Hi Karen. I moved to Nice last December. Funny, the other day I asked for a pain de “wheat”. Forgetting huit is the #8. 😂 luckily they know me, so we all laughed.

Hi! I love Nice. This is so cute and honestly I do that kind of thing all the time. Today I told my kiné, "thank you!" and then I was like, wait, I'm in France :-)

I will be traveling to France in a few months. I am lactose intolerant. I am guessing but want to confirm, if they have almond or soy milk? I will be in the south of France . I enjoy sitting and drinking my coffee and I am hoping I can enjoy it with my favorite dessert..which is anything with either apple or almonds in it. Great channel content

Bonjour ! Thanks for this great comment. OK, first off to answer your question about alternative milks. If you're in Paris or any other big city, you will find it in a lot of cool coffee bars, and definitely for example in a Starbucks. But in more traditional cafés and/or in smaller towns and villages, it still might be hit or miss (although much better than a few years ago). I'd suggest first looking up the towns you'll be visiting and trying to get a list going of some sweet spots where they cater to lactose-free (sans lactose) needs. Then you might consider, once you're in France, finding a natural foods store (Naturalia in Paris for example has a number of shops) and getting a little Tetrapak of your preferred milk. You could put it in a little cool thermos if you had to, and bring it with you. I realize that's not ideal, just if you'll be somewhere less big-city.
Then some tips for how to ask for what you want. "Avez-vous" is a great expression because it's a polite way of asking "do you have" and then you add whatever you need..."Avez-vous du lait de soja ?" (Do you have soy milk?) or "Avez-vous du lait d'amande ?" (Do you have almond milk?)
Since you love apples (des pommes) you can ask for "une tarte aux pommes s'il vous plaît" (an apple tart, please) or in a bakery or patisserie you could try "un chausson aux pommes, s'il vous plaît." A chausson is like a little pocket, and the apple chausson is a classic--so good!
Bon voyage et bienvenue en France !!

When I went to Paris, I had trouble ordering a regular old cup of decaf coffee. I kept getting espressos. :-)

Salut ! OK this is classic. That's because when you say "coffee" or even "café," that to a French person means espresso.
Also, while most hotels will offer a filtered/brewed coffee option, that's not always the case in a bakery or café, for example.
What a lot of folks do is order "un café allongé décaféiné," but what that will get you is a decaf espresso with extra hot water in it to make it slightly bigger and less strong. That is sometimes also called "un café américano." I know that's not what you meant, so below is another option if you'd like to ask for exactly what you want.
If you'd like an American-style cup of brewed coffee (decaf), you can try, "Un café filtré, décaféiné, s'il vous plaît" (a decaf filter coffee, please) or you could say, "Un déca, mais filtré, s'il vous plaît," (a decaf, but filtered, please).
I hope this is helpful next time you visit!
