      Dogumentary TV is there a such thing as over socializing a Presa Canario puppy?

    • @DutchBane

      Dogumentary TV i feel that since the nineties the presa has been crossed with the burdeax dogo, great dane and others. It changed into the the dogo canario. Aboslutely less healthy and less stamina. I found a breeder here in spain who has been breeding since the eighties the original presa canario and not mixed with other breeds. Extremely balanced dogs and very athletic. Free of h.d. and stomach problems. Quiet frankly very impressive and long lived dogs he breeds. I do think you are very knowledgable and a responsable breeder. If i was living in the united states you would be my breeder of choice. I hope you have a great day sir

      We all know the Presa is powerful. So is that clumsy looking type of walk a well known trait or is that through breeding with the dogs you've mentioned? I've seen some that are very mobile but yet others have that strange clunky walk. It's weird & it sort of puts me off them.

      They probably walk that way because of all the muscle. Maybe you want a lean dog. Get a Belgian Malenoi...

      GOOD LIVING, ''They probably walk that way because of all the muscle''.
      Really? Some don't & have muscle.
      GOOD LIVING, ''Maybe you want a lean dog. Get a Belgian Malenoi''.
      Thanks for your pointless advice but I have a lean German Shepherd thanks. If you feel a little......slighted by what I've mentioned, tough!!
      Deal with it.
      Other dogs are muscular & don't have that weird walk.

      Bulletproof Pitbulls the presa puppies shown dont have proper presa markings. i see two or more with no white on their chest. Hes breeding for looks would be my assumption. OF COURSE JUST AN ASSUMPTION. I wouldn't purchase his dogs because of that tho.

    • @carlobrigante881
      @carlobrigante881 7 лет назад +6

      Bulletproof Pitbulls ur right about looks coming after character. It's just too bad that for the presa canario that rule went out the window after it almost became extinct in the 1970's but since it was nominated to be indigenous heritage and sort of like the Canary Islands mascot they started mixing in breeds that had nothing to do with the original presa in order to bring it back and therefore creating a dog with the only purpose of looks and conformation which led too all the health issues u see now days with presas, they are nothing like how they were meant to b from the beginning. sort of like how it's been happening to dozens of different breeds in the last century

    My "Soza" is 10 months and he is my first Presa Canario. I fell in love with this breed and wanted to experience living with this large breed of dog. I must say that with my experience so far, I have fallen in love. Honestly, there is no other breed of dog I choose to have in my life from this point on. He is very protective of his family and then on the other hand, he knows who our friends are. He is loving and very active. I love the way he protects our yard when he is out there and lets everyone know that he is here. Then, when he is inside around the family, he knows how to show his loving side. He is my heart and I love him dearly.

