@@GreyWolfLeaderTW Wouldn't it be good and dandy if Puritanism only drew the line at _literal criminals?_ Yet many of them go past that, and want to force people to dress and act exactly the same way as they do, or else they're doomed to go to Hell or whatever.
In that regard, OP's quote is very much true. I don't think "not wanting rapists and murderers to do their thing" is exactly unique to Puritans. But I could be wrong.

*This 100%*, for a parent to be so irresponsible to buy a game not intended for the age of their offsprings isn't the fault of the store, or the game's developer, it is the PARENT'S fault.
My parents, when I was a child, only bought games for my age, they even sat down to play the games with my brother to know what was up and to do what a parent must do: educate and be with and for us.
It is easy to blame developers, tv programs, etc. for the misconduct of a child when they don't want the responsibility of educating their own children.

    • @brendonjohnson676
      @brendonjohnson676 6 лет назад +48

Cody S Well it's about the nature of the game. It's understandable that you're busy like my mother was. That's why I got into video games, but alas I was more entertained by Mario 64, Crash Bandicoot, and Kingdom Hearts. Violent games wasn't my taste until middle school. So really parenting isn't the problem of video games, it's the ignorance of the complaining parents that buys it for their kids then complain it's too violent for them afterwards. Knowing it has a M for Mature label on it.

A lot of the problem with this debacle, and what led to Rockstar's original claims, is that the Hot Coffee mod, was actually *two* mods in one. See, the actual mini-game that Rockstar basically disabled, consisted of two fully clothed characters involved in a rhythm game. Shortly after this mini-game was unlocked (mod #1), someone else made a nude skin for the female characters, that would only appear during the mini-game (mod #2). So when Rockstar claimed that it was a mod - they weren't wrong, It's just that the moral guardians assumed that the nudity was part of the mini-game, because that would make *sense*.
Of course, we'll ignore the whole concept of parents getting angry at Rockstar for putting such content into a game , that should only be played by people 17 or older, in the first place.
But let's talk about how Rockstar had zero fucks to give with the next GTA game (GTA IV).
    1. Just like in the previous 3D games, you can still pick up prostitutes - but this time around, you get the choice of what kind of service you want, and if you rotate the camera around, you'll see said "services" fully depicted on your character - albeit, both characters are fully clothed. So basically - the part Rockstar contributed to the Hot Coffee mod - with just less interactivity.
    2. One of the DLCs for that game, shows full frontal *male* nudity during a cutscene.
    3. The game's Statue of Liberty expy, bears a striking resemblance to a particular former Senator and Secretary of State.

The two things we have hardwired to our instincts, but we are more worried about little Billy learning about the birds & the bees then how to kill a man five ways with a spoon. That's how a lotta kids get molested, by placing their faith in other adults. If you're not all up in your kids' business you're parenting wrong. @@FerociousPaul Ooooooooh boy, you have no idea how wrong and naive you are. You can't forbid stuff to kids! The more stuff you try to forbid, the more they are going to want it, and they will get it one way or the other. And the older they get, they will evolve to adapt to your style of rule enforcing and start working together with other kids. They are like a mafia. I remember all the scheming, lying, smuggling, illicit key copying... Aah, good times. And I was a calm one, didn't do too much. The only kids I knew that didn't engage in breaking the rules on a regular basis had some slight mental illness and weren't interested in those things.
Kids aren't stupid, they can tell apart obvious danger, reasonable warning and baseless fear-mongering.
Okay, they are stupid and you must never even imply that "You are not old enough yet", because they will take this as a personal challenge, but still. Unless you plan on a 1984-style constant surveillance system complete with planned rebellions and their subsequent crushing, you aren't going to prevent your kids from doing anything just by force. Talk to them, they are humans with no experience wanting to acquire said experience.

Anyway, sure, you can't just leave the kids alone and not teach them anything. That will end up badly. It's just that nobody will learn anything from a teacher they don't like or trust. Bad teaching is worse than no teaching.

People that complain about the content on a game being too much for young kids should automatically have their opinions be disregarded, why you may ask? its simple. Every game comes with an age rating that states who and who shouldn't be playing the game. San Andreas was created for the Mature gamer, 18 and above, if a child is found playing these types of games then its the parents fault for not paying attention and assume that all video games are for kids. These people need to take responsibility for their own kids.

Not to release Bully under any circumstances
In other words it doesn’t matter what the game is or what its about the parents will crucify it without so much as a trial.
-Volunteer to sell its violent and sexually explicit games in adult video stores only.
Yes “volunteer” because they had no legal leg to stand on. Also last i checked it was rockstar and the stores legal rights to discuss who would carry it.
-Let parents return Grand Theft Auto for a full refund until they do a national awareness campaign to educate parents of content and possible effects.
These morons demanded the creation of the ESRB and they still refuse to listen to them. What do they think the letters on it are like episodes of sesame street? “This brought to you by the letter T”
-Create a fund for victims of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and car-jackings, etc.
Ah yes because as everyone knows those problems never existed until GTA came into existence. Also if these people wanted it so badly they could start one.
-Make a national apology for misleading and lying to children, parents, and legislators about their intentions and causing insurance premiums to sky rocket.
What lies? Again why did we make the ESRB if people just ignore it and act shocked when what was warned about happens?
-Give a written response within five business days of receipt of these demands.
Yah that wasnt going to happen.

But it is a global problem - one that other countries have dealt with more successfully! I actually read an analysis of this, describing the German school shootings and how their response of restricting gun ownership and getting a psychological profile of everyone who'd ever been in contact with a gun actually made a significant difference.
The other comparison was with Switzerland - which totally breaks the trend for gun density vs shootings i.e it almost has as many guns as the US. And yet it has very little gun violence in comparison to almost everywhere else in the world. Why? Because mandatory military service. I'm really not saying that's a solution, but it makes it very clear what the solutions are:
      1) Anyone who owns a gun is trained how to properly use one
      2) There is a public record of everyone who owns a gun, their history and their psych profile
      3) There is a watchlist of anyone (who owns a gun) who shows signs of instability (based, in the Swiss case, on their service record).
      4) Licence must be held
      5) Licence and gun can be confiscated if the person poses an unreasonable threat
Doesn't solve the problem of illegal gun imports, but that's demonstrably less important than lax legal regulations.

Rockstar being the cheeky devils they are, got back at Hilary and paid homage to the mod in their next game.
If you look at the "statue of happiness", the GTA version of "the statue of liberty" the face resembles that of a certain Hilary Clinton, holding a steaming hot coffee

Thanks for bringing up the problems with moral outrage on things like this.
However, I would like to point out that Australia now DOES have an R18+ rating for video games and Grand Theft Auto V was one of the first games to receive it.
