Jokic should win the MVP for the 3rd time and I am black. They need two awards "Most Valuable Player to his team"/"Most Valuable Player based on statistics". Winning the MVP doesn't mean that the MVP is the best player in the world!

It's not racism that's driving this Jokic MVP case, it's advanced analytics and taking out the eye-test when voting. Plus, I don't even think it's nuts to say that Jokic is the MVP in his first and third years, it's the last year that's the killer in this narrative, because his team was the sixth seed. But, as some people point out, voters had a difficult time not giving it to Jokic last season, when he had a statistically better season the prior year. If Embiid won last year and Jokic still wins this year, this wouldn't even be a debate.

And to whom would you give the MVP then last season for example? Embiid? He got SWEPT in the 1st round in 2020 and NEVER made it to the Conference Finals even with multiple All-Stars & DPOY candidates / All-Defensive Team selections and winners (Harden - top 75 player All-time, Jimmy Butler, Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris, marksmen like Seth Curry & JJ, phenoms like Tyrese Maxey, even last season they had Thybulle - All-Defensive team selection). Hope for them that they'll make it cuz they have no excuse. Yet you never call him out. Ever. It's a team's game at the end. Can't do it alone. Look at the Nets fiasco for example. Denver's gotta win a title or get to the WCF this year, to prove he's where the analytics crowd have placed him.
What started the conversation was perk and stephen a. Discussing whos under the most pressure to win a title this year. And perk was pointing out how jokic shouldve been at the top because he is the back to back mvp and he's been getting a pass. Because all the other 2time mvps the voters wouldn't vote for them that 3rd year because they hadnt won a title. Steph bron giannis, the voters did that. And chris has talked about voter fatigue dozens of times on first things first. And hes a voter so he knows. But anyway that was what started it... Imo from what ive seen over the past 3-4years there has been an extreme media narrative of joker and luka as the 2 best players in nba and thats crazy, while you still have bron kd steph and giannis playing
Historical precedent ended when Westbrook won mvp. Before Westbrook won mvp at least there was an obvious criteria to winning mvp. “Be the best player on a top 4 seeded team with the least amount of help.” That was the criteria for winning mvp. Westbrook was not on a top seeded team that year. So him winning mvp that year was a big slap in the face to 2006 Kobe Bryant and 1962 Oscar Robinson and 1962 Wilt. The argument why those three didn’t win mvp those years was because their team wasn’t a high enough seed. But then all of sudden Westbrook won mvp in 2017 and all of a sudden winning didn’t matter. That really f’d everything up and now only stats matter.
Well, we all know I'm could never claim something like that going the other way. White people are just scared to admit it. Try going to work and blaming a black guy for anything. We all know what would happen.
Nba should really separate stats per game to total stats accrued in a season. More data is good when taken with context. Example: Zion puts up 0/0/0 most nights but averages certainly do not show this. Crazy how he was considered for all star. Another example: last year I remember lebron missed a few games and it actually helped his chance of winning the scoring title. Scoring title should go to who scored the most points. Not averaged.
@@gbmbg114 it would be a way to counter load management and encourage players to miss as few games as possible. Especially if it affects end of year accolades. Also I never said to completely throw out average stats. Just use total stats accrued in a season to illustrate how valuable a player was throughout the season. So if Joel Embiid misses a game due to a tummy ache, there are small repercussions that will add up.

The issue really is that Jokic shouldn’t have won it last year. He’s definitely deserving this year. The MVP has become more about storylines driven by media members that actually vote on the MVP. This dates back to that Westbrook MVP. Instead of giving it to the deserving person, storylines influence too much of these awards. The NBA needs to allow players and coaches to balance out the media vote. These three years of Jokic have shown the inconsistency in voting. And Jokic having one less MVP than Bron to me is wild. And I even no Bron fan like that
He won last year because he put up 27/14/8 while leading the league in nearly all advanced stats and only had a couple less wins than Giannis and Embiid despite having objectively the worst supporting cast out of any other mvp candidate that year. Man was the definition of value, if anything he had a better case last year than this season honestly
It’s sad because Jokic DESERVES the MVP this year! The problem is that the last 2 years he should not have won. If we are looking at a Steve Nash type of MVP, CP3 should have won last year. His team was the only one over 60 wins (nobody else close). If not him, Embiid. Denver was a 6 seed. Yeah they were missing 2 guys, but the Joker’s numbers hardly improved from the previous year (1 point and 3 rebs). Two years ago it was Embiid or Giannis andni say Embiid deserved it. So the last 4 should have been ‘20 Giannis, ‘21 Embiid, ‘22 CP3, and ‘23 Jokic
Nah, Jokic deserved his first MVP. Unfortunately his competition missed games for injuries while he played every game. Second MVP you can make an argument but that's because the Westbrook winning his at the 6th seed and that changed everything
1. How can CP3 be the MVP when he was clearly the second-best player on the team? Both the eye test and the statistics show how Booker was the Suns' clear-cut best player and thus he was All-NBA first team. 2. In 2021, Embiid missed 30% of that shortened season with an injury. 3. In 2022: the Nuggets were 6 seed (48 wins) while the Sixers were 4 seed (51 wins) Jokic played with 0 players averaging 15+ ppg while Embiid had 4 players averaging 15+ ppg (Maxey, Harris, Curry) before Harden joined the team.