    From my personal experience: a Presa is basically a multi-purpose dog: Guard-dog, Hunting-dog, Shepherd, even a fighting dog. From my personal experience with the Presa (I used to own one before it died of old age) I can tell you it was extremely loyal and noble, hell I could even sleep for hours using the dog as a pillow lol and he'd just sleep as well. They have an impressive stamina for their size, impressive strength; this breed could take down a full ass grown sized man like he is nothing. Their pain tolerance is insane which is good in case you hit your dog with something by accident since they are unfazed by it then there is no risk of being bitten as a natural response from the dog (can't tell you how many times people get bitten by their dogs because they hit them with something by accident).
    Word of advice though: Be sure that at least one of the owners is around when other people are near the dog, mine was fine as long as one of us was around and if other people came around he even would let them touch him and pat him, BUT the motherfucker would get ready for business if an owner was not near enough which is fine since you don't want to own this breed so it can become fast friends with the first stranger that comes across. Also if you are with friends make sure to remind them not to make gestures which may incite the dog to attack them, so any sort of playfulness which can give the dog the impression your friend is out to get you may end very badly.
    Also, regardless of what idealistic people say about dogs, this particular breed has a natural tendency to be aggressive toward other dogs, even the same breed, so if you are gonna take a Presa out for a walk make sure you are able to control it, you also need to be very aware of your surroundings to minimise the risk of unwanted outcomes, remember this dog wasn't bred to become fast friends with everybody.
    There is one thing which I noticed in my particular case and I hope is a rare occurrence with the breed, but it should be said: I did state that as long as an owner was around, they pretty much love to be approached by other people, BUT my dog had this weird tendency to change his body language to "attack-ready"whenever he saw little kids crawling, I never understood why he did this and even a few veterinarians were baffled by this, so this is why I always tried to keep him away from little kids, not because he didn't like little kids, but because for some bizarre reason he would get jumpy is he saw them crawling.
    So you also have to be able to read this breed very well to minimise the risk of accidents for yourself, your dog, other dogs and other people. You don't have to be a macho to own one, but you do have to be very aware of your environment, very aware of your dog's body language and have confidence in yourself... again, this dog was not bred to make fast friends.
    As for his ability to protect you and your loved ones from attacks, rest assured this dog is one tough and scary motherfucker. There aren't many breeds which can stand a chance at actually beating a Presa one on one, most dogs (even if they are the ones who start to get aggressive) will cower in fear before it even gets physical. As for an actual fight (let's hope it never comes to it) and I can tell you from experience that Presas could even take on two Rottweilers at the same time and come up on top with minimal to no damage... and no I didn't pit my Presa in fights, I actually had assholes who thought it very clever to release their dogs on my dog and I wasn't putting up with that kind of shit... thankfully there weren't many of those assholes, but it can happen, hell once an asshole who owned a Pitbull saw my dog from a distance (only his back legs from asshole was standing were visible) and thought it clever to approach to encourage his dog to attack mine, thankfully as soon as he saw my Presa he shitted his pants and turned tail, which prevented both dogs from being hurt unnecessarily.
    When it comes to humans, mine never had to actually take someone down (thank fuck), but whenever a stranger came into the house, he would STALK them, didn't make a sound, not even a bark, not even a whimper, not a single growl... my guess is that if it ever came down to it, he would never have alerted an intruder to his presence, they would only notice him once he had his jaw on their necks. In the streets I came across assholes without dogs, but who thought themselves either too clever or felt like super man and would taunt my dog by making moves which gave my Presa the impression that they would attack me, my Presa DID NOT like that kind of shit one bit, he would just get between me and the assholes, assume an attack-ready position and thankfully these assholes would shit their pants and cease their foolery.
    All in all is a lovely breed suited pretty much for every purpose, just remember that this breed can be a pet, but it NOT a toy, always give it its due respect and keep your distance when you see signs that your dog needs it. Also this breed needs large spaces to stretch its legs, so if your home does not have this space, then make sure to take them for a walk often and even if you have a big space for them at home, make sure to take them for a walk from time to time, they quite enjoy it.
    Then again that was just my personal experience with a particular bloodline, this gentleman knows way more that I do.
    Edit: My dog looked very similar to Mike Tyson, although the colour was different, but even the temperament sounds very similar to the one my Presa had.

    Thank you for this video I learned so much. I was torn between the Presa and the Cane Corso.
    The most impressive thing besides these amazing dogs is you as a breeder. You make sure the puppies are placed where they are safe and handled correctly. A dog to me is family.
    I filled out a application and made it to the phone interview. After photos sent of my ranch plus my fenced yard and my experience with large potentially aggressive breeds I was approved. My dog will live with me in my home but has so much room for us to play in the yard and walk to the creek etc. I own a ranch in The Idaho Rocky Mountains. This will be my only dog and my best friend. Thank you soooooo much..

      There is no such thing as a "good breeder." Millions of animals being killed in shelters and dumped in the trash means that anyone breeding is contributing to this problem. He will probably delete my comment as he does with anyone calling out his nonsense.

    • @stevenporter9114
      @stevenporter9114 6 лет назад +8

      So you feel that it is okay for purebred dogs to just become extinct?

    • @danj1762
      @danj1762 6 лет назад +7

      steven porter There is no such thing as a "pure breed dog." All dogs came from wolves and are a mixture. Every so called "pure breed" is a mix. The dogs already here should be cared for but no more should be bred. For every person who takes good care of their pets, there are many who do not. Millions of dogs of all breeds are abused, abandoned, and killed every year. It is time we need to ask ourselves if we should continue breeding any domestic animals considering that no one NEEDS a pet. Domestic animals no longer serve the eco system and are a product of humans selectively breeding them. They only serve selfish human wants. Domestication is inherently cruel just as any form of captivity is. Is your selfish desire to possess a pet worth the continued system of abuse so many animals endure? I worked in a state run shelter for years. Before that these things never crossed my mind. But after watching so many perfectly healthy, sweet animals killed and thrown in the trash daily it changed my mind about the entire pet industry. Animals should be wild, free from humans having power over them. They deserve autonomy. The ones who cannot be released into the wild should certainly go extinct so that the cycle of suffering and killing can end.

      Freeda Birda sure do. I said he was a responsible breeder, and the breed isnt for everyone. Obviously. it takes a responsible owner and proper knowdledge. Bane was a poor example of a presa, and was in the hands of ignorent owners who knew nothing about the breed!! He wasnt neutered, had no mental stimulation, and had a unspayed female in the same vacinity. And as far as the ugly comment, that is your opinion. I think all little dogs are ugly and vicious, but that's my opinion.

I have a female and male presa, we got the female as a baby and we got the male at six years!! I trust them wholeheartedly because I saw how the people raised my male, and I trust my female with my whole heart! JUST like children, if you raise them correctly then they will turn it alright and this guy^ understands its to the full, no doubt!!

