This has to be one of the most gorgeous covers of a pop song that I have ever heard. The pure, smooth and perfectly-on-pitch tone of Blake the soloist is stunning. And every time I hear the climax, I cry. Every time. Not very many pieces of music continue to affect me in this way after several listenings! Brilliant.
Me, too. Every time. This got me through the pandemic, along with their renditions of "Caledonia", "Finlandia", "the Luckiest" and so many others. It's such a gift!
Oh yes, I repeat listening this song and many others done by VOICES8 from time to time again and again 💙. These young people really know how to touch our souls 💙. All the best from the Czech Republic Betty H.
What a stunning rendition.... one of my favourite songs from the 1970s when I was a student.... Blake's singing here is liquid crystal.... and infinitely luscious backing by the rest of you.... Thanks for brightening my Sunday morning.... this is 'Church' for me!
My soul must now take time to regroup and slowly come back to the mundane nitty-gritty of the real world. Thank you for that brief, but beautiful trip to the sublime!
Historically, Jesus would not have looked anything like that........At the time that Jesus supposedly lived men wore their hair short, not long ( that is a movie construct!!). They also were clean shaven, did NOT wear beards. Also, Jesus being middle eastern would have had dark curly hair and dark brown eyes and dark brown skin!!!. Stop buying into the white european Jesus that has been depicted in paintings and movies!!!
@@LostintheTwilightZone Ellen, I agree that the historical Jesus would have looked quite different from the white images of European art and Western cinema. Whether Jesus wore a beard or had long hair makes no difference to me. In fact, I was simultaneously offering Blake sincere praise and gentle criticism. Personally, I think Blake looks better with shorter hair and shorter beard, but his voice is all that really matters. He and all the other singers in Voces8 have a marvelous sound. In fact, I listened to their "Lux" album while in the dentist's chair yesterday, and I can personally attest to its pain-killing effects!
There’s a 3:30 minute scene from Doctor Who, easily found on RUclips, that portrays the Doctor transporting Vincent Van Gogh to the Musée d'Orsay in 2010. This gesture allows him to understand how his art - ignored in his own lifetime - would be appreciated in the future. It is one of the most emotionally profound scenes in the series, and a worthy companion piece to this wonderful song and arrangement.
this is absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for this magical moment at the end of a rainy day - this is one of my all-time favourite songs - I arranged it for piano left hand alone - Jim Clements has created a beautiful arrangement and you perform it so delicately. Soul food. Thank you. Bliss.
Stiil so moving, this version of the Vincent song. Blake does such a good job of calling up the truth and beauty of both the song and the life and work of an artist whose life was certainly a great struggle. But he kept to the truth of his vision and the world has been enriched with it. Thank you for your life of painting, Vincent. Thank you Voces 8 for a sensitive and caring tribute to the same. Thank you Blake.
Thank you for sharing the beauty of Vincent, through the beauty of the colours of your musical interpretation. Thank you, Voces8, for bring us all, a little bit of heaven through your dedication and commitment to excellence.
Without a doubt, your whole group has extraordinary voices. You don't just amaze our ears with your music, you get to reach our souls. Daniel Olivier, Trois-Rivières, Québec, Canada.
This piece is as often is the case with you lot again magnificent. Sung with such ease and palpable emotion, and in such a uniquely intimate setting for you. It is an exciting changeup to the 8 voice settings.
My father was a beautiful yet troubled man in life. In my earliest years I was a Daddy's girl but as time passed I became his greatest opponent in defense of the rest of my family. He passed away over 6 years ago but last October my husband and I brought him to the ocean where he longed to be. My mother had promised him and now being very ill herself found the strength to let him go. Everything happened in a matter of days so I wasn't able to plan much but music ( he was a man of music) and readings were chosen by my mother and siblings and his grandchildren. At dawn on a perfect day, a glorious day and still not knowing what I was going to do it came naturally and as I watched the water and wind carry him finally I could unlock the cage where I kept my great love for him. This was the song I chose and played that day and it is scared to me because in many ways he was Vincent and I know he knows I'm listening now and your moving version touches my soul .
This take is like a hot knife gliding through butter. Have listened at least 20 times over the past week and sending link to all my loved ones. It’s haunting, mesmerizing, glorious. It makes me feel like I’m floating on air, totally transfixed. I wish I could have been there to hear it live.
Incredibly beautiful , the poetry, the music and the love with which you beautiful singers express this homage to a genius artist! Thank you so much, you touched my heart to tears ...
A beautiful song, so well done with this smaller group of singers, and the soloist so perfectly suited to the sentiments expressed here. Thank you, thank you, thank you! It's never too late to appreciate the truth and beauty of Vincent Van Gogh, and the beautiful tribute paid to him by this talented and sensitive group.
The beauty of the music, the beauty of the voice, makes you fall in love a little bit every time you listen to it, and you feel a bit lost every time the song finishes… The reality is always there, but thank you for taking me somewhere else when you sing.
Oh my, Blake’s voice is liquid velvet. Just stunning!
STUNNED! My whole being was totally absorbed ....Swept Away........ ABSOLUTE PERFECTION 💞❤️♥️💞❤️♥️💞❤️💞♥️ Breathtaking......
I just realised that I held breath for over 4 minutes listening to this...

