Star Ocean 2 has been remade twice now and even had a (albeit poorly funded) anime adaptation. If only they gave the same love to Till the End of Time… Both 2 and 3 are the best of the series
Some people can't get over, or wrap their heads around, the plot twist in the game. And the attitude towards it, from what I've seen, has made Tri-Ace not very confident in writing past that point. My only problem was the lack of screen time that Luther had. I feel that it should be remade and have the story expanded so that the twist is at least easier to swallow, but preferably easier to understand. Personally, I feel that regardless of how the universe was created as the Eternal Sphere, it has existed for so long and developed as its own reality that it cannot be constrained to just data like Luther thinks it can. It may seem like just a simple simulation to him and everyone else in 4D space, but as it has been stated by Blair, it has evolved into its own reality. That's why Luther is losing control over it and why everyone is still alive at the end after he tries to delete it. All that did was shut off the connection between their realities. The Eternal Sphere no longer exists in 4D space, but it still exists as its own reality. The moment Fayt realizes that he's still alive reminds me of the quote, "I think, therfore I am." TL;DR it had a great plot twist that wasn't explained well enough, and players misunderstood it and got pissed off. But I hope Tri-Ace will try again.
@@TheCrimsonKodiak I thought people were positive with that plot twist? the main issues is its so massive in scale that it made the later 3 games pale in seriousness, they kinda had to refer to the 4D beings a bit more instead of pretending we didn't uncover this plot twist 🤣
@lowhp_comic oh, I've seen so much hate over the years since I first played it in 2009. A lot of players claim that the universe being a simulation rendered any of the fighting and struggling everyone did in the previous games meaningless and was basically a cop out in the same way as saying "but it was all a dream!"
Yeah, at this point, give how tri-Ace is towards that game and its twist (to the point where in some entries in Anamesis, they were being very self depreciative about the 3 characters specifically), its chances of ever getting a remake treatment are about the same as how ATLUS feels about Persona 1 and 2 (which for context because of PS1 Persona 1, very, VERY unlikely). And another thing to point out, for that twist to happen at the time, Star Ocean 2 was the entry that preceded it and it is a very popular entry, likely a similar issue with Star Ocean 1 as well, despite it taking until a bit after 3's release in the West. There wasn't an official port of Star Ocean 1 that was in other languages until the PSP port. That twist completely made everything that players at the time did for Star Ocean 1 and 2 at the time pointless (and caused quite some anger in the fandom. I have heard it get called some colorful names, none of which are good), and as a result, made the rest of the series have to semi retcon this (the fact that not a single Star Ocean game past 3 tries to write past this does not help). Honestly (and this will be unfortunate, but I wouldn't put it past them to do this), if this game gets remade, it will likely be a reimagining just to oust the twist outright, which I know will likely cause quite a stir again in the fandom, but whether or not it will be to its detriment, I am not sure. Personally, I don't care for 3 that much as I have not played it, but I do keep up with the series as best as I can.
I have a feeling Sakuraba just phones in anything Tales asks him to make cause of how many games they asked him to do already. But any other company or series, the man can still cook.
For me, I can tell that his creativity shines when he did music on original stuff (Baten Kaitos and Golden Sun definitely come to mind) and the Star Ocean series.

This version absolutely fits with the presentation of the remake, and honestly, I could not be happier that it exists. Sakuraba proving once again that he's still got it.
Had some weirdo saying "Just play multiple files." All I could think about was the time because you can pick and choose and it's like arbitrarily having a worse experience. STILL EXCITED FOR THE GAME, but it's such a weird thing to be a contrarian about when the 3 hour time limit absolutely is unnecessary.
Wow this is excellent!! Can't wait to listen to the full soundtrack! I have also made an arrangement of KA MI KA ZE that I believe could probably be close to what we could hear in the remake
Call it a gut feeling, but I think Star Ocean games going forward will drift away from AAA looking games to What we see in this game, and I'm all for it if my gut is true.