      I am an old big dog breeder and trainer. I have even wrote the histories of several ancient and rare breeds you find on the internet today. Saying that as a qualifier I must disagree with your dog owner statement. When you breed pit together with English Mastiffs which is the way many Presa's are made, then you can have an unpredictable dog that can attack no matter how it's raised. In fact this was the cocktail used in the San Francisco killing of the woman by two Presa's. ''No bad dogs only bad owners'' is the last words of many owners carted off to jail after their dog hurt or killed someone, it's simply not true in 75% of cases. I have never heard anyone with that bad owner view explain to me why some pups in the pitbull and Cane Corso breeds kill their siblings at 3 weeks of age. This behavior is not taught, it is inbred into the breed, and the owners should be aware of that and take precautions. When I purchased my first male Cane Corso in 1990, I was told, ''great dogs around other breeds, not likely to fight, and will work well with my other mastiffs just to get me to buy one. That dog killed my big 240 pound English Mastiff. That Mastiff had lived with Rotts for years with only a fight here or their, nothing of major problems. But that Cane Corso killed him in a savage bloody way. This is instinct, and nature, and can't be trained in, or abused in. I learned fast what could happen with that breed, and changed things up some so my other dogs would not die, and have loved and enjoyed the breed ever since. But people need to know the real truth without the propaganda.

    Man, with all my respects, you made the best description I have ever hear a foreigner makes about the Presa. I grown with this dogs, and I only have to say that the breed have change a lot. I really prefer the ancient classical Presa Canario. The one with massive necks and head and body , very big and strong. Loyalty till to death and kindly with family. Actually almost in Canary islands many of them are so similar to the bull mastiff that seems they are losing the roots. To me, and it's only my opinion the nicest Presa it is the ancient ones with a colour that here we Call "berdino" and usually makes confuse with another breed that we have here, the Bardino. My first Presa was huge, her name was "Sombra" with greens dark colours, a weight of 60 kg and very protective. I really miss her. The best dog in the world if you ask me.

    We have a Presa and absolutely love him. He love the family and is people friendly when socialized. He is naturally suspicious of trainers, so the owner must always be in control of the dog. We love our presa!

    I grew up with large dogs. I live in a rural area and have a Presa Canario. I have spent time with professional dog handlers. This is very serious stuff. No "fun" stuff here. Presa Canarios are serious dogs, and I can not tell you how happy I am to here this guy talk, because he is talking the 100% real deal. Many dog owners have little or no knowledge of these dogs and this guy is the guy to listen to..Presa Canario. I can walk my dog without a leash and the dog will watch my body language to tell her what to do. I do not even have to say a word. She's 9 years old and still going strong. Pretty much everything he says I have done and it makes a huge difference... This is a serious dog for serious owners. Just keeping it real. 100%.

    Im just even more inspired to get a presa canario now I've been around all kinds of breeds as a kid and got familiar with dog behavior very young as well as dog training, I've never owned any aggressive style dogs but I've always been fascinated by pitbull's and other breeds of their nature and im very excited for the challenge that awaits me for when i finally do have one of these beasts. Loved the video very educational i learned a lot and I'm off to learn even more about this amazing breed, thank you seriously

    Thank you for the in depth info. I Google presa canario and every page had the same generic info. I just realize one of my dogs is presa or part presa. I say part because he's very narrow and only around 70-80 lb (it's difficult to way him, he's always too excited and it's been a while lol). He's a loving dog, loves snuggles, lots of playful energy and goofy as all get out! He was given away as a very young pup (7 weeks :/) and they said he was purebred pit bull... so they had no idea lol he is not a pure apbt at all! He was an absolute terror as a puppy! He's just lucky he's so freakin cute!

    You are Owesome, thank you for sharing this wonderful information with us.
    I fell in love with Presa Canarios because my brother Rafy had one that was giving to him his name was Scooby, he was the most beautiful and Owesome dog in the whole wide world, he always wanted to hug us, running after us and just be with us when we visit my brother, at the same time it was dangerous to be with him because he was massive and he wanted to jump on us, I'm not even five feet, so when he stood up to hug me most of the time I ended up with lots of scratches all over me, but I did not mine Scooby was a dog that I can't never forget because he was soo Special, He die soon after my brother Rafy died, I guess he couldn't cope after his father and best friend died, I think he was broken hearted he was was to sad.to continue living without the man he loved soo dearly, he was the son my brother never had, better companion to him that his wife and his daughters and Scooby used to helping with all the other animals my brother use to have.
    Yes I thank God for Scooby, he will be remember dearly in my heart Always. 💘💓💞🥰🙏🙏🙏🤩😘😘🤩💓🥰💗
