Bailey played the Warden of San Quentin in the 1958 movie "I Want To Live!" during which he had the grim task to inform condemned murderess Barbara Graham that her last appeal had been turned down and that her execution had to proceed.
I always found he played Mr. Drysdale as an upbeat, enthusiastic, and somewhat materialistic banker, but I always liked him his character! The thing that saddened me😢 was when I heard in real life he didn’t go along with and/or was isolated from the rest of the cast on the Beverly hillbillies.
He was great. Another role was as Elvis' high school principal in King Creole. Too bad his character didn't overrule the teacher and let Danny graduate. His scenes in Vertigo were with Barbara Bel Geddes, the future Miss Ellie. You should do a video on Classic TV about Alfred Hitchcock's TV shows. I remember when a new version was done in the 80s. It included colorized versions of his original intros. Paul Henning chose a wonderful group of people for the series. It's hard to imagine other actors in these roles. Ironically, Dabney Coleman recently passed. He did a reasonable, though more subdued take as Mr. Drysdale in the 90s movie. Another video on Classic TV could be about his TV work.
@@sthompson4049 I believe he was talking about the live TV show that was broadcast in 1954. The movie came out later and I have DVD of it…still funny. Have a great day!
I don't think that they could have ever found anyone that could have done Mr.Drysdale better than Raymond Bailey. He was absolutely brilliant
The more the show lasted, the greedier Mr.Drysdale became.
Did not know about him being in the Merchant Marines. He was the perfect choice for Mr Drysdale.
I enjoyed this video!
The Bible warned of his peril. The love of money is the root of all evil. 🤑😂
🙋♂️🙏
Great video. Raymond was talented. He was a great banker on TBH . Always thank you. Melanie

He and Gale Gordon were great as money hungry bankers.
I couldn't for anything remember who Gale Gordon was LoL I had to look him up. Yes. He was great at that part!
Don't forget, he also killed Susan Hayward in "I Want To Live" ((As the San Quentin Warden, 1958))
He was great on the show, it sounds like it took a while for him to get another job. I am glad he did. Thanks Bob.
In the movie Tarntula !!
Another interesting video! Thank you ❤️🙏
❤❤❤😮😮😮😊😊😊
Gale Gordon if possible some information about his acting career. Thank you. Melanie
🤘
It's a shame such a varied and we'll traveled life ended so heartbreakingly. 🤓😎✌🏼
Never seen without the rug. Mr. Bailey also played a shrink caring for Jimmy Stewart in “Vertigo”.
He was also in a number of Sci-Fi movies in the 1950s, usually as a doctor. Tarantula, Incredible Shrinking Man.
I liked it when the portrait of his "father" would sometimes smile if things went the bank's way!

Thanks 😊 for all the info, Bob. Raymond Bailey looks like he was born to be a banker. 💰
I loved Mr Bailey’s role as Col. receiving a toilet Bowl salute from Andy Griffith’s character during a Barack inspection….😂!
Have a great day!
No time for Sergeants was made in 1957 not 1954
