I just saw this and I have all kinds of questions.
    1. How did the 5-6 yr old get the gun and why the parents are not being charged.
    2. Why the assistant principal and not the actual principal is being charged.
    3. Why neither teacher is being charged?
    4. Why the heck would you call the assistant principal anyway??
    5. What about the security guard why isnt he involved.
    6. What athority does the assistant principal have than all other fauclty members when it comes to firearm safety. Meaning the teach that saw the gun on site didnt attempt to remove it, because they needed her?

So let me get this straight. All these teachers were told about the threat but no one took action? Now it's all on the administrator? I agree she should have taken action after the first report but after that I'm going to need someone to take responsibility for the safety of the children and other staff.
Don't come tell the boss you saw the building is on fire. Pull the alarm and take action yourself.

This thing actually happened when I was in the Corps on the flight line. We had a fire and rather than get the fire bottles and qualified Marines to put the fire out, they sprinted 500 yards to tell the Maintenance chief. Chief sarcastically said "good thing you ran past all those fire bottles on the way here Marine, wouldn't want to waste the mixture you Rockstar" I saw stuff like this everyday when I was serving. Everyone is so afraid of being responsible that when something goes wrong you run and tell boss instead of just dealing with it. However I have also worked in environment where "fixing" problems got you fired.

Problem is this - Schools will not call real police until something like this happens . They want to keep it internally and deal with it themselves . But here the school staff notified the person that was suppose to deal with incidents like students capable of violent outburst. As I see it the former assistant just blew it off and now she becomes the target of a new chapter to be held accountable for failure to act when a real threat was evident .

When I first heard of this incident, I correctly guessed the race of the shooter. Then I figured after multiple reports by fellow students that he had a firearm, the adults were scared of racism charges. If they searched him and couldn't find a weapon, his parent's would have sued the school, with the teachers probably being fired.

The teachers did not see the gun, they reported that 2 different children had claimed to see the gun but when they searched his backpack it wasn't there. The teacher who was shot said she thought she saw him take something from the backpack and put it in his pocket, but they needed permission from the AP to search the boy himself and the AP explicitly denied permission to search him, snidely saying that his pockets were too small for a gun. 20 minutes later he shot his teacher in the chest
