Thank goodness it was all cash! She'll be able to pay the income tax easier. There were those who won non-cash prizes and couldn't afford to keep them. The thought of the income tax owing always spoiled game shows for me, especially the thought of trying to sell prizes for enough to pay for the income tax. 😢
That's what you get living in the states. Here in Australia we don't have to pay taxes on things we win on game shows. No tax on lotto winnings in the first year either.

I was watching this episode when it aired. This lady was just pure lucky. Had solved absolutely no puzzles at all. On the final spin the amount per word was 5000, and so she was lucky enough to solve that puzzle with 47000. The rest is history. Unfair if you ask me.
That's life. Some people get lucky by being in the right place at the right time. Rock Hudson was a truck driver. Harrison Ford was a carpenter. Madonna was homeless. They all got lucky.
Unfair? The number of people who've won on game shows is a tiny fraction of the number of people who have won the lottery, which is played all over the world. After taxes, this woman will maybe have enough to buy a luxury car. That is nothing compared to the people who win hundreds of millions of dollars (which is more than the annual budgets of many municipalities!) in just a single lotto or powerball event. Saying a game show winner is unfair is like saying old ladies winning at bingo is unfair - it's, frankly, absurd. Someone being handed a check for 700 million dollars because they bought the right $1 ticket at the right store at the right time.... now that's unfair!
5000 per word?I think you mean per letters. As far as being unfair goes that could of happen to any of them I am sure the other players probly had a chance to get more money then her but failed on the high spins.
As dominant as he is at trivia, Wheel is a totally different skill set and also leans a lot more heavily on luck (or "fortune," if you will). The best player usually wins on Jeopardy! but one mistake or unlucky spin can really derail a winning WoF performance. Nothing against Wheel, of course--the luck of the spin is what has made it fun to watch for so long.