Man was the definition of value, if anything he had a better case last year than this season honestly. Don’t see why it’s hard to see
Y’all missing the point. The bar is lower for whites players. That’s what he is saying. White players 25> Black players 30 that’s how it works. Black people have to do more to get the same respect.

@@RealisticWonderKid Nzinn73 I was saying what does LeBron have to do with MJ not winning 3 straight Mvps? MJ is my pick for the best player in the past 40 years, but as I recall, the reason he didn't win three in a row must have been because Charles Barkley won one year. And he did retire for 2 years. I certainly think he was deserving of 3 consecutive Mvps. And you don't know that the voters are all racist, you aren't in their heads. Personally have no problem with Embid getting the award, I think he is deserving, but I also think Luka should get strong consideration. Embed is a superior defensive player which is why I think he is deserving, but averaging a triple double is pretty big, it's not like Jokic is not deserving of some of the attention. Giannis is great too, and I have to admit I haven't been able to keep up with The NBA as much. I don't know everyone who votes, but I'm not buying it's all about racism, sorry. I can't speak for other People, I know I would vote for the person I thought was most deserving. I would have to look at the numbers, but I do think Luka has had a remarkable season, and if Jokic is averaging a triple double that is big. I haven't been able to see much of Embid in ESPN but I've always said he is a elite player and I would have no problem with him getting mvp. And for what it's worth I'm white and think Jordan is the Goat of a the past 40 years. There are others who are worthy of that Title before, Wilt, Kareem. And Jokic needs to do more in the playoffs, which is why I think Luka deserves consideration, he has consistently put his team on his back in playoffs.
@Robert Roberts kobe won 1, huh? Curry has 2. Wtf are you talking about. Which by the way is a travesty on its own. Lebron is on year 20, has been the best player for 15 of those. Kobe had an 7-8 years stretch, As the best. Nash has 2 he has 1 Nash was never the best.

It's not racism that's driving this Jokic MVP case, it's advanced analytics and taking out the eye-test when voting. This MVP award in the NBA has become a joke. How does Jokic win MVP and his team wins only 48 games. MVP should not be only about stats, team wins must play a significant role in determining the winner.

If JJ was being prejudiced he’ll be fired cause surely Perk was.

Nah.. I appreciate the attempt, but no.
@@gbmbg114 it would be a way to counter load management and encourage players to miss as few games as possible. Especially if it affects end of year accolades.
Also I never said to completely throw out average stats. Just use total stats accrued in a season to illustrate how valuable a player was throughout the season.

2. Jokic is a worthy MVP candidate
3. There is white racial bias in mvp voting
4. Whites find it more offensive to be accused of racism than to actually be racist (aka they refuse to examine their biases)

Exactly my thoughts
Nah, Jokic deserved his first MVP. Unfortunately his competition missed games for injuries while he played every game. Second MVP you can make an argument but that's because the Westbrook winning his at the 6th seed and that changed everything
1. How can CP3 be the MVP when he was clearly the second-best player on the team? Both the eye test and the statistics show how Booker was the Suns' clear-cut best player and thus he was All-NBA first team.
2. In 2021, Embiid missed 30% of that shortened season with an injury.
3. In 2022: the Nuggets were 6 seed (48 wins) while the Sixers were 4 seed (51 wins)
Jokic played with 0 players averaging 15+ ppg while Embiid had 4 players averaging 15+ ppg (Maxey, Harris, Curry) before Harden joined the team.