You should check out The King's Singer's arrangesments as well. I really like that of "Some folks' lives" which was orignally written by Paul Simon.
Me, too. Every time. This got me through the pandemic, along with their renditions of "Caledonia", "Finlandia", "the Luckiest" and so many others. It's such a gift!
Yes, yes...
Bell-like tuning. Gorgeous❤.
Goose bumps and tears. What a phenomenal performance of a beautiful song.
this has to be one of the best "pop" songs ever when one looks at it as whole story/biography. Don McLean's masterpiece--so emotional listening to it.
Best version of this song EVER. Every word caressed for perfect meaning.
Sacrilege. Don MacLean's version was perfection. This is VERY close second. 😊
This is painful listening. Don mcclean's version was beautifully poetic
Playing on repeat. Blake.. how amazing your voice is. You inhabit this song... and the rest of the chorus is just heavenly. Bravo!
Stunning. Blake, you were sublime in this.
Blake is channeling the soul of Vincent and the homage of the composer.
So crisp. It’s perfect.
Hard to imagine anything more beautiful than this song sung by this group - I could listen to it again, and again, and again...

Whatever you touch... It becomes GOLD....
More than one person has kidded Blake about his looking like Jesus, but the truth is that his performance here is truly divine.

I be just been to see the clip. Quite moving. Thanks.
Totally agree. Best 3 minutes of Doctor Who, ever.

I personally think the most moving Dr Who episode ever I cry every time and this version matches it so well
@@kevatasu Thank you very much. That was very special after listening to this song.
Always nice to see Bill Nighy.
If I could slip from this world with Blake's voice playing in my ears I would die a very happy man.
Elevated this classic to a hymn. Superb arrangement and flawless execution.
Gorgeous! Beautifully sung by all. I loved the simplicity of Blake's interpretation - so moving.
More beautiful than the original recording! Thank you.
I was in Pavia at Borromeo College. It was a wonderful experience hearing your team. Bravi, Bravi, Bravi!!!
Letting a much needed cry out
The most beautiful rendition of this song I've ever heard. You folks are fabulous. Truly.

You've broken my heart.
Blake sang that simply with lots of feeling. Superb
Staggeringly beautiful. Best version by a mile.
Have you heard Josh Groban's?
@@scathekh I have now. Very good, but a different genre. As a first tenor I prefer the higher pitch, and the a capella arrangement.
This may be my most beloved non-classical song of all time. And this version is gorgeous.
Oh my! Words fail me. Just perfection.
as beautiful as ... all of you ... every time I listen to this (often!) more and more unveils .. 💞🕊💞
Blake has such beautiful artistry and interpretation! Lovely arrangement!
Was für eine wunderbare Aussprache! So kann man Englisch lernen! Großartiger Vortrag. Vielen Dank an alle V8.

Waterfall on my face at that climax in the song.
Es ist zum Niederknien schön.
