
Jess from Roots and Refuge has very wisely always said that "while we are waiting for our dreams to come to fruition, we can turn our waiting room into our classroom." 😊
I have a friend whose neighbor is notorious for spraying. She spoke with them and asked to leave the fence line be, and she would take care of it with natural pesticide (vinegar, salt and water). Doing this they both get what they want, chemical free pesticide and a weed free fence line! Try talking to the neighbor, you may be surprised
your channel is my latest YT obsession. Your narration, editing and content make you must watch as soon as i am notified! great job. i've learned a lot from you already. thank you for sharing your gardening evolution.
Hi Bre, This was a lovely episode. I love that you have created a hard working, no fuss garden focusing on productivity on an average home footprint. It’s so beautiful in its own right.
Me neighbor did the same with round up and the wind blows from his house towards my mine. I lost most of my tomatoes my 1st year at the house. I can tell every time he sprays. My leaves turned upside down, curled and struggled.
@@itsbreellis same. We live in a windy area and we are downwind from this neighbor. I moved my tomatoes this year and hoping they do better. Crazy that I can tell within 1/2 day he sprayed even if I am not home. Its instant leaves upside down and curling
Your blanket idea is awesome!! It's worth asking your neighbor to be mindful of your garden. They might have not even thought of it and probably would be sorry this happened. At least if they can let you know when, you'd be able to prepare. I'd assume they'd be willing to work with you. Hopefully... some people can be jerks but generally I'd give them a chance to at least be aware and work with you
Keep up the good work. You were talking about times to harvest at about 6:00. Greg over at Hoss tools said on a recent video that days to harvest is when either the sees or transplant gets in the ground. Harvest didn't make a difference with starting seeds in trays. I haven't tracked that very well as I am a newer gardener, but doesn't what you said support that? Just curious your thoughts on that. I think I am going to have to start tracking that. At 31:54 you were talking about flash freezing, we learned that lesson hard this past winter as we discovered some of our harvest had turned to solid hunks of ice. 😟 You straw method for removing the air is sure effective. I am going to have to do that! I'm over in Destin, Florida... humidity here is rough, too.
This is my first time watching your channel and your voice is so soothing and nice to listen too! I love how you do well everything!! One day I hope to live this life style!❤❤
you’re one of the reasons i was inspired to start gardening. i don’t have much space but my balcony and 50% of my seeds have germinated since early-mid june! i can’t wait to see my “garden” expand over the years 🌱❤️
Hey Bre, Super fun video. I am so excited about the garlic mine is a good 3-4 weeks from harvest all are hardneck. I might pull one tomorrow just to see how it is coming. I like freezing the vegetables the way you did I do like canning but this is a great alternative faster easier. I do love random sporadic vlogs. You have a great speaking voice and a very calm smooth flow to your voice. This really makes the sound so much better and easier to listen to. Thank you for this video today take care and Be Safe in this heat! Steven
The freshness of the paprika powder when you use it is going to be remarkable. I am only growing jalapeño’s this year but will grow a variety again next year and for sure I will be doing paprika powder. I’m curious if you remember how many peppers you freeze dried to get that amount of paprika? You were definitely busy!
Just found your channel and I love!!! You’re so cute and fun!! I haven’t worked up the courage to do vegetables but I am in my flowers/herb era. Poppies! Dahlias! Wildflowers! Peonies! Basil! Ginger! Mint! So much fun to garden!! Hopefully next year I’ll try my hand at radishes and carrots and whatever I get my hands on lol
I just found your channel via Instagram and I'm obsessed😮💨🔥 I'm probably your age but I want to be you when I grow up!! As soon as I can get a house, I'm ready to start my garden

