    It is astounding how much the quality of kid's toys has dropped from when this figure came out up to today.

  • @WesleyO05
    @WesleyO05 2 года назад +12

    Fun fact; the Red Rex’s color is based on Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park book, which describes the T. rex as being red. It was changed to brown in the film.

    I had one as a kid. I was OBSESSED with Jurassic Park, and in fact still am. I had wanted this toy for a long time, and my parents finally bought one for me. I couldn't contain my excitement! However, the next day the little lever inside, the one that causes it to roar, somehow broke (when I saw you squeezing the lever too hard I started to cringe). When we tried to return it, our local Wal Mart (small town) was completely out of these, so I kept it that way, but only the "stomping action" worked. Thanks for posting.

      Was my favourite too. I remember doing an 'unboxing' on Christmas morning 1993. I always remember wanting to slice it open because it felt like it had a kind of skeleton underneath, but I could never bring myself to do it. It ended up in a charity shop.

  • @EdwardiusMcAndriez
    @EdwardiusMcAndriez 10 лет назад +7

    I think this T-Rex matches Michael Crichton's description from the book more than the one from the movie. I got this for Christmas in 1994 and it was the most magnificent toy I ever owned. When I was 14 I gave all my Jurassic Park toys away to a younger kid. My T Rex was getting bent out of shape from being stored in a foot locker. I wanted it to be liberated from the form distorting foot locker and to played with again by a youngster. Nostalgia overtook me recently and I bought this beast myself for $250 on Ebay. The box was beat up, but i didn't care about that. It looks even better than I remember and just like the dinosaurs from the story it makes the past come to life.

    I GOT this toy back in 1993 for my Birthday , it was hugely popular, i was sooo excited for this figure, that my dad let me open it night before my bday. Was my fav toy of all time.
    Then sometime down the line, it broke, i returned it , And the shop lady in woolworths, told me theres none left finished line[no internet back then]. I swapped it for a crappy captain scarlett base.
    Biggest regret EVER! .......And then 17 years later... i found it on ebay. purchased two unboxed....

    If you read the the original novel, the color scheme is quite accurate - a mottled reddish brown color.
    I had one long ago. I managed to straighten out the tail by suspending it on a rope head-down for 2 weeks. I only learned about the warm water technique as an adult. I never got this thing to stand properly with the tail in the air due to poor balance until I put a lot of reddish brown clay in the mouth, behind the rearmost teeth as ballast.

      My mum is a teacher and all my JP toys ended up at one of her schools in the late 90s. She moved schools several times, but sadly all the dinosaurs stayed behind. They're probably still there, stashed away in a cupboard with all their arms and legs broken.

    One of my favorite toys as a kid. I had a lego town built in my basement on top of a ping pong table. This guy was the terror of the lego town for many years! The other half of the table had my castle legos, where he also fit in pretty well as a dragon. I can't believe the crappy Jurassic World toys that are out right now I feel sorry for kids these days. It's no wonder they're more into video games because most of the toys in the toy aisles are total crap.

    I like this T rex and it’s my favourite dinosaur.
    The bend tail is understandable and I guess it should be like that when it is in the package. But just like you said you can like fix it trying to make it straight.
    Thankfully when Mattel released another red
    T rex, it isn’t bent.

      @@darkseid1341 Thanks for tuning in and your comment! It's my favourite too. I can remember the buzz around this particular toy, it towered above other Dinosaur toys at the time in both size and play features. The Mattel Rex is great, they did a fantastic job with it

    Great, nostalgic review... I never got this guy as a kid, which I kicked myself over as I got older, but in my teens I got one off eBay. Fun Fact: My mom was seriously going to get me this toy, but apparently I burst out crying in the store because I was afraid of it :D Weird, since T.rex was my favorite dinosaur... I would get a Young T.rex though.
    Regarding the inaccuracies from the film, one thing I find really interesting about the first film's T.rex toys is that while the T.rex in the film wasn't red, the T.rex in the novel was. So as a representation of the novel rex, this toy is pretty much right on the money. There was even a juvenile rex in the novel, which I'm preeeetty sure is where they got the Young T.rex from. Like you mentioned, the designers probably hadn't seen much material from the upcoming film, so they probably turned to the novel for inspiration. Though it is kind of strange that the rex toys are rather inaccurate to the film, while the Triceratops and Dilophosaurus in particular are very authentic. It wouldn't surprise me if they'd kept the T.rex behind lock and key during the making of the film, it WAS their big hero after all :P

      @diypropsmodels7064 2 года назад

      Or perhaps the Dilophosaurus, Velociraptor and some other Dino toys look similar to the movie is because maybe the novel the dinosaur doesn’t look completely different compare to the film except Rexy, juvenile T. Rex….

    I have (or had lol) a JP3 T-Rex that does the exact same thing with the stomping. The only difference is that its made of a harder plastic and the roaring is activated via his arm.

    There are a few differences between the Stan Winston model and the toy. The toy's feet have protrusions behind the toes that the studio model does not have. The toy also has a more pronounced spine than the studio model.
