نظم کا مکمل اردو متن:
دیکھوں جو آسماں سے تو اتنی بڑی زمیں
اتنی بڑی زمین پہ چھوٹا سا ایک شہر
چھوٹے سے ایک شہر میں سڑکوں کا ایک جال
سڑکوں کے جال میں چھپی ویران سی گلی
ویراں گلی کے موڑ پہ تنہا سا اک شجر
تنہا شجر کے سائے میں چھوٹا سا اک مکان
چھوٹے سے اک مکان میں کچی زمیں کا صحن
کچی زمیں کے صحن میں کھلتا ہوا گلاب
کھلتے ہوئے گلاب میں مہکا ہوا بدن
مہکے ہوئے بدن میں سمندر سا ایک دل
اس دل کی وسعتوں میں کہیں کھو گیا ہوں میں
یوں ہے کہ اس زمیں سے بڑا ہو گیا ہوں میں

dekhūñ jo āsmāñ se to itnī baḌī zamīñ
itnī baḌī zamīn pe chhoTā sā ek shahr
chhoTe se ek shahr meñ saḌkoñ kā ek jaal
saḌkoñ ke jaal meñ chhupī vīrān sī galī
vīrāñ galī ke moḌ pe tanhā sā ik shajar
tanhā shajar ke saa.e meñ chhoTā sā ik makān
chhoTe se ik makān meñ kachchī zamīñ kā sahn
kachchī zamīñ ke sahn meñ khiltā huā gulāb
khilte hue gulāb meñ mahkā huā badan
mahke hue badan meñ samundar sā ek dil
us dil kī vus.atoñ meñ kahīñ kho gayā huuñ maiñ
yuuñ hai ki is zamīñ se baḌā ho gayā huuñ maiñ

अशफ़ाक़ हुसैन
देखूँ जो आसमाँ से तो इतनी बड़ी ज़मीं
इतनी बड़ी ज़मीन पे छोटा सा एक शहर
छोटे से एक शहर में सड़कों का एक जाल
सड़कों के जाल में छुपी वीरान सी गली
वीराँ गली के मोड़ पे तन्हा सा इक शजर
तन्हा शजर के साए में छोटा सा इक मकान
छोटे से इक मकान में कच्ची ज़मीं का सहन
कच्ची ज़मीं के सहन में खिलता हुआ गुलाब
खिलते हुए गुलाब में महका हुआ बदन
महके हुए बदन में समुंदर सा एक दिल
उस दिल की वुसअ'तों में कहीं खो गया हूँ मैं
यूँ है कि इस ज़मीं से बड़ा हो गया हूँ मैं