Hi Bre, absolutely love your channel and all the info you give. Your love and excitement is contagious. Can’t wait to see how the zinnia’s do as that is one of my favorite flowers along with sunflowers. Have a great weekend Bre
Great vid Bre! 🥰🥰 thanks for taking us along your days. It’s a great encouragement for me to watch and keep going in this heat 🥵 lol Could you share which red pepper you used for making the paprika? It looks like the Carmen from Johnnys seeds, but I’m not sure. Thanks!
I just starting liking humidity domes the last 2 seasons. This season I used them in the garden. Dollar tree had some milky plastics cups that I used during direct seed sow. They worked amazing and I can now say I am totally hooked.
Random tip to get rid of stickers on pots is to use lemon essential oil or even just cut a lemon and let it sit on the sticker and marinate there for a bit before scrubbing it off easily. Lemon essential oil works best.
Ill look into that, thanks for sharing! Ive never had issues like that with japanese beetles, they have always made my leaves have holes. I also haven't grown this many beans up a trellis, so new experience regardless lol. Not ruling anything out, there's so many random things that can go on in gardening. Everything I read into, and saw lead me to thinking it was probably herbicide damage. Regardless I can't be to mad a few plants arnt doing well when the garden has been thriving otherwise.
Great video. So much information on so many different subjects. I looked on my extension website and didn't find any info like you described. Did you do a search for fall planting?
Thank you! Maybe try googling fall gardening - state or your county and see if something pops up then. Sometimes the articles will come directly from the college and not off the extension webpage in my experience! Hope that helps!
Bacterial wilt could have occurred also, but they probably sprayed the weeds beside their fence. At least it's just your neighbors, our power company sprays the side roads with tons of roundup every year. 😢
Yes! There were somethings that didn’t check out with bacterial wilt and since I saw the neighbors and started to have the issues slightly after, I ruled it as that. No way to be 100% positive but I believe that was the issue considering I’m not having any other issues with anything else outside of the few plants and also the green bean leaves. But that’s one reason we haven’t moved to the country, most land that pops up is surround my commercial farms and it’s so hard to find land that isn’t sprayed.
Can you talk more about how to look up .. I think you said… “ad extension.” where can you find that information for your region. How do you know you’re looking at a reputable source
Hi! Do you have to worry about the chickens in the heat? Do you do anything differently while it’s so hot/ humid? Also- when you plant your fall garden- is it supposed to be cool already? Like- broccoli, plant starts indoors and then put it in the ground in August???? August is still so hot? I thought they didn’t like heat?
Yes and no with the chickens. My trees helps shade their area so that helps a lot. I give them electrolytes and such in their water to help too! Sometimes give them a cold treat like melon or ice in water to help. As far as fall gardening goes Kansas can be tricky for that reason. I tend to plant in shade areas to help/ watch the weather before planting.
I was wondering about what procedures you have to do for harvesting to ensure that there is no contamination of bacteria that could be harmful. I noticed when you handled the clean produce you wear gloves
I’m so sorry about your plants but thank you for the reminder about fall planting. Do you happen to have the dimensions for your coop? It seems like the perfect size.
Geez i swear some people you would think not to spray anything like that when it's windy out, i have a neighbor that's somewhat of the same with his grass. I honestly want to say well your killing your soil with all these chemicals so that's probably why your grass is horrible
Ok just started your video, and the potential herbicide drip has me RAGING! Spraying on a windy day?! Spraying at all pisses be off but seriously, insert all the expletives here!!! Very very mad for you on your behalf 🤬
Round up and other herbicides are the worst. The amount the average person uses is rediculous, I can understand it for Japanese knotweed/other invasives but blindly spraying your lawn is kinda whack
I agree! Also I don’t understand the mentality of killing a weed with poison only to just leave it in the ground as a now dead weed. A neighbor does this and their house ends up just surrounded by dead weeds.
I just love seeing you living the dream, i hope that by continually watching your content, when i have land I'll just know exactly what to do!

What kind of fence do you have between your property and the neighbors? If chain- link, I would use a roll of matting to block wind and round up.

To help with odor and flies in the hen house, grow enough mint/mint relatives to chop and spread in the coop.
