The Sykes plant in my home garden was planted 13 years ago. It used to send leaves twice in the same year. It sent leaves twice, but the leaves did not complete growth, knowing that I fertilize it with organic fertilizer in the fall season.❤

Twisting the cone off in the direction of the swirls is a good option .

So for all encephalartos is it acceptable to start seed harvest before the cone breaks open? I didn’t know if the seeds had to soften first, or not as it seems to be in this case?

Good question. You need to make sure the seeds are ripe, but we harvest most of our cones before they dehisce.
